I was just contemplating if I wanted to check out yard sales this morning! Recently I bought 3 little pink glass saucers that the lady told me was depression glass. I have 1 side of our entertainment center where I put breakable, sentimental stuff. I also have a wire wrapped around it, so my son won't get in. It looks so lovely! Anyway, it reminded me of my grandma who had mostly green depression glass items. Also it seems like when I bring my son, we *always* have to buy a ball. So nothing exciting, but we are getting quite the collection. He's special needs and I think they sometimes take pity on me and we get them for free. The most recent crazy item was a guy that had a rubbermaid bin FULL of those lights that construction workers use. The ones that remind you of light sabers. We got one for free. I have red plastic storage containers in my living room (storing scrapbook items) and found a big red basket that I thought would be good for storing pages in progress. I also got a few smaller mason jars with plastic screw on lids. I thought they would be great for storing leftover soup. I also got a glass container. All of this was 2-3 dollars. I'll have to take a photo later today of the saucers. Maybe someone can tell me if they are depression glass. I think I spent 2 or 3 dollars, so no big loss if they are not. I did lots of googling, but couldn't seem to find that pattern.

My neighbor is having a yard sale. She asked me if I wanted to look at things the night before. Scored a snowblower for $30 and 4 gnomes for the garden for $2.

I got a pair of stilts, two pogo sticks, and three butterfly nets for $5.00. I think I'll let the grandkids use them and save my hip for another day.

Great posts so far. Smart plan casswithsass. No grown up wants to explain in the ER that they broke their wrist falling off a pogo stick.
I went to a few tag sales yesterday. Only one had anything that interested me. I bought several packages of new in the package, Darice brand snowflake ornament forms. Basically they are metal wires that are soldered in the center that you add beads to make them into snowflake ornaments. I've make some in the past so I knew they were worth getting. Two bars of never opened Lemon Verbena soap. And, a vintage apron.
Heading out to an auction with my husband tonight.

A replica "Prada" (read fake) purse for 10 bucks. I Googled it and think mine looks cooler than the actual Prada purse that it is copying. It originally went for a couple hundred. It's pink and very cute.

I found at goodwill 3 tommy Bahama silk shirts and a Tommy Bahama half zip sweater for DH for $30 total. I was beyond thrilled. He loves the brand but are just too pricy for us to buy brand new. Luanne

I went to an estate sale where she had 6 champaigne boopie glasses for $15. Wth. These glasses haven't sold for that in over ten years. I am thinking about going back and offering $5.
My neighbor had a sale. I bought 2 tables and 2 huge baking trays.

I worked for my friend's auction company today as the registrar/cashier. It was at a privately owned museum that the family had for 50+ years. There was the most eclectic collection of stuff -- a firetruck, a bank vault, an embalming table, lots of old medical and general store stuff, farm equipment, blacksmith tools, and so much more. Everyone was allowed to put together their own box lots of some of the small stuff. I got two box lots loaded with items I'll list in my Etsy shop.

Here's what I got at last nights auction (this auction has new as well as old, in addition to new grocery items and farm fresh food): 4 new Wiffle Ball bat and ball sets; a new long handled, BBQ scrapper; two new air mattresses for the pool (they had the original retail tags of 9.99 each and I spent 2.00 each); 15 packages of old stock, unopened packages of screws of various sizes for a home improvement project(for a whopping total of $2); fresh tomatoes, summer squash and corn; snack foods (things like granola bars that were 1.25 for two boxes - you can't beat that price). The protein bars were sold by the box and worked out to 25 cents per bar.
They didn't have anything really amazing for sale. The things I got were all great bargains and something we'll use this week or all summer long.

I went to some yard sales yesterday and bought 2 necklaces for $4.00 for my daughter. It happened to be at her old teacher's house who has been moved to another area of the school. The principal of the school was doing the sale with her as well. She thought it was cool she got something Mrs. H had made. I got it all for $4.00 and they let my son have a rattle toy. Very nice considering he tried desperately to steal their drinks. More importantly, we are going to work on having her failing math grade changed (LONG story, she has Autism, has an IEP, worked her a$$ off the last 2 weeks of school). Both were surprised at her grade! Hey, not exactly a find, but a huge relief, because she should have at least passed.

We haven't gone to a yard sale in a really long time but there was an estate sale right near our home so we went. We got there just after 4 and everything had just gone 1/2 off. I found 2 Pampered Chef stones that I don't have and they don't look like they have ever been used. The person selling things had a large Beanie Baby collection and my son picked out a few of those. They were like new too.

I stopped by a yard sale about 11:30 - it was closing at 12, looked around and saw some TOY STORY toys that were the little boy's. I got 3 containers of small pieces for $20. The little boy was about 7 and was talking about having $$ in his wallet so I pulled out a $20 and gave it to him. DGS almost 3 loves Toy Story. No they have backups for the small Buzz and Woody that he sleeps with every night.

I have been having so much fun at estate sales lately. Here's what I found * a plastic bag of some old baseball cards for $15. When I got home, my boyfriend and I sorted them all out. It turns out it is a complete set of 1953 baseball cards all in perfect condition! We decided to keep them. *an original movie script for John Wayne's "The Quiet Man". I'm not sure what to do with it, but it's really cool. *a few bucks for a box of doll stuff. When I looked through it later, it was a complete box of 1956 Tiny Tears doll accessories (the doll is missing). The bubble pipe alone sells for $40! *two 1920 French Boudoir dolls and a 1930 wedding veil with wax flower headpiece all for $8.
I keep saying I'm going to stop, but it's just so much fun!

We were looking for 1 more window air unit, since our central air is down. I found a practically brand new one, digital one (this model is still sold in stores) at a going out of business sale. The older gentleman was asking $35, which was very fair but I counteroffered $25. He didn't bite at first. He was tough! But eventually, when I reminded him I was his daughter, he agreed He knew my next step was to tell my mom and then I'd get it for free And I'll add if I'd asked for it he would have given it to me, too but if I was willing to pay he was willing to accept it. It really was a good deal.

I have been working really hard at decluttering my house, so I only buy things to sell on ebay. Last week at a sale, I found a long silk dress for fifty cents. Although wrinkled, it looked brand new. Also bought a softshell Columbia jacket. Sold the dress for $25 on ebay, and have the jacket listed now.

I went to an acquaintance's house Friday night for a game night. While we were playing she asked if I could wear large or extra large sweaters. Then she proceeded to give me enough clothing to fill the back seat of my car up to the top of the headrests.
I've been trying on clothes for hours and so far only 2 skirts and 1 pair of pants didn't fit. She is a retired executive assistant and the clothing is all very nice, higher end brands. I start a new job tomorrow and can't decide what to wear first. With a little mixing and matching I won't wear the same outfit for months!

You must live in a small town or near a rural area? SaveIt's about 50-60 minutes away by car. All of the neighboring towns have at least a few farms, nothing too large. The auctioneer jokes about the eggs. The chicken are free range because the farmer's fence broke and he's too lazy to fix it.

Went to a junk in the trunk vintage market event. I had to pay $10 to go in and had to take the kids so I chalked it up to walking around and listening to music. I didn't even bring a bag to carry anything. I was just looking at the perimeter of stores because I had a stroller and two kids. I glimpsed a perfect bell jar which I've been looking for to display a collectible. $35. I've only seen them for about $80 new. I talked to the lady about holding it until I could go to the car and get a bag, so I paid and she wrote dolls on it. 2 seconds later someone strolled up to look at the price tag so I'm glad I got it. I was kind of bummed I didn't get to go child free, but I guess my pocketbook is happier, dh joked that he sent me with the kids so I couldn't buy anything.

I'm a sucker for glass - art glass, regular glass, stained glass, pretty much ANY pretty glass. As usual at Goodwill last week they had a couple of carts of merchandise out - people usually go through the carts and take stuff and the employees joke that it saves them work because they don't have to put it on the shelves. I'm pretty laid back so I waited for the aggressive shoppers to finish and then I saw what looked like the top of a stained glass piece under a bunch of stuff. Usually the stained glass I find at Goodwill is damaged so I wasn't too excited, and worse yet, it was so heavy that I couldn't even lift it out. I had to call over my sweetie to do the heavy lifting and this is what he hoisted out for me: It was in perfect vintage condition (no broken glass or hardware) and best of all, was only $24!!! I can't believe no one bothered with it in the cart - we must have been stopped by 5 or 6 people oohing and aahing over it on the way to the cash register. The beveled and textured glass is just exquisite and the thing weighs a TON! I LOVE the thrift store!

I can't believe it wasn't damaged with all those people digging through the cart! Me neither! It was a miracle the way they go through those carts! But luckily it was pinned up against the side of the cart rather than at an angle so it survived unscathed. As for plans for it, I'm a little embarrassed to admit, we took out the fireplace temporarily, but I couldn't leave it behind.

We had a chance to stop at a Goodwill Sat and I found a big score for me - brand new pair of nice black sparkly sandals, size 2, for $4. It's rare to find shoes in my size, even more rare for them to look like adult shoes. LOL!
My son got a padded shooting shirt that sells new for around $45 for $2.99.

You have size 2 feet? And people always say I have small feet, size 6! my aunt had size 3 feet and had to have shoes specially made when she wore heels.

frazzled mom, my fireplace has the glass doors built into it so I have no need for a screen and I would have bought it too. It's beautiful. You'll find just the right place for it.

Four fiesta salad, or dessert(?), plates. One each in pale yellow, turquoise, green and navy for 99 cents each.at Salvation Army, I don't get there often.
I don't collect fiesta but they were so cute in a stack I had to buy. I also bought a small teak cutting board on legs, it's more of a serving piece but I'll likely use it for real chopping. The small square is convenient on counter.
