I'm starting a new job on Tuesday. I need to have MMR vaccine record. I found my record and I had the MMR2 vaccine in 1997. Am I still covered by that or do I need a booster? I tried reading information statement at the CDC. I think it's good but what say you. Thanks, I really hate needles/shots

If you are going to be working in healthcare, a second dose is recommended. Other than that you should be okay, but I would double check with my place of employment to be sure.

Your place of employment may require a titer to be sure. They'll draw some blood and do tests to determine how much antibody you have, which will tell them if you need a booster.

I would double check with your employer. Your record may be enough, but as said above, if you're in healthcare the rules might be different.

Just commiserating with you. I really really hate needles too. 3 of my births were drug free because of my fear of needles! Good luck!

I had my last one in 1997 too, and when I started working in a hospital two years ago, they did my titres and I needed a booster. I needed to get a Hepatitis booster as well.

Your place of employment may require a titer to be sure. They'll draw some blood and do tests to determine how much antibody you have, which will tell them if you need a booster. Question, because I'm curious. If the last shot was nearly 20 years ago, wouldn't it just make more sense to give the booster and be done with it, especially for someone who hates needles? Otherwise, you might have to draw blood AND give the vaccine?

From what I've been reading, as long as you got 2 doses, you're good. It doesn't matter when you got it, with the small exception of people in the 60s who received killed live virus that ended up being ineffective.

I had 2 doses as a kid and 20 years later my titers showed I need a boost. 3 boosts later I still don't titer out. Just get the MMR and be done. Measles is making a come back!

I can't keep my rubella immunity high enough. I had a booster three years ago and just had my titers run for this pregnancy and I'm low again. Has that happened to anyone else?

You can have a titer drawn to see if you still have immunity, but I would just go ahead and get another MMR vaccine.
