I hate my Christmas tree skirt. It was cheap and did the trick. I've used it for 20 years LOL. I don't really want to buy an expensive pre-made skirt. I've seen a few photos of what looks like a blanket or throw and they look nice. Does anyone use a blanket draped under the tree? Show me your inexpensive but nice blankets. ETA: photo Attachments:

Most of my life I just used a cheap white twin sized bedsheet. Tuck the hems in so it doesn't scream sheets. I like to stack gifts under the tree and think a blanket would be too much bulk under there to put gifts on. A cheap rectangular table cloth would work too.

Oh, a table cloth. Good idea! Off to look around.

I've done that, we have a Christmas afghan that was a wedding present. Some years it's been wrapped to replace a skirt.
Other years it's been flat, like a picnic blanket and trees and a real skirt on top of it. I actually like this look a lot, but it's more time consuming to pleat so it looks planned.

I have used a tablecloth and a sheet at different times depending on what I needed for that particular tree. We get live trees and size varies year to year.

For many, many years I used the last quilt top my great grandmother ever pieced as our tree skirt. Because it wasn't quilted there wasn't a lot of bulk to deal with. Once I realized exactly how old it was, I finally put it away and now use a length of Christmas fabric instead.

I don't do a full size tree anymore but when I did, I just used a white sheet. The packages cover it.

My grandma used to buy one of those seasonal round tablecloths - the ones that feel like plastic/vyinl on top and flannel under? for her tree. I saw something a while back using the same thing except they cut a slit up to the middle of the circle, folded the cut edges under and used fabric glue to secure the edges and placed that under the tree but over the stand. They go on sale frequently and can get a new one every year. Shoot, there's always a bunch on clearance after Christmas. You can get one for next year then.

I had about 3.5 yards of leftover upholstery fabric that is green, and used it for years just draped around the bottom of the tree, with the edges tucked in. It worked out fine. I still use the fabric as an underlay,, but have bought a coordinating tree skirt that I put over it now.

Tree Skirts don't have to be expensive. Places like Target have cute and affordable ones.

Since my entire tree is Peanuts ornaments, I just use some blue flannel like Linus' blanket. Does that count?

We used a solid flat sheet for years. I finally made a regular tree skirt.

I used to use a white sheet to represent snow for my village. We don't do the village any more, so I bought a tree skirt. I probably paid 30-40 dollars for it, but have used it for at least 15 years.

I've used lengths of fabric before, just tucked in the raw edges. I also have a tartan tree skirt my mom made for me, sometimes I use that. When I put up a tabletop tree ( 2 or 3 foot) I use a vintage Christmas tablecloth. It looks so good!

Growing up we used a white sheet. My husband didn't like the idea of it or I'd still be doing it. I like the look.

That looks nice! Use whatever you like! A friend told me that she is putting her tree in a galvanized bucket for a rustic look. Cute! We've had the same tree skirt since our 17yo was a baby. I love seeing it in all our Christmas photos through the years.

We've never had a tree skirt. We've always used table clothes with the hems tucked under or quilts. I always preferred the organic look of the rolls and folds of fabric to the flat skirt look. We've been using 2 lap side quilts turned to the white side for the last 20 years.

Oddly that was the one thing I really went all out on and paid 19.99 at marshals or tj Maxx. I actually have 2 since my mom hand quilted one many years ago and gave it to me recently, but she didn't have the heart to put a slit in it, so I put it on my buffet instead of under the tree. I was going to suggest a blankie like Linus had, but I see someone already does that :-)

My sister made a tree skirt out of burlap. She used hot glue to attach ruffled burlap strips and ribbon to it and it turned out really cute.
I think the tablecloth idea is a good one too, or you could just use some cute Christmas print fabric from JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby. If you wanted finished looking edges and don't sew you could always iron up the raw edges and secure them with the skinny fusible web stuff that comes on a roll.

I have three trees including one small silver tabletop one that I put the ornaments on that we have bought on Caribbean cruises. When I added the third tree last year, I was short a tree skirt and I needed a small one since it was a small tree. I have an aqua blue pashmina and I used it. Looked great! I say use whatever you like!

Great ideas everyone. I saw a nice table cloth in Bed Bath and Beyond but I want to look at the fabric store tomorrow. I love doing something a bit different.
nnnsmom, I had my tree on a wooden crate last year. It was a smaller tree that I put into the corner and it worked well elevated.

A standard-sized skirt is not visible under our cascading pre-lit tree. Until I found an oversized tree skirt (for $40 at HomeGoods; original tag indicated a $595 MSRP) a couple years ago, I used a king-sized blanket or extra large tablecloth. I was in a HomeGoods early last week that had an entire aisle devoted to tree skirts! Hope you find something you like...
