Dear JoAnn, Michael's, and Hobby Lobby,
Stop with your stupid store brands. I don't want knockoff scrapbook supplies. I want the real stuff! If these stores would carry more American Crafts, WRMK, and other actual brands, I'd shop in the stores. They don't even have to carry every part of every collection. I'd be happy to see the kits.
I don't even bother going in these 3 stores.

I would buy store brands if they were high quality, but they're not. Paper is thin and unsaturated, embellishments are plain, store-brand albums are lower quality. Those are not the supplies I want.

I agree! It really irritates me that the Tim Holtz section at Michael's has been gradually infiltrated with a similarly-packaged knockoff brand. I don't want that crap, I want the real thing. I boycott the store brands. (Except I do like Recollections cardstock for the Silhouette.)

Agree! The store brands are just sad poor quality imitations.

Agreed! I'm not even terribly concerned with using coupons or 40% off all the time, just have quality product.

I'll swim against the tide and say I enjoy the store brands...but never the paper; the paper is awful!

Me too, I don't want generic scrap supplies. Some of it is so cheap looking.

I'm not a fan of the store brands, either. I buy very little - if any of it anymore, and that's due to the low quality. I hope they're listening.

I completely agree. I hate their cheap looking, cheaply made products.

Same here. We don't have a HL, but we do have Ms and Js. I don't bother with the sad little Js in my town and only go to Ms for adhesive and paper trimmer blades. They have nothing else to offer. I thought their selection might be a little better at this time of year but there was nothing new.

I'll swim against the tide and say I enjoy the store brands...but never the paper; the paper is awful! I agree with you. Most of the paper is awful. I do like the Recollections Smooth paper. It is shimmery and is the perfect paper for my Silhouette. I like some of the stickers and the gems are always cheaper than the name brands. It is ridiculous that AC charges double for some of the embellishments that they do. I will pay extra for good thick paper (Carta Bella is perfect), but Prima flowers and other companies like that charge so much for tiny packages of embellishments. I can easily make 200-400 pages a year, so spending $20-25 on most layouts adds up quickly. I like that stores offer both types of embellishments and just skip the brands that I don't want. For me, Tuesday Morning is perfect. I can find name brand items at 1/3 the cost.

I agree, too! I have all 3 within a few miles of where I work and I get there once a month, at best. Usually only get adhesive when I do go.

I really can't find anything to use my coupon on there. I have enough adhesive to last 2 years now. I do like Hobby Lobby best of the 3 since they occasionally at least have name brand paper pads and thickers, collection packs sometimes also.

I'm an equal opportunity shopper. I do find stuff in the stores to buy. I like the plain recollections paper. They have both 65 and 110lb weight in white. I bought a very pretty Christmas paper pack. I can't wait to start making cards out of. I don't mind it being a little thinner than some of the name brand as it's going on 110 lbs paper. I do understand what your talking about. I do wish they would carry the name brand in the store like they do online. I don't shop much online b/c of shipping. When I get gift cards I'll spend them online.

I am equal opportunity shopper. I like Recollections cardstock for die cutting. I love a lot of Paper Studio embellishments. I try not to shop at the big box stores unless I need something and then I will browse and pick up the store brands.
Saturday I braved Hobby Lobby so I could get some things I needed. I found a Sizzix die set on clearance. I almost picked it up and then put it back. Came home and thought about it some more. Looked it up on Ebay and found it cheaper on Ebay.
I was thinking I need to start checking prices online before buying name brand items at the big box stores. I never did this before when the stores carried major lines. I used my coupons and went home. I am probably not the only shopper doing this. I would think the big stores would realize consumers are price comparing before venturing out shopping and the stores need to entice us more to shop at them. Michael's Recollections Washi tape is not enough to get me to travel clear across town to shop at their store. Carrying major scrap lines would get me to travel across town.

Not only do I dislike the store brands but I'd like to see some new product. JoAnn's has some paper that I literally scrapbooked over 10 years ago stocked on the shelf. Yawn.

I agree, there is less and less of anything I would want at these stores. I want the real deal and quality supplies, not cheap imitation knock-offs.

They have several colours with shimmery finish on one side and deep saturated colour on the back. Cuts like butter. I also like their store brand of washi tape. Besides those items and card bases, I don't often buy store brand SB supplies there. I like to pick up name brand tools there when I can get a decent coupon. And I have picked up Jolees stickers and some cool heavy cs diecut words and sentiments there too. We we are lucky to have access to LSS's so I can get my fix of name brand products there.

I wish there was a lss near me. There is one an hour away in a different state. I tried to find one that I went to many years ago and it wasn't there. I was going to support the local business Saturday but it didn't work out. I just bought over $200 online yesterday and today. Not to mention I've been to michaels 2 times the Black Friday days and also put in an order online joanns as well as eBay. Eckkks. I have to put the breaks on it. I'm full stream ahead. It's so easy to push buttons and put numbers in the in the carts. There is always more I want. I haven't been like this before. I need cheaper therapy. Lol.

Today I went to Michaels to get some doilies for the 50% off all paper crafts sale. I found more than I needed and proceeded to the check out. The people in front of me were waiting in line without any items. They just wanted to stop and say hello to the cashier (maybe two minutes). I waited and found it quite cute how surprised the cashier was that these two friends stopped by to see her. I mentioned it to the cashier and she was so grateful for me to be so understanding that she gave me another 25% off the doorbuster sale. Woot! 62.5% off everything.

This is why they do their own brand--to be efficient and not resetting their aisles frequently they keep the same papers for years--you can purchase printed 12x12 paper at HL that you bought 5 years ago! It fits their business model. The real sb paper companies change out their lines several times a year, and don't want to have to keep stock around for years to supply the big box stores with reorders.

I guess I'm in the minority. I've found that the store brands were generally outdated but over the past few years, they've really started to do well. And I don't notice a difference in quality, at all, with most things they carry. American Crafts quality has gone down the crapper as of late and at their warehouse sale location in Utah, many things there are Recollections, so I'm fairly confident that they are in cahoots with the manufacturing. Not just with AC, either. They had some MME paper pads that were actually Teresa Collins releases a few years ago and Recollections branded calendar kits that were all MME release influences (each month had elements from a specific MME line).
I really am starting to like the Craft Smith brand and the washi that Michael's has been coming out with is AMAZING (it is no different than the pricey stuff you can find from boutique shops and you can get it for so much less)...some of the tubes I have gotten recently are my favorite ever. Little B is very expensive and also does the foiling, but the stick factor from their foiled washi is almost non existent...if you want to talk quality, that to me is not a good thing. Michael's and Hobby Lobby are even recognizing the issues with some of the foil peeling as you unravel the washi from the roll and even though it's a time consuming process, they've backed many of their foil tapes so the tape maintains it's design without sacrificing the stickiness of the tape.
One of my favorite items this fall (outside of Simple Stories Hello Fall) was the paper pads from Joann's. They are beautiful. I only wish they'd make coordinating embellishments to go with them, even if it were just stickers or washi tapes. But, this year was the first year they've done 6x6 paper pads and they were double sided on top of it (which is always nice...the 12x12 was the usual single sided design). I tend to be picky and I find more fault with some of the big names, particularly those items made by AC, than I do in store brands.
