I'm at work today, my husband and mom are off. I 100% thought everyone would be off on Monday but I just over heard my boss tell someone Monday is not a holiday. Now I'm thoroughly confused and I guess I was wrong to assume offices are closed on Monday since Christmas falls on Sunday?
What do you think? This is my daughters first Christmas and I really would like to spend some time with her, I think I need to go ask for Monday off

I would expect retail to be open Monday but an office - no. Since the holiday falls on a Sunday I would expect an office to be closed on Monday in lieu. I work in a 24/7 job so I am working over the weekend.

I work at a walk-in, urgent care clinic. The only day of the year we are completely closed is Christmas. We will close early(3 pm) on 12/24 & 12/31.

My office got Monday off just because it seemed unfair that Christmas is on the weekend so they gave us one more day to be with family. They are also giving us Jan 2 off.

I work in Radiology at a medical clinic and we are closed on Monday. Normally when the holidays fall during the week, we close at noon on the eves and closed for the holiday itself.

My SO is working Monday. He works for a small family owned repair shop. It is not retail but his boss is keeping it open on Monday. I work in a school I am working today but do not go back until January 3rd. I am kind of pissed that he gets nothing off for the holiday since it falls on a Sunday this year.

Like Annabella said, its kind of unfair that if you normally get certain holidays off you get screwed if it falls on a weekend. The small companies seem to deal with more uncertainty since there isn't a business schedule set in stone Im going to push for Monday off but I think I will lose the battle for Jan 2nd. Is he working that day too?

We are done by 11 today and don't go back until the 28th. However we will have to work the 7th in order to make up for time lost and to fulfill obligations and orders for our customers.

I'm out at 12 today. Our office is closed Boxing Day (Monday) and we get a day in lieu of Christmas on Tuesday.
Half day on the 30th and, since New Years day is on Sunday, we get Monday in lieu.
ETA* Christmas, Boxing, and New Years days are all federal stat holidays here.

Our office will be open on Monday, and we have jobs scheduled. I really don't expect a bunch of phone calls though but we'll be here. Seemed silly to not be. We'll just be sitting at home or sitting here and answering calls making money.

I work for a church, so obviously we are expected to work during the holiday. My church does a great job in helping us balance family and work. We have to work at least one service (either on the 23rd or 24th). The service gets assigned to us and we get a different service every year. So you never always have to work Christmas Eve 5pm service, for example. We have one Christmas Day service as well, but my department doesn't have to work that service. We are closed Monday and Tuesday this year.

In exchange for cleaning the office (small -- only 3 of us here), I work until noon every Friday, but paid for 40 hours, so nothing special today. We are closed Monday due to the holiday landing on Sunday. We are closed on January 2nd for the same reason.

Our office is closed every Friday so I am off now through Monday. We also get January 2nd off. It's not a policy my boss just knew it would be so slow it'd be pointless to be open so he decided to give us the days off.

Those who work in an office setting or for the government (city, state or federal) have Monday off. Retail, the only person who I know that has Monday off is because she doesn't usually work Mondays. Some of the local factories are doing their holiday shut down the week between Christmas and New year's.
DH's dad seemed put off or disappointed that dh didn't have the whole week off. I think he either took the week off or simply has it off because his factory shut down for the week. Dh has taken the week between Christmas and New year's off in the past because he had the time and it was an use it or lose it situation. I don't know if he has enough time or if he's simply letting it roll over this year. I never asked. Me, I'm never off. I just get lazy about how much work I actually get done.

My husband is a VP of a non-profit - they got today (friday) and also Monday off for Christmas. They also get January 2 off for new New Years.
My boys, though, have to go to school on Jan 2 .

I think most places (that can close) are treating Monday as a holiday.
I work in a university library. My particular department is off after today (well I took yest and today as vacation days so I'm already off) and then most are off until Jan 3rd. Nobody in my department will be working in the office over break, though a couple will be working a couple hours a day next week from home. A skeleton crew will be in the library and some other university departments until then. And the medical campus/hospital will be mostly open of course.
Dh is self employed. He is taking off today (though taking some of the guys who work for him to lunch) and is also taking Monday off.
ETA my employer is calling Monday our Christmas holiday and the following Monday is New Years Holiday. The days off in between are called season days and are paid.

The same thing will happen the following week for New Years Day.

I actually think most places are open on Monday. Except for federal/govt. Most places use PTO now, so you actually end up not using that PTO, and can use it for something else later. Smaller places of employment will decide on their own. I think a lot of them will be open though.

It's different in the UK because we have Bank Holidays which are statutory, so if Christmas falls on a weekend then Monday is automatically a holiday. Same for new year.
I've always worked in offices where they close for the whole week and you are expected to use some of your annual leave to cover it. But - they always tell you way in advance! It's really bad that your boss hasn't made it clear to people.

I think it depends on how the company does their holidays. We normally get 2 days off for Christmas, Christmas Eve and Christmas day. We got our holidays yesterday and today so will be going back on Monday. Well, except me 'cause I took a vacation day.
