Give this year?
Last year I ordered my dh a pair of xxl gloves. He is 6'6" and so gloves generally not big enough for him (and he is prone to cold extremities because of his height) but he makes due. I decided to see if I could find him some GOOD gloves that fit. I spent like $75 on a pair of winter gloves but he was a total dork in his level of excitement over them lol. He even said that it was silly that he was so excited over something so "boring."
Several years back I gave a friend a membership to a beer of the month club. 3 different microbrews each month. He said it was the best gift ever lol.
This year, I had a pillow made from a photo of my niece's dog for her to have at college. (I was sympathetic to her missing her dog because mine was the only thing I got homesick for when I was in school.) Because it is a small dog, the pillow will be close to life size. Etsy can be so cool.
My ds is into pinball right now, and wants to learn to fix them as well as play. I actually found a book on maintaining and repairing pinball machines. Also suggested to his uncles that they might consider getting him some of the tools necessary, as ds is notoriously hard to buy for. (They both fix machines themselves.) I'm fairly proud of that find.

Ds11 is getting a telescope and binoculars. He will be thrilled. He won't be so thrilled that I'm not getting him more legos.
DS18 is getting a once in a lifetime WOW gift of Hamilton tix on Broadway, with the added pleasure of my company and making me listen to the soundtrack so I know what's going on. It was his "what I would love and know I'm never getting because it's so expensive" wish for his birthday.

My husband spied a painting that he really liked in a gallery and tried to convince me that we needed it. I told him no at the time. I bought it for Christmas for him. I'm also getting him an ice auger for ice fishing.

My 3 oldest daughters....from the other thread....I'm excited to give it all. Maybe because its being handmade and im doing it while being in a joyfull mood.....I'm making photo books, iPhone charger holder, jewelry bowls, bracket holder, monogrammed beach bags, wire bracelet(they keep taking mine) Fingerless gloves, hand warmers and boot socks from old sweaters, etched cuting boards, several necklaces & braclets.
For my youngest the laptop, tripod and special effects makeup. She has gotten really good and wants to start making videos. More knitting lessons, love that. But my favorite will be the framed hand drawn star map for her ceiling.
For hubby the wood watch, the handmade key chain and the quote we will be attaching to the back of his badge It has a special meaning to us and we say it often to each other.
I love giving to those I love.

I bought my dad a book written by the daughter of conservationist Aldo Leopold about their family home called Sand County Revisited. He'd asked for Leopold's A Sand County Almanac a few years ago, so I know it's an interest of his. I think he will like it. I spotted it this summer and picked it up then. I am excited to give it to him because I usually just have his wish list to shop from-- I don't often have something to surprise him with. (But he did say he was going to call with a few more books he wanted and dammit, this better not be one of them. LOL.)

I bought a book for my sister that was authored by her favorite teacher from middle school. She had no idea it existed. And last year I gave BIL a DVD of Corvette Summer. He was an extra in that movie (and it's kind of his family joke because he is Mexican and was cast as a car wash worker). It was just released in DVD and he hadn't seen it in years and his daughter never had.

We're getting smart TVs for the boys. We'll see how that goes.
DH wears ties to work once a week or so. He said if his two tie clips, one is too short and boring and the other is boring plus the finish is wearing off. I browsed a bit on etsy and found a tie clip made from repurposed whiskey barrel wood. I think he'll like that.

I searched high and low, day and night and finally obtained the unobtainable Power Ranger toy. My then 8 yo son jumped and screamed. We still imitate him to this day almost 20 years later.
for my other son, I bought him a turntable and then spent weeks collecting classic rock and roll albums for him. He was totally shocked when he opened the turntable, but his eyes lit up when he opened this huge box of albums.
I would give anything to give that special present to both of them all over again but it gets more difficult as the years go by.

I gave my dh a mandolin a few years ago. He always spoils me and it was so fun to be the spoiler for once. He loved it. It's so nice to see him get to play it at gigs. Someday I'll get him an electric/acoustic upgrade.

Every year hubby and I set a limit - well I completely exceeded that last year as I had been socking $$ away from my PT job. He has issues with his hands from a work comp injury and a normal auger is too much for him to use. They have an electric one that is $$$ that I bought along with all the required items for it. I also pretty much wiped out his list of Ryobi tools that he wanted. I was sneaky though. He opened all the tools on Christmas Eve and thought that was it. Well I had the auger in my trunk, that had been at my mom's hiding from him, and I got up Christmas morning and filled his stocking with the small auger items. The look on his face when he started to open them was just priceless. he was like a kid in a candy store when I told him where the auger was.
2nd greatest gift I ever gave was the year I was a sr in HS. I had cross stitched a sampler for my Grandma with all the grandkids names/DOB on it and framed it. I made sure that was the last gift of the day that was opened. She didn't even get the paper off and she was already in tears. She passed the following November and I made sure that item came back to me

Just the two of us so the last few years it has been the "big" presents for D/H. Two years ago it was a coveted antique rifle and last year it was a 70" 4K tv. He had absolutely no clue each time and was so surprised. Due to their sizes both presented unique challenges, hiding, wrapping and all but it worked out well.
This year will be a big surprise too, Sawovski Binoculars. He has been drooling over them for years, always saying "someday". Well "someday" will be December 25, 2016. I am going to wrap a big box filled with nothing but tons of wadded up paper. I will keep encouraging him look through all the paper because I know a gift is in that box. After a few minutes I will discover one small package he missed and that will contain the binoculars. Can't wait.

I wrote a Haiku for each of my Book Club members based on their personality traits I most admire. Everyone usually brings a thoughtful little token for each memeber at our Christmas dinner but I have never reciprocated and I was feeling badly about it so I wrote them poems. I really love my Book Club

My husband is super hard to shop for but he likes looking at old maps. Last year I found two very old and really beautiful maps from Europe, and had them professionally framed. He loved them and the bonus is they are pretty enough to hang in the living room where we can see them every day.

We got a trampoline for Xmas. It is already up and we are all smitten with it.
We (kids and I) are making an advent calendar for DH. It is a wine rack with 24 slots. We are going to put a variety of wine and other things in the slots. My youngest often complains that we don't give him nice gifts, so I am really excited about it.

We did this with nerf guns. It was awesome fun!! My best gift when I was little was a remote controlled car! I had asked for one, but was sure I would not get one because it was a "boy" toy.

This year I'm actually really excited to give one of my DD the Disney castle Lego set that came out in September. DH convinced me it was ok to spend that much $$ on it for her. I know she'll love it. We are adding Disney mini figures in her stocking.
The other one I'm really excited about is for DH because he's usually really hard. One of the gifts we got him this year is a Chicago Blackhawks garden gnome. It's awesome!
I'm hoping to be able to give my oldest some college gear. I'm hoping she hears back before then from her first choice school!

I asked him about tools and he recommended the following: Volt/ohm meter, deep well socket set, points adjusting tools, points files, screwdrivers, wire strippers and cutters. Most are available at Amazon or Walmart. www.pbr.com (pinball resource) has the points adjusters and other tools. He also recommended this site: www.pinwiki.com as a recommended site for him to look at as a starting point on learning to repair. Schematics can usually be found at www.ipdb.org. www.pinside.com is a good online discussion board. Just some ideas...Hope he enjoys the hobby.

Years ago I lived in fabulous Colorado and I made a beautiful chest - a huge chest - for my nieces. I filled it with boas and wedding dresses and lots of fun dress-ups and I got it in my tiny Civic (with much difficulty) and on the plane (pre-2001) and to Baltimore for them to open. They were just so happy with it. And so spankin' cute!
Last year I bought a David's Tea Advent Calendar and my kids and I wrote special notes to my MIL (their grandmom) of wonderful memories we have of her and filled all 24 slots with them. She lives in Switzerland and can't travel anymore so we only see her every other year. She NEVER cries and she cried when she thanked me for that.
And a couple years ago, after my mom passed away and we were all so sad, I gave my kids dog food and a leash and we got a second dog. We picked him up the next day.

I had a tshirt quilt made for my dd out of her favorite tshirts that I've been saving for several years. It turned out great and I think she'll love it. Project Repat? I had one made for niece and nephew this year (one for each) out of their mom's t-shirts. When she passed away 10 years ago, one of the things we packed away for her kids was a box of tshirts, from her schools, cancer relays, places she visited, etc. Somehow it ended up at my house with other things packed away for the time when her kids had their own spaces. When I was shipping their other heirlooms, etc, I asked if they truly wanted a box of tshirts, and they did not but felt bad about not wanting them. So I secretly had the quilts made and hope they love them. I liked them so much when they came back from Project Repat that I decided to get another one made for my brother and SIL. They are huge sports fans of all the New England teams, so I spent a solid month searching Goodwill, eBay, and other clearance racks for tshirts. (Not as easy in AZ as it would be in NE!) Got enough for a king sized quilt and just got it back and know they will love snuggling up in their sports den to watch all the games. I enjoy finding great gifts and often score kind of cool things at auction that I save for certain people and occasions. I've gotten a hockey puck signed by Mike Eruzione that I gave to a co-worker who loves the movie Miracle. I scored a very hard to find autographed book by Kurt Vonnegut that I gifted to a dear friend. Personal photo gifts and albums for a long list of people who appreciate that kind of thing. Indoor snowball fight package for desert kids that don't get to have snowball fights. A die cutting machine for my mom who is retired and getting back into genealogy and scrapbooking. (One that she does not have to crank.) A Bon Jovi signed drumhead for DD who loves Bon Jovi. I have lots and lots of favorite gifts and it is my favorite hobby ever-finding and gifting. I might need more friends, though, as my gift list is getting shorter and I don't need stuff for me.

I knew a pea had used the company with good results, that must have been you. Thank you for posting about the company, I doubt I would've found it on my own. You sound like an amazing gift giver, not just because you find thoughtful gifts, but with the love you put into it as well.

A gift I was most excited to give was a pair of medieval style shoes from Rothenburg Germany that I bought for my son's role play hobby. He wasn't as excited as I was but since then he has loved being able to wear them for renaissance faires and special events.
I got them on a trip to Germany and fund a shop full of medieval style items. I spent a good amount in there!

Since we got married almost 30 years ago, DH and I have always lived far from family. I have a huge family and we used to have a big Christmas party at my parent's home with all the siblings, spouses, and grandkids. One of the first years DH and I couldn't be there, I sent these: animal nosesI wrote a note on the outside of the box that said these were for adults only. Take one and pass the box on. They all loved it, got a huge chuckle out of it and sent me great pictures of all of them wearing the noses. Very silly, I know, but it was a way to connect with them all when I couldn't be there. We do get rather silly when we're all together.
