I just realized I did not get the transparencies. I thought everyone who preordered were getting them.

I have a first world DD problem and I'm hoping y'all can help me out. This is my first year doing DD. I bought the Pam Garrison and Decor8 mini kits, thinking the colors would coordinate. They do but the styles are quite different so now I having a hard time imagining them side by side in an album. Then I came across the Stitch in time blog and I LOVE what she's done with vintage ephemera. So now I'm stalking etsy and ebay for vintage feel stuff (and wishing I knew I wanted to go this direction when the OA sale was going on). Would this kind of stuff work with the Pam Garrison kit or would I be better to a)stick to the original plan or b)add the FYC kit to the Pam kit (both hand drawn style) instead. Seriously, a first world problem if ever there was one but I've had a crappy week and looking at DD on Pinterest has been my escape. I should add too that I have a very small stash of Christmas stuff, so not much help there.

I just realized I did not get the transparencies. I thought everyone who preordered were getting them. They were for customers who preordered the main kit "while quantities last." If that's you, then I'd start a convo with AE's customer service to see if maybe they have more. SaveSave

I guess the thinning DD kits was inevitable given the path both SC kits and AE's Story Kits have taken during 2016. It is disappointing when you figure, pulling from your stash to do monthly pages is one thing. But, if you're selling a kit as a kit for a project (like the DD main kits), there should be enough product to properly fill the 30 page protectors that comes with the album. I'm a little on edge after watching some of the story kit videos where Ali is pulling products from her older kits to complete layouts. I really feel that for those, it should be JUST what comes in the kit. If you have to look elsewhere, maybe you should've put more in in the first place. Sorry for the off topic rant. Just needed to vent and no one in this house understands. Or cares. LOL I'm actually not bothered by the pulling from stash for the story kits. At first I thought I was, but then I thought about it, and those kits were never marketed like SC or DD kits where you are supposed to use the kit exclusively for a few layouts/project life spreads. She has repeatedly emphasized they are to help you tell stories on certain topics, but she tends to fill the kits with items that are central to the story or the layout (like the journal prompt cards) and expects you to pull stuff like patterned paper from your stash. When people ask on message boards if her kits are good for a SC documenter kit replacement, she has reiterated they aren't intended to be your exclusive product, but instead to help you focus on certain stories as a supplement to other products.
I kinda like that the kits aren't filled with a bunch of tiny generic embellishments because almost all of the products are actually focused on the story theme, so it's different from the rest of the stuff in my stash (although, they aren't all too different month to month which is a different issue). When she pulls in stuff from her stash, she tends to gravitate towards items from previous story kits (like the word phrase stickers, they seriously look better when you mix and match multiple sets and you can't expect to get multiple sets per kit) and I think it makes her layouts more "realistic"--like something I would actually make, since I am not bound to using just the items in the kit.
I agree there isn't a ton of product for the price, but I think that's because she values the class content pretty highly, and I don't think the kits have thinned over time... although there have been some that are thinner than others, I think it fluctuates over time rather than a continuous downward spiral. She also used to do 4-5 layouts per class in the very beginning, then started doing 3 layouts for--I think--3 months in a row and I commented that I thought this was light and missed the additional spreads, and she responded thanks for the feedback and she would fix this and ever since there have always been at least 4 projects, so I feel like she's really good at responding to feedback which goes a long way.
I personally think it's worth the price, but I really enjoy the class portion and have a lot of other stash to pull from (embarrassingly, I almost always have the other items she pulls in), so to me it makes sense. I'd rather have her complete 4 projects for inspiration and pull from her stash, than do 3 without pulling from her stash (except for paper), because sometimes some of the pages don't speak to me. Also, if you were scraplifting her, often the pieces she pulls from her stash are unnecessary to the layout or could easily be replaced with something else (typically very generic pieces).
I totally understand where you are coming from though, so maybe it would be beneficial if she made 1-2 of the pages "exclusively" with the kit, and the other 2+ adding in other items (which is probably what most of us do when using the kit anyways, so still helpful for inspiration)?

My apologies if this is a dumb question. I did DD for a few years in a row, but haven't done it since maybe 2010 so I'm waaaay out of the loop. Is there a class or prompts or something that we follow for it? Do we just do our own thing every day? I honestly can't remember.
Thanks for any info!

Couldn't agree more. These kits may not be for everyone, but they certainly work for me.

There are tons of people doing their own version, but you can always follow Ali's blog where she has her foundation pages, etc. She also has a class, but that's up to you!
