I am putting them by theme but thought about mfg. not sure if I was doing cards for say a birthday I would remember which stamps I had by what mfg for birthdays unless they were listed just as birthday then I have the original packaging for mfg. easier to look through I would think. your ideas/thoughts?

Unless your proficient in knowing your mfg or blog I think theme is a better way to organize. Exactly. I'm pretty good at knowing the mfg but I find it a lot easier to organize by theme.

My current organization method is chaos. I just flip through all stamps until I find something interesting. My long-term plan is to organize by theme.

I organize by theme. It's very easy for me to find what I'm looking for.

Mine are on the shelf by company name. I know a lot of people make a stamp index, though, to browse through when they're looking for something. That way you can put something in multiple categories, like cats AND birthday.

I think it all depends on the way you think of your stamps. In my case, I think of manufacturer first. So I organize that way. With two exceptions. I have all my Christmas stamps and dies together. And all my Valentines stamps and dies. This is so I can put them away when that particular card making season is over and not have them cluttering up my work space.

I recently indexed my stamps and I love it. They are in a 3 ring binder so adding to the index is easy. The stamps are stored in binders labeled Objects, Seasonal/Sentiments, Flora/Fauna, Background, and Alphas. The few I chose to leave on wood blocks are in a clear craft tote. I do not have a huge inventory so finding the right stamp is easy.

In bags, canvas baskets, Iris drawers. Ugh. I just rummage through and frankly hate it. I just don't have extra time right now in my life to worry about it though, lol.

How do you think about them when you are ready to stamp? Do you think...I need that stamp by MFT here? Or more, I need a 'thank you' sentiment?
I have my organized like Jennifer McGuire, and unmounted my foam stamps thanks to some great directions from Kat. I have categories set up like (Sentiments, Holiday, Flourishes, Alphas) and within those individual stamp sets are kept together. For all my individual type stamps I have them sorted by categories like (thank you) within sentiments and (Christmas) within holiday.

I keep stamps in their sets but store in categories- sentiments, floral/nature, Christmas/holidays, tags, labels and similar and general images. I also have all my stamps and dies saved in Evernote so I can search for particular images or sentiments.

I organize by theme. I even break up sets if I have to. All my stamps are indexed. But the again I've been stamping for close to 20 years and have a couple hundred so I pretty much have to be organized.

Do you have a lot of variety of manufacturers? If not, it may be easier to organize by brand like others have suggested.

When I stamp I stamp by theme, I'm making birthday cards or thank you cards. I usually have an idea what I want to stamp on the card, flowers, balloons, ship. So I store my stamps by theme since it matches how I craft and think

Do you need to re-ink? I use Momento only for use with my alcohol markers. For a nice black impression and sentiments, I use versifine.

I want to sort by theme or even extreme theme by breaking up each set into pieces. All flying animals, all flowers, etc

I have way too many stamps, some of which I hardly use, and some that are pretty well loved.
They are stored by theme AND manufacturer if that makes sense. Sets stay in their original packaging, but the packages are organized by theme. Some themes--like Christmas--are divided into categories (trees, ornaments, deer, sentiments/greetings...). Stamp/die combos are stored together. The most used and the most recent purchases are tossed into a basket for easy access.

My wood-mounted rubber, plus large unmounted rubber & clear, stamps are stored by theme (eg backgrounds, holidays, seasons, lined) in a flat file (ie discontinued Pottery Barn Bedford 5-drawer cabinet), while small unmounted rubber & clear stamps are stored in trading card page protectors by (same) theme in a 3-ring (school) binder. HTH, & happy organizing!

They're much easier to find, and I get more use out of them when not locked into a set mentality. 2016 was a poor stamping and scrapping year. Repairing that is my main Leisure goal of 2017!!!
