As much as I try to stay away from the political threads, because I am a conservative and these threads to annoy the everloving beJesus out of me, I am somehow masochistically compelled to read most of them. And I have developed a working theory that HRC is actually a member of our board and posts frequently. Okay, I am just being silly because I am at work and it's either distract myself with NSBR or go jump off the roof. Yes, I'm having one of those days. I hope your day is going better!

No offense, but I am going to say NO WAY. My guess is that she is too driven and way too busy for scrapbooking. Would be interesting to know what her hobbies are, if she has any.... My guess is that her "hobby" is politics and her career and that all her extra time goes to Chelsea and now her grandbaby(ies)...

I think her scrapbooks would look more like ransom notes cut from magazines. She has to have some outlet for all the rage that must boil under due to all the garbage she's had to put up with for decades.

I thought her hobbies were, tracking down and ruining Bill's mistress's, e-mailing and drinking.

So you admire her for her thinly-veiled contempt for women who have chosen to be stay-at-home moms?

So you admire her for her thinly-veiled contempt for women who have chosen to be stay-at-home moms? Uh...I really don't think I said that. Some women are not happy being a stay-at-home parent. I have no problem with another woman being honest about that.

So you admire her for her thinly-veiled contempt for women who have chosen to be stay-at-home moms? I think any deeper meaning in that answer is largely dependent on the question she was answering and the tone in which it was asked. of course, that clip didn't show those things, so we're left partially in the dark. But if someone was not-so-subtly putting her down for having a career, then I can fully understand her answering back with a bit of a bite as well. Save

No, but Chelsea might be. Maybe Mrs. Clinton has a staff historian who does this stuff for her because she probably has at least two or three more books to write.

So you admire her for her thinly-veiled contempt for women who have chosen to be stay-at-home moms? "I chose to fulfill my profession" is not contempt veiled or otherwise for people who made a different choice. She's been criticized for her career ambition for as long as I can remember.

No. No, I do not...and this is one of the things I do actually admire her for. Actually I despised her for saying that. I was a 30 year old single woman, never married and with intense career at the time. It was rude and disingenuous. She could have made some remark about compromises and /or representing the struggle many woman face between motherhood and career. She didn't have to put down those making other choices. The wife of her husband's opposition was childless with a distinguished career. She didn't try to paint herself as better or different, it was her life.

She was talking about HER choice for HER life. Don't extrapolate. I have great respect for those who choose to stay home with their children. That was never the right choice for me. The beauty is we have the right to make those choices for ourselves.

While I've never failed to criticize Hillary Clinton when I felt it was warranted, I've always felt like she got a bad rap for the cookie comment. There was even a mention of it in a piece I was reading a few months ago. One of the campaign managers mentioned that they did a really horrific job in preparing her for the media spotlight. They were very focused on keeping Bill's wandering eye from becoming a story and in general she was perceived to be such an asset to the campaign (smart accomplished woman) that they totally underestimated how many segments of the population would see her. I think she'd dealt with quite a bit of criticism over the years about her role and her decision to proceed with her own career and she had a very defensive tone about her choices. It came off horribly. I'll see if I can find the article, it was pretty interesting. ETA - they actually said they were focused on packaging him (not exactly the wandering eye, but that's how I remembered it as it was also talking about Gennifer Flowers). They were discussing how the first image people saw was the 60 Minutes interview of "standing by her man" and then the cookie comment. www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/09/hillary-clinton-2016-60-minutes-1992-214275

she has enough people chronicling her life as it is. she probably thinks SBing is the biggest waste of her mind and abilities.

if she did have scrapbooks, I'd love to look at them- I'm thinking of 'old-school' scrapbooks from the late 1800s, early-to-mid1900s, where people saved and pasted in dance programs, movie tickets, party invitations, that sort of thing.
I would imagine that the paper ephemera from a life in politics would probably be really interesting! White House Christmas cards sent and received, state dinner menus, plane tickets from traveling to all sorts of countries, pressed leaves from stays at Camp David, swatches of fabric from dresses, wallpaper snippets, post-it notes with interesting to-do lists, etc.

Her husband's opposition in 1992 was George HW Bush, so his wife wasn't childless. During the primary, he ran against Jerry Brown, who I believe was a bachelor. I always remembered the comment as being in response to people judging her for wanting to keep her maiden name and a career. She was basically responding that she wasn't going to fit the mold of the typical political wife at the time.

So you admire her for her thinly-veiled contempt for women who have chosen to be stay-at-home moms? She said something awkward 24 years ago that she promptly apologized for and produced her own cookie recipe, but you're willing to give Trump a pass on all his current BS?

I don't know if any presidents have ever been scrappers, but I do know Jackie Kennedy made at least one scrapbook.
Jackie's mom and stepfather sent Jackie and her sister off to Paris for the summer when they were in college. As a thank you, Jackie and her sister made a scrapbook of the trip for their parents. Jackie's sister did the journaling and Jackie added some beautiful illustrations.
Life magazine featured the scrapbook in an issue years' ago. It was very clever and I'm sure the parents treasured it.
