I did not see a thread about this already. I watch LOTS of HGTV though I am not particularly a fan of their show. Just read that the couple are separating (it was listed in People mag online). Hope I am doing the link properly. Article

Sadly this does not surprise me much. Maybe it was tv and the producers, but they did not seem too tolerant of each other on their show.

I can't say that I am surprised - they've dealt with a lot in the past few years. He had cancer, a new baby, the show....the video linked talks about him getting the cops called because he was running around with a gun. I have to wonder if there are some undiagnosed mental health issues going on as well.

I'm not surprised. He seems to be a drama queen ready to blow at any moment.

Yeah, I'm not too surprised either. They really both seem like cold people to me - zero warmth and chemistry as a married couple. Was a little painful trying to watch them try to "Chip and Jo" it up in recent promos.

They both annoy me, but this kinda makes me sad. He is an odd character, IMO. Maybe it's the editing, I don't know. He is very cold and business-like. And type A personality which could be exhausting. Whatever the case, I'm still sad for them.

I'm sad to read this. They were leveraging the show into seminars and other areas so it will be interesting to see what happens with all of that. We were at an Anaheim Ducks game a few months ago and Tarek was sitting a few rows in front of us. It drove me nuts because I couldn't figure out how I knew him.

I'm still shocked they were ever really legally married. They presented like two character actors playing roles of a married couple; he overacts as the geeky, spastic Chicken Little, & she is the cool fashionista/beauty queen. Their demeanors & lack of chemistry (with each other & their daughter) distracted from the houses, so I don't think I ever watched an entire episode.

I'm really sad to hear this. I've always liked them. Their shows are very enjoyable to me. I want to see the results from a do-over, not the juvenile antics of Chip and Joanna. I can't stand those 2. Or the Property Bros either.

I thought I had read they were being sued regarding the seminars too? Always sad to hear about any couple, but can't say I'm surprised.

I can't tell you how many IRL couples I know who these two remind me of. They are couples who are the "sorority/fraternity" types or "Ken and Barbie" or whatever conjures up the idea of the beautiful guy/girl couple. They date, get married, flaunt their possessions, car, house, vacations etc. Then they settle in and have a child. WHich shows them life is not all parties and fashion. Their marriage starts to crack a bit w/the stresses of the realities of life and child-rearing. But they carry on. Then they decide to have another child. Bam, within a year or two, divorce!
I'm not saying this is what happened here, because obviously, I have NO IDEA what their relationship was about. Just that they always reminded me of these IRL acquaintances who went through this pattern.

I believed that they were married, but I still thought they were purposely acting out personalities similar to what you described. All along I was hoping that had a much better, warmer relationship in real life. I couldn't believe they could really be the way they act on the show. Save

That makes me sad to hear this. Theirs is one of my favorite of the HGTV shows. I'm am really surprised by this, actually.
It's sad to hear any couple separating. I'm sure it's worse when it plays out in the headlines.

I'm sad to read this. They were leveraging the show into seminars and other areas so it will be interesting to see what happens with all of that. I read they never personally attended any of the seminars, and people felt pretty misled to pay a lot of money for info that wasn't very useful or personalized. Like they just slapped their names on to get people to sign up.

We received info on a local event and it is pretty clear that it is run by their team and no promises that either Tarek or Christina will be there. The free seminar is just a sales session for the longer (3 day?) workshops. It really is a just smaller version of Trump U, and, yes, they are taking advantage of their name recognition to make money.

I never cared for them.. it always seemed a little to 'in your face' or something. I can't put my finger on it. And I am sure this is editing for the most part, but how they always show her rolling her eyes at him over all the home decisions drove me nuts. They are a little to Barbie and Ken for my taste.

As usual, I am in the minority here. I have always enjoyed their show. I am always sorry when a family is being broken apart. The children pay a huge price. I hope they can work out their differences but if not, I hope they will part amicably and place the best interest of the children first.

Huh- just last night I saw a commercial for their show- it was all warm and fuzzy and Christmasy, with the two of them and their daughter. Bad timing for TLC, or whatever station they're on. HGTV. I did like seeing the process of how they got from the before to the after on their shows.

I only liked to watch the show to see what Christina was wearing. I found it sort of irritating that they didn't do any of the work themselves. The guy would be wearing flip flops in a construction site.

I always found their on-screen relationship to be somewhat odd (she comes across as a total snob). While the news of their separation is not surprising, it's always sad when a family crumbles, especially where small children are involved. They've been through a lot in the last few years, and I know from experience how that can screw with emotions and mental health (trying to recover from it myself). I really hope they'll remain as amicable as possible for the kids.
I found it interesting that they said they will continue to work together professionally. That would be really difficult.

I find her to be the coldest, most annoying, FAKE person on HGTV. He obviously overreacts and plays to the show, but she is just unbearable!

The only thing that would surprise me more is if you told me that David and Hilary from Love It or List It were getting married.

It is very sad. My niece (a nanny) lives a few houses away from them and said that Tarek is actually a very warm, nice guy always outside with the kids. She described Christina as "typical OC". All about the money and the appearances. Hearing that, I'm not sure their relationship shown on TV was very authentic - now this news story showed some issues going on. Whatever they decide to do, I hope the kids are the priority. BTW - anyone else think that she could be the next Real Housewife of Orange County?

I enjoyed their show, but there was just always something off about them. Like they tried to hard to be perfect in every sense they could. The cancer diagnosis made them seem a bit more real...but everything about how they are marketed makes them seem unattainably perfect. Those are some seriously steep expectations...we are human, flaws are part of our nature.
Their show is better than another one that my husband watches (not on HGTV, though, I don't think). It's a flipping show that takes place here in Vegas. The guy is a total over actor and it's so clear that the 'problems' are staged based on the lack of quality in camera work (certain things are finished in one scene and then 'later' scenes are before they are finished). They do the exact opposite of trying to be super perfect and come off as assholes instead.

I liked him but I didn't like her. I remember seeing the earlier ones where she always had her daughter with them. They seemed to call one of the parents for the deals quit a bit. I really don't like the Vegas one with the dark haired girl. That must be the one not on HGTV.. I only watch them when there's nothing on lol. But it is sad if that's the case. The article says they will continue to work professionally does that mean just to finish out the the show or continue with what their doing? I wonder?

I always thought they didn't "mesh". I do watch the show, but her voice drives me insane. The article I read made it sound like they were going to continue to do business together...
