I've read various articles of how Rosie justified her speculation on why she came to this conclusion. I can't condone what she said. Just because her daughter was diagnosed in September, it does not make her an expert. I learn something new everyday and I'm 7 years into this with 2 kids high and low on the spectrum. One of the reasons she stated was he doesn't smile. My HF kid with Autism is *overly* animated. He doesn't clap like others. Again, my kids are complete opposites with this as well. One does it fine, the other hates to slap his hands together. While I don't think that this was said to make Donald Trump mad, it was not right to say anything about this child who is a minor. It does not matter if he does or does not have Autism! It's one thing to say things behind closed doors out of concern. She put it on her blog for all to see. There has since been a sort of apology. I hope she learns if you know 1 kid with Autism, you know one kid with Autism.  |

He's just one of millions of others who are, it's not a huge deal, or anything to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. It just means he's wired up differently. TBH, given his father's attitudes, I hope for his sake he isn't autistic. I can't imagine his dad being particularly compassionate or understanding towards him. |

I don't think it's ok to talk about a kid just because their parent chooses to be in the public eye. However, when people talk about this as a possible context/explanation for things Trump has said or believes, I think it becomes relevant in terms of how it influences and frames his beliefs and policies. It's a fine line and I'm not necessarily saying Rosie was on the right side of it (I didn't read her post), but there are valid reasons for talking about it. |

She said what she did so that if it was true, it might be a great opportunity to raise awareness and to tie in with Melania's anti-bullying campaign to help stop bullying of kids with autism just for being 'different.' (if I recall the article I saw correctly.)
it's not like she was commenting on how ugly he was, or that he looked stupid, or anything like that- while I agree that a candidate's family shouldn't be raked over the coals for stuff like that, this wasn't like that. (And if people didn't write speculation, then no one would read US magazine, or any number of other magazines on the rack at the supermarket.)
It may not have been in 'good taste' for her to say it, but again, she wasn't the first one to do it. And last I looked, we're still free to say what we think, aren't we? (with notable exceptions prohibited by law, of course.)

However, when people talk about this as a possible context/explanation for things Trump has said or believes, I think it becomes relevant in terms of how it influences and frames his beliefs and policies. It's a fine line and I'm not necessarily saying Rosie was on the right side of it (I didn't read her post), but there are valid reasons for talking about it. I don't get this at all. Even it is true about Barron, how does it influence Trump's position on immigration, taxes, etc.? |

This was not a big popular rumor at all until Rosie decided to share that video someone made. I read the man who made it feels really bad about it now, because it blew up after she shared it.
It was a stupid, impulsive and mean thing to do and Rosie is just as awful as DT is. She is such a repulsive human being.

kids should stay out of it, and "outting" someone for a medical issue, orientation, etc isn't appropriate, no matter how "well meaning" the person thought they were

unfortunately, this might become one of those "you can't put the horse back in the barn" rumors. it's out there and even if it isn't true, it will just be out there. Barron will become a teenager while his father is in office and the press may capture him doing things that are typical teen but some people will misuse that to perpetuate the rumor again.

I do understand about taking the opportunity to raise awareness. But again...that is for the Trumps to decide to do if it turns out Barron indeed has autism. Not for anyone else to use Barron as the poster child. ITA with this! Why didn't Rosie use her own child to raise awareness? Why bring a child she doesn't even know personally into it? Her lame excuse about concern and awareness are unacceptable. |

The only time a special need the kid may or may not have should be discussed in public is when his mother is the one doing the talking. Although it would certainly be a great cause/platform for the future first lady to address (whether her son has it or not), that is for her to decide & no one else. The only comment I have about him is that he's a nice-looking young man. |

That's not what people are talking about (which I would think kind of obvious); people are talking about it in regards to policies it does influence. People are talking about it in response to statements he has made on vaccines, his position on mandatory vaccine policies, his positions on healthcare. |

Trump's 3 oldest children have been front and center in this campaign and now the transition team. They are fair game, but the little boy is not. I don't care if she were a doctor who specialized in the autism, it would not be appropriate for her or anyone to speculate about him publicly.
I like Rosie fine as an actress but shooting off her mouth like this will continue to make her a target.

Good Lord. I'm not sure which of the two I dislike the most (RO or DT). She had no business commenting on the mental status of anyone else's child. Given her past issues with trump, it comes across every bit as petty and vindictive as everything that comes out of the his foul mouth. I thought they both behaved like children years ago during their first spat and it appears nothing has changed. Frankly, I think they're exactly alike (loud, crass, attention-seeking, self-serving, egotistical, obnoxious, etc.) - that's why they can't stand each other.

This is not cool at all. I dislike Trump immensely but this is beyond the pale. I had some measure of sympathy for O'Donnell due to his heinous attacks but that has completely dissipated. Kids are off limits period.
This does nothing to further autism awareness and if anything makes it seem like it should be something to be ashamed of. No matter how nicely she phrased her speculation, she was obviously using it as a weapon.

I was really shocked Rosie went this low. It's clear retaliation for everything he did to her and she used a kid to do so. To me he just looked tired in all those clips. I think Melania suing Rosie is ridiculous, they sue for everything. Donald is still suing the two restaurants that pulled out of his hotel in DC last year because they didn't want to be affiliated with him after his Mexican comments. However I do wonder if the speculation is true, if this is the real reason why Melania doesn't want to take him out of school mid-year?
