I used to enjoy Black Friday shopping years ago when the kids were small and it was about getting up early and going with my mom or military to score great deals on toys for the kids. Now it seems like Black Friday is all about people buying stuff for themselves.
Then it got earlier and earlier until now Black Friday starts sometime Wednesday evening. No fun. It's not about the "hunt" anymore, but about me, me, me.

We're out now. The kids wanted something from the mall so dh and I are sitting in the car shopping online. I'm not feeling with those fools and hobbling around on crutches. No thanks

Is anyone else opting outside tomorrow?
I can't even imagine stepping in a store (though I admit I'm not beyond online shopping) but I am definitely getting outside for a hike and enjoying a trail tomorrow

I haven't really done Black Friday shopping in actual stores (vs on-line) in 6-8 year now. But as I type this, I'm propped up in a bed in a hotel suite mere steps from one of the biggest malls in our area. My husband and I will get up (whenever we wake up) tomorrow, have breakfast, and then amble over to the mall to take part in the hoopla. We have no real agenda other than to meander around and do "fun" shopping. We may have a great time and stay all day... or we may be back in our suite by noon. Who knows? But I'm oddly looking forward to it!

I've done it since I was old enough to drive. The last few years when stores started opening at midnight instead of 5 or 6 has made it far less thrilling. Before it used to be adults. Now, people are just staying up since Thanksgiving morning and many are carting their kids with them. An infant or toddler in that chaos seems like there is a lot of potential for injury. I've been hit by plenty of carts in the store because I'm short and people can't see past the stuff in their cart. I've noticed a lot of people smelling like liquor as well.
I'll be heading out in about 1/2 hour with my oldest to get some things. Of course, every store seems like they have a different time to open so you can be going from one shopping mall to another and then back to the first one again.
It also doesn't feel like there is more than one or two things at each store each that we want. I'm looking forward to going to bed when we get back more than I am going out. I hope that I'm able to update that it was better than I expected. Fingers crossed that we get the few things that we want.

I have only ever gone Black Friday shopping once about 15 years ago. It was sort of a non-event. I kept thinking that surely the next store we went to would have some amazing deal on an item I wanted! But no, it was all very ho-hum. Then all the stores started doing crazy stuff Thanksgiving day and people were camping in line for days at a time. That didn't interest me so I never went again. I always enjoyed flipping through the sales ads though but even that has lost its excitement since it seems like all the stores just do the same sales on the same items year after year.

I am so relieved once Thanksgiving night and Black Friday are over. We live near an outlet mall and people tend to park on our street in front of our house and can't seem to remember that people are actually living in the houses they're parked in front of and are actually trying to sleep. I know they're happy and excited to be shopping and I don't want to take away their joy, but dang, so many of them are so loud! Slamming car doors, yelling, not to mention making sure the car doors are locked so we get to hear the beeping of the horns, too. Over and over and over and over. Not to mention that at every slight noise outside, my dog starts barking and my dh complains. Fun times. lol
Oh, and when we moved here, no one parked over here at all to go to the outlets because there was no outlet to walk to it. And then they expanded the shopping area and completely opened the parking lots. Yay.
I realize I sound like a scrooge and I should probably go away for Thanksgiving, but I'll just put up with it once more and hope my earplugs and white noise machine work really well tonight!

I hate crowds. I never enjoyed Black Friday shopping. My day consists of pajamas, crafting and watching movies. OMG! Heaven on earth.

Historically, I haven't been much of a Black Friday shopper. Partly because we are usually at my moms and the nearest place to shop is an hour away. Partly because I didn't have anything that was on a list that made it worth going anywhere. However, i have gotten quite a bit on Kohl's.com the last few years. And now that the kids have more expensive things on their list, there are some things that I would only buy at the BF price.
So far this year has been a bust. I was looking for the Beats solo 2 wireless in the target ad. They haven't been online (so far) and the website says they aren't available in our store. We were not done with Tday dinner by 6:00 when the store opened, and I am not going to go and deal with the crowds if the store doesn't have them (all day the website has said they aren't available in our store). I also wanted the Canon camera that was at Kohls but that wasn't online, either, even though it seems all the other doorbusters were. Argh.

I can't even imagine stepping in a store (though I admit I'm not beyond online shopping) but I am definitely getting outside for a hike and enjoying a trail tomorrow I will go to Fred Meyer for my year supply of socks tomorrow. All socks are 50% off and I get them every year for my family. After that I'll spend the day at a dog agility trial helping out. It's a three day trial so I'll be there at least two if the three days.

I've never been one to go early and brave the crowds. I sleep in, then go out to a few stores after the crowds are gone. Sometimes I'm early enough for Doorbusters at one or two. I know I'm going to miss out on the good stuff, but my list is usually pretty short. For the things I really need, I'll either buy online or pay more for it later.
I found things I wanted at Best Buy, Kohl's, JC Penney, Ulta, and Belk, so I'll make those rounds tomorrow when I decide I'm ready to get out of bed. Target didn't have a single thing in their ad this year that interested me, which was very disappointing.

I prefer shopping online. I try to avoid big box stores and locally owned businesses for many reasons. If something stands out, I might go to 1 store. My son and husband just left to buy us a vacuum. According to the website, it's still there, if not oh well.

Just got home from shopping and as much as I hate WM I have to say they were very well organized on the inside other than the stupid new rule of having to get big ticket items in a carpool lane outside. That was a freaking nightmare.
Kohls was a nightmare. 2hrs in line.
Target I got to late but they still have good leftovers from their event and I scored on a lot of things there.
I've been a BF shopper for many years and I enjoy it but I think I'm getting to the point where I need to do it online because I'm so worn out now and I have to get up early and cook for out Friendsgiving food.

I avoid BF shopping, no thank you.
I do go to the Mall of America with my adult daughter and another mother/daughter on Saturday. We've done it every year. It's really not crowded until late in the day. The MOA is so massive that the stores are generally not crowded, just the common areas.
I do 90% of my shopping online. DH is home to get the deliveries, so I don't have to worry about theft.

I haven't "done" Black Friday in years.....since the stores opened at 4/5am! My mom and aunts and cousin and I would go out. We'd shop then go to breakfast and be done by noon. We had so much fun. But now my mom is gone and everyone else is on the same page: there's no deal worth going out on Thanksgiving for.

I went with a friend last night to walk off some of that turkey. We had nothing really we HAD to get. I got my daughter a fiju instamax camera from Micheals, but didn't realize I couldn't use the coupon on a doorbuster. The same item/same sale was on Amazon. Oh well. It's easier to do returns in person, IMO, and sometimes Amazon has caveats on returns. I was up at 4am to pee (TMI sorry, LOL) and noticed the Best Buy sale had started, so I snagged 2 laptops for my kids from my mom (she's out of the country for THanksgiving, so I told her I would try). It was kind of nice not having the pressure of THAT GIFT to get, but it was a little boring too. My friend and I were out for about 3 hrs and were pooped. I can't imagine the stamina of the people who are out all night! LOL

I stopped once it started bleeding into Thanksgiving Day. And now Black Friday is a week long thing. I'll online shop here or there but I don't really participate like I used to. This is what I was wondering about. I've never been into BF, but it seems like corporate greed stores opening on TG Day would suck some of the fun out of it for BF shoppers. I need to get a few things, but I'm not shopping today and I'm going to do my shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshalls since those stores had the decency to stay closed on TG.

I've been shopping on Thanksgiving Day for as long as I can remember.
I remember going with my mom and grandma and even great-grandma when I was a kid.
I went to Target when they opened at 6 on Thursday. It was so much fun. Everyone was nice (customers and employees). All of the deals and lines were incredibly well organized. I got an Xbox One S with a controller and game for under $200. It's the lowest price I've ever seen and it wouldn't have been in our budget this year otherwise. Then kids' apparel was all 45% off so I loaded up on pjs, Minexraft hoodies, and Star Wars gear.
It was just really fun.
We watch the parade in the morning, eat in the afternoon, and shop in the evening. That's what thanksgiving day is and always has been to me.

I can get most deals starting that Monday so by Friday I'm usually done anyway and hold out for cyber Monday. I'll go to the mall later today and maybe a movie with dh just to get me in the spirit but today I'm staying home and dragging out the Christmas shit.

I was looking for a local LulaRoe consultant on facebook, and I found one, on my street, about 5 houses down. And - She is having an Open House today. So yeah, that's where I'll be shopping on Black Friday.

My DDs and I used to love to go BF shopping, but several years ago it lost its fun. I miss the experience we used to have, but the retailers ruined it by starting on Thanksgiving day. Now 95%? Of my shoppiing is done online.

I'm about to brave it for the first time in years. Ugh. I discovered the pants I'd planned on wearing to an event next week are too big (yay). I know which store so hopefully it won't be a big deal. Better to see if they have a special today.
I miss when it was fun, and something my mother and I did together. Same with day after sales too.

I went Black Friday shopping with my MIL and SIL one time, about 6-7 years ago. I watched two women get into a hair-pulling fist fight (literally) over something in the toy section in Target. It was a freaking zoo and something I never want to be a part of again. IMO, it's all smoke and mirrors. There are very very few really good deals.
My DH's cousin's family camps outside Best Buy for days every year so that they can be the first ones inside. I saw their FB posts this morning about the TV they got for $200. They have a warm shelter and they cook a mini Thanksgiving dinner in it every year. There kids (teens) camp with them and they just love it. I think they're crazy, but if that's how they choose to spend their family time and they enjoy it... More power to 'em!

Oldest and my DH stood in line overnight at Nebraska Furniture to get apple watches. They had a great time.

DH went out last night (I refuse to do Black Thursday or Friday). I hate crowds, lines, and none of the deals is anything anyone on my list would want.
At our closest Target DH said there were no lines and he found some cheap dvds and everything he had his eye on. At Kohls across the street he said it was packed with a line going all the way around the inside of the store, even though Target across the street had the same items (Playstations and X-boxes) that everyone seemed to be buying. Also the thing in the ad he was looking for was not available at that store (he asked) even though it was in the ad.
A few years ago, the night before Black Friday we went to Toys R Us looking for something that was going to be on sale the next day. The next morning it was nowhere to be found (employees probably bought all of them, the store had just opened), and there is usually a fight big enough for the police to show up every Black Friday at that store, so we do not shop there if we can help it.
