…a question for you. Is there any fire used as a special effect in the show?
The touring performance is coming to our town and my DD (7) very much wants to see it, but she is going through a phase right now where she has a strong fire phobia. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who's seen the show if there are any pyrotechnics involved in the production? Thanks so much!

Crap, I just saw it in June. Trying to remember. I know when the witch is killed there are some strobing lights. I would get on the website and email them. I would hate to tell you no and then be wrong. Such a great show.

I've seen it a couple of times, but cannot recall any pyrotechnics. Which is not to say that there aren't any. Why don't you call the theater? Wouldn't a license be required for something like that?

Yes, there are pyrotechnics. Not many, but they can be intense.

There are some, but they are on the smaller side. Not a large fire and not the whole stage being on fire.

I seem to remember them being more fireworks than fire. But there is a bit and it noisy when they go off.

I saw it in May and for the life of me I can't remember seeing anything like that. Loud noises and flashing lights, yes. Maybe it depends on the venue and city ordinances or something.

I've seen it live 3 times and cannot answer your question! I just remember how much I loved it. Sorry, wish I could help!

You'll see fog/haze covering the entire stage at times with all kinds of colored lights projected through it. The only fire I can recall is the witch-hunters' torches and that's pretty contained in their torches (it's fake anyway).
There are a lot of loud noises, pops, and explosion-explosion type effects with accompanying light effects.

I've seen it twice and I don't remember any actual fire. But at the end of the 1st act it does get loud with lots of smoke and lights and some pyrotechnics.

I'm sure you are right. There are some venues in which it would be totally impossible and would be a huge risk. Something's it is the venues' own rules and sometimes it is the fire marshal. I would call the theater.

I have seen it 4 times in 2 different cities and I don't recall any fire. Lots of bright lights but no fire.

I'm sorry your DD is dealing with this. The fire in old Wizard if Oz movie used to terrify me! But I don't remember anything other than smoke in the musical. I've only seen a broadway touring production.

I saw it in London and don't remember any fire. But there was definitely effect that seemed like fire. Would she only be bothered by the real thing, or by effects that just seemed like fire?
I know for the London performance, the recommended age to see the show was 10. As fun as it may be to take her, she may not be ready just yet.

I saw it in SLC, and there was definitely fire. They actually had warning signs in the lobby so people were prepared that it would happen. I was grateful for the signs because I had my very anxious 10 year old with me. I was glad I could talk through it with her before it happened. It was brief, but quite intense.

Thanks for all your feedback. Maybe I will call the venue and ask, though if it's a touring production that doesn't start here til December, I'm not sure if they'll even know? She should be ok with smoke/fireworks/fake fire, but a real flame might spook her. Thank you all, this is helpful to know!

The recommended age here is 8 and they'll admit 4 and up. She'll be a couple months shy of her 8th birthday. I think I need to have a real heart to heart with her. Maybe I can find some Youtube clips to show her what to expect?

There is definitely fire and pyrotechnics. At least in Los Angeles. My daughter is 9, and I will be taking her this year. She also doesn't like pyrotechnics, but I'll have to talk her through it beforehand.

They might not have even considered beyond that yet.

I've seen it live 3 times and cannot answer your question! I just remember how much I loved it. Sorry, wish I could help! This is me, exactly! Funny how fire or the lack thereof just didn't register with me at all. That said, I LOVE Wicked, it's a great story and the songs are fantastic.
