I would like to start collecting some of my favorite movies to watch at my leisure.
I did a little bit of research but wanted some different takes on this.
If you were starting a similar collection from scratch, what medium would you use?
DVD's or digital format?
I have a new nice DVD player. I have Apple products. Macbook Air with no disc drive. iPad. iPhone. I also have an Apple TV but it's become fairly dated.
I have no particular interest in watching these movies on any of my devices...just my TV.
I'm on a tight budget so money DOES matter. I know the digital formats are more expensive.
I guess my concern is that I will collect a bunch of DVD's and they will soon become obsolete.
What would you do?
TIA so much!!

I still buy movies in DVD form. It is much cheaper for us. You can find great deals at thrift stores and some libraries sell them.
Walmart always has a $3 and $5 bin, with very recent movies them.
Black Friday sales are great to buy tv series!

I would go with DVDs if you really want to collect them (especially if you're not going the blu-ray route), for the same reason I still buy CDs of my very favorite music-- I don't have to mess around with digital rights management. Regular DVDs are really pretty cheap these days, and I've never had an actual disc go bad, unlike the occasionally corrupted digital file.

I buy Blu-rays, but still have a lot of DVDs. I have an app that I use to track them, both to keep track of what I have and to decide what to watch. Since we have so many, I took them out of the cases and use discsox, there are also binders or paper sleeves that people use as well, but not a necessity.

Thanks for your thoughts! I just don't want to put myself way behind the times right off the bat, but it does seem like DVS's are going to be here to stay for a while.
So many other aspects of technology change so fast these days.
Thanks again!

I have so much trouble with wifi and my electronic gear in general , I think I will be sticking with DVDs for a very long time. I don't keep the boxes, just keep them in folders made for CDs with an index at the front.
