Rush Limbaugh attacked her TWICE on her looks when she was 12 or 13 years old and although he isn't a Republican politician, he sure as fuck carries water for them.

The media TORTURED this child when Bill Clinton was in office. She was tortured by the republicans. Say what??? I did a little searching to see if I was remembering wrong, but it doesn't seem so. The press honored their request to leave Chelsea alone while Bill was in the White House. They did take photos because those were allowed by the Clintons. www.nytimes.com/2000/12/03/magazine/media-conspiracy-chelsea-under-wraps.html?pagewanted=allEven when she was over 27 and campaigning for her mom, she wouldn't answer questions, not even from a 9-year-old little girl! Why should she have to answer those questions? They had nothing to do with campaigning. Did a 9 year old girl actually think that question up, or was she put up to it by a parent or media, since the 9 year old obviously wasn't old enough to have lived through the Clinton presidency? I applaud Chelsea for being able to keep her mouth shut on the topic, as I'm not sure I could be lady like enough not to tell them to take a long walk off a short pier.

The little 9-year old asked her one question. It seemed like an innocuous one to me, but I guess it's now a big right wing conspiracy? Geeze, anything is red meat to some of you.
I'm still trying to remember how it was she was "tortured" when Bill Clinton was in the White House.

Chelsea Clinton:
-Saturday Night Live: Her appearance was made fun of in a skit - by Mike Meyers, I think. Hillary Clinton complained; apologies were made. It was a pretty big deal at the time.
-Rush Limbaugh, on his TV show, talked about the White House cat while a photo of the cat filled the screen, and then mentioned the White House dog, followed by a photo of Chelsea. He got a lot of flack, blamed it on a staffer who mistakenly put up Chelsea's photo instead of the dog's photo, and apologized. The mistake part was suspect, as it was a taped show they could have edited. Also, the "bit" would have made no sense with just a photo of the dog. (Rush wouldn't have been showing photos of the First Animals for no reason.)
I think Chelsea was maybe 13 at the time.
Also, this was before the internet became what it is now. Very different cultural norms.

Sorry...excuse me...I meant to say "those types of questions". Still...tell me how a 9 year old even knew about Clinton's indiscretion(s). Obviously, not an appropriate topic to be even discussing with a 9 year old.

From her website: As president, Hillary will: Expand background checks to more gun sales—including by closing the gun show and internet sales loopholes—and strengthen the background check system by getting rid of the so-called “Charleston Loophole.” Take on the gun lobby by removing the industry’s sweeping legal protection for illegal and irresponsible actions (which makes it almost impossible for people to hold them accountable), and revoking licenses from dealers who break the law. Keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, other violent criminals, and the severely mentally ill by supporting laws that stop domestic abusers from buying and owning guns, making it a federal crime for someone to intentionally buy a gun for a person prohibited from owning one, and closing the loopholes that allow people suffering from severe mental illness to purchase and own guns. She will also support work to keep military-style weapons off our streets. If she becomes President gun manufacturers will be held responsible for when one of their guns is used in a crime or an accidental death? I don't see anything that Says that manufacturers would be responsible for how people use their guns?

I wasn't watching either SNL or Rush Limbaugh at the time so I guessed I missed it all. I didn't watch those shows, either, but both incidents got a lot of coverage and sparked a larger discussion about First Children and media/entertainment. A few years later, Senator McCain's joke about Chelsea's "ugliness" to donors received spotty coverage because the mainstream media considered the joke too inappropriate to repeat. I didn't remember the details about the nine year-old girl reporter, so I just googled. Interestingly, my first hit, the Daily Intelligencer from NY Magazine had this to say in 2007: Interesting that they chose to hammer in how well they remembered Chelsea as an adolescent, even 15ish years later. Snide implications, I thought. Also interesting that when Chelsea turned down the girl, she made a point to tell her, "You sure are cute, though." Or maybe I'm reading more into her intentions than I should.

Why should she have to answer those questions? They had nothing to do with campaigning. Back to your original comments...you did not say the question was "would your father make a good first man?" Going from the rest of this thread talking about Bill's behavior, one would assume (and I know what they say about assuming) that the question to Chelsea was about her father's behavior. If you had said that in the original post above, our back and forth would not have occurred. And, with that, I'm done as I have way too much to do.

I was an adult and had kids a little younger than Chelsea at the time. I remember perfectly well how unkind Republican pundits, politicians, the media, half the world, it seemed like, were to her. If you were a sentient being and occasionally read a paper or watched the news, you couldn't miss it. Unless you didn't want to know.
What that poor girl had to put up with in '90s. SMDH
ETA I used to be a Republican. The Republicans drove me away with their treatment of the Clintons, all the Clintons. I've never looked back.

Teaching in urban public schools turned me into a liberal.

If you were a sentient being and occasionally read a paper or watched the news, you couldn't miss it. Unless you didn't want to know. Well, that explains it, I'm not a sentient being. Actually, there was a very long period, over two years, where I was working more than full time and taking college classes at night. I had a little tiny TV that I almost never watched. I was too busy working and studying.

You didn't notice it, you weren't aware of it, so obviously it didn't happen. I have not forgotten that you insisted we were imagining it (or perhaps making it up) that many red state legislatures were setting up deliberate roadblocks to legal abortion, because you'd never heard of it. It was very much true, and the Supreme Court just this month gutted the Texas law. Thank God.

[CONTINUING TANGENT CAUSE YOU SPARKED A MEMORY] You know, I agree that these roadblock laws are purposeful and numerous, so of course it's startling when someone denies the trend. But I had such an odd experience listening to radio interviews with the crowd the day of the SC Texas decision: Not one Texas law supporter mentioned abortion or EVEN ABORTION CLINICS. The script had a decided feminist quality to it: earnest female Millennials relating how heartbroken they were because a law to safeguard women's health had been struck down. If you were listening after living in a cave for ten years, you could be mighty misled about the issue - until you heard the pro-choicers talk about women's health in the context of right and access to abortion, of course. But for someone living above ground, it was surreal to hear people ignoring the content of the law.

Well then the democrats must have driven you away with their treatment of the Palins. You know, David Letterman making "jokes" about Sarah's 14-year old daughter being raped by Eliot Spitzer. And Sarah Palin looking "slutty." Haha! A laugh a minute, eh? And then he had a segment on his show in which he goes over the jokes again because they are just sooooo funny, and says "well, maybe they weren't the best jokes" getting yet another laugh out of it. That is the definition of despicable. Or how about when Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a "bimbo" and the "c" word. That must have driven you away, right? Oh, waiiit, no, that was all okay, because not only was it republican's, it was the Palins. So no worries! Carry on.

Bill Maher is so beyond the pale, he has to be on not just cable TV, but behind a pay wall, because no network can tolerate what he says. Republicans, on the other hand, revel in their beyond-the-pale moments. They gleefully mock little girls and First Ladies, and never apologize. They create Constitutional crises (impeachment) and brag about it. Carry on. ETA and once again, I would ask that you source your quotations.

OH man, Chelsea Clinton is a little bit younger than I am and I DEFINITELY remember thinking that I'm so glad that I didn't have to go through my awkward teen years in the spotlight like she did. I remember people being brutal and making comments and "jokes" at her expense quite a bit.
It's because of Chelsea Clinton that I realized being 'famous' is not all it's cracked up to be.
