Some of my labs came back and one shows a Vitamin D deficiency.
This is what my lab shows: Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy 19.5 ng/mL [L] 30.0-100.0
I've been feeling very fatigued and it looks like this could be playing a role in that. What is the best supplement you've taken to help bring that level up? I already take two Centrum Multivitamins a day that equals 800 IU of vitamin D, which obviously isn't enough since my lab came back poorly. Now that time has changed, I literally see almost no day light which I'm afraid will just make my number even worse.
I'm sure my diet plays a role in this as I'm not much of a vegetable or diary eater. I had gastric bypass surgery 6 years ago and still only consume a very small amount of food compared to a normal diet. I'm also sensitive to several foods because of this, dairy being one.
Thanks for your help!

Vitamin D must be taken with some sort of fat-try a liquid supplement that contains some type of oil, or take yours with fish oil. D3 is the preferred type

I prefer Vitamin Code, I just think it's a higher quality vitamin.

My doctor had me on 4000 IU of D2 (needed an RX for this) once a week for 8 weeks, then a daily over the counter 1000 IU of D3. I get Nature Made brand at the supermarket.

My levels came back at 7 so my doctor had me take 1,000 IU of vitamin D once a day. I went back 6 months later and my level had come up to 25. He changed my vitamin D amount to 2,000 every other day and the 1,000 the other days. I go back in a few more months to have it checked again. I take D3 1,000IU chocolate flavored chews.i get them at CVS(their brand). I buy them when on sale buy one, get one. I take them after a meal.

It's low but it's not in the deficient range. Sunlight, egg (yolk), fatty fish. That's what I'd do rather than supplementation, but I have slightly higher than normal D levels.

I take 2 D3 per day, once in the am, once in the pm. That keeps me in the lower range of normal

My daughter tested at 14 and normal is at 30 so doctor prescribed vitamin D at 25,000 units twice a week for three months, then retested.

I like Naturemade or Trader Joes. A Vit-D supplement with calcium too ( or taken together with calcium ) is how Vit-D absorbs.

Mine were at 4 something, so the dr put me on the once a week pill with something like 50,000 units for 3 months. The test after that showed I had gone up to 24, so now I take 2 1000mcg gels a day.
DH was diagnosed in 2014 with a low in the 9's and he was just told to take 5000mcg /day. When he was first diagnosed, he could hardly move he was so exhausted. Of course, he had other things than just a VitD deficiency going on. Still, I was surprised when mine came back so low and I was still moving fairly well. The big dose was wonderful, though. I had more energy and my hair and nails started growing like crazy.
I remember reading recently that they have established a link between low VitD and some heart problems. I know our dr keeps a close eye on our levels. He says 20 is the lowest it should go before you start taking a supplement; he recommends you maintain a minimum of 30. Neither DH nor I have exceeded 24 so far, so I guess we'll be on this supplement for a while yet.

You could try cod liver oil . (It's the most disgusting thing I know. "revolting" doesn't even start to describe it, but it is very high in vitamin D). I'm currently on "Divisun 800 IE" because my levels were so low that I needed a RX. My levels are slowly coming back to normal, but I will probably need these for the rest of the winter. Which is okay, as long as I don't have to drink "tran" <--- cod liver oil.

I think you should speak with your doctor before beginning any supplement - with a reading that low, your doctor is likely to prescribe you Vitamin D (probably 50,000 IU once a week)

I think you should speak with your doctor before beginning any supplement You can see the wide range of values people are taking here. I take 1000 IU a day. I also get mine from CVS during BOGO-- they're softgels and they're nice and small. You mention fatigue-- how's your iron?

My one and only vit. D level was 16, about six weeks ago. In an odd situation, doc did not give me any recommendations so I took the advice of a very knowledgeable longterm manager of the supplement department at a health foods store. She suggested that I take 5,000 IU once a day along with vit. K2. Mine is 180mcg per capsule. I was told that if taking D alone, it would cause my vitamin K level to drop. keithurbanlovinpea - it sounds like you got similar advice. If normal range is 30-100 ng/ml then 19 is definitely deficient. I was told that even when results are 30-50 or 60, supplementation is recommended. For what it's worth, I have waaaay fewer headaches and much more energy since beginning this regimen. I am not a doctor and am not recommending it to anyone, just sharing what works for me. good luck!
