Madonna stated that she has "thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House"
Do you think the Secret Service should/will investigate her? Was she within her right to say it? Was what she said okay?
I think it's truly unfortunate that she said it. I think her big mouth has taken away from the otherwise peaceful marches taking place. People still may talk about the sheer numbers of people participating, but I think they'll also be forever tied to what Madonna said.

She's within our rights for her special self to have a nice long chat with Secret Service.

That's not a cool thing to say.
I don't however, think of Madonna when I think of all the marches yesterday. I don't believe most people will let one dumb statement from a celeb destroy the whole message marchers were trying to make. Just my opinion there.

This isn't a right/left issue. Any comment that involves explosives and the White House, irrespective of my like/dislike of the occupant of that house, should rightly come to the attention of the Secret Service. AND I don't care who says it, yes, they should get be looked into and talked to.

Most people would know that not only is that not a cool thing to say, but running your mouth like that may also very well earn you a well-deserved visit from the Secret Service. If Madonna is so rabid and so angry that she's unable to control herself, perhaps she needs to seek some counseling.

I watched A LOT of coverage on the marches when I got home yesterday. Pretty much all evening long. I never saw what Madonna said. I'll go google. But I was there. I can tell you what I'll remember, I'll remember the fun and the laughter. I'll remember how bright and colorful everything was--the protest signs, the sea of pink hats. I'll remember the people I met... men, women, children, Christians, Muslims, people from all over the world, a lesbian ex-nun who was hilarious, a cancer survivor "marching" in a wheelchair... I'll remember seeing people so diverse, but united by the hope that we can make a change, for as far as I could see ...

As a super lefty, libtard, gun- hating snowflake who marched in a pussyhat, I think her comment was appalling and distasteful. As much as think DT is unfit to be president, I don't condone any sort of physical harm to the first family and their employees. I wonder if any of the speeches were proofread by the organizers beforehand. I highly doubt many people would have thought that sentiment was acceptable.

I'm not sure if they will take her seriously enough to investigate but yes the Secret Service should talk to her. While she has no relevancy to me, she does to others and could influence them. I think she says stuff like that to focus attention on her personally rather than the cause. I wish she would finally disappear from the public eye.

I know of a crazy man local to me who got pulled over for something not so bad, and went on some paranoid rant to the cop about Obama being behind it (a conspiracy against him of course ) and went on to threaten to kill the SOB president. I'm not sure how it played out from that point but I know he spent a few years in jail for it. Yeah, I don't care which way you lean. You don't talk about blowing up the White House. I didn't listen to her whole speech so I may be speaking out of turn here, but if someone has a platform in which they can reach others they should use it wisely and responsibly. On a side note not meant to derail @gajenny I love your new profile pic, you look amazing!

As someone who spent a good share of my day following coverage of the marches, the celebrities were not the interesting part to me. I was blown away by the vast numbers of regular citizens who showed up and held an impressive peaceful demonstration. Do I think people who want to dismiss the marches will use Madonna's words against it? Yes, that's what they'll use and I wish she wouldn't have said it. However, people who see things from my viewpoint are going to continue to feel fired up and ready to go.

Like anyone else, she's within her right to say anything, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a consequence.
I didn't know anything about the comment, or even Madonna's participation, before this thread, so I strongly doubt the marches (including the one I went to) will be forever linked with Madonna in my mind. Because of the question, though, I wonder if this is getting a lot of play in media I don't read/view.
But it also helps explain a President Trump tweet I read about an hour ago:
(Didn't know what he meant about celebrities and still don't know what he meant by participants not voting. I could join Twitter and send him a photo of my voter sticker, though. LOL.)

Yes, Madonna's been around long enough to know this will get her some press. I love(d) her music especially the early songs. But sometimes I wonder how a woman only slightly older than me hasn't aquired more depth. She is not linked to the March for me, she was just one famous person there with an opinion.

But it also helps explain a President Trump tweet I read about an hour ago: WTF is he talking about? He was a reality TV star with a show called 'Celebrity Apprentice' - but now he's king of the world they shouldn't express an opinion? Cockwomble.

But you DO NOT MAKE STATEMENTS like that w/o being investigated and potentially charged. No matter who is in the White House. Unless he got there by force. Trump didn't. He relied on fear and hatred. Which is perfectly legal.

She should absolutely chat with the Secret Service. IMO her remarks take away from the overall amazing-ness that was the march. I was by the stage but had already started walking away so I didn't even know she was there until the news covered her.
Many people we spoke with along the march route commented that they were hoping people kept it together so that the real unifying message couldn't be twisted. I think I have read that nationwide there were 4 arrests. Pretty amazing. In DC we thanked the guardsmen and women who were there, many walking by and highfiving them. Same with the police. When an emergency vehicle had to get through people would make way and say thank you as they went past. There were many times that I was just about brought to tears. I am so glad I went.

Secret Service should question her if they deem it necessary. I think it was a stupid a$$ thing to say and cringed when I heard it. Do I think she meant it literally or for shock value? My guess would be shock value but it's not my job to decide. It is the Secret Service's. And I agree they are probably going to have their hands very full.

I was not at all impressed with her words. I am by no means a pearl clutcher and am prone to cuss BUT I don't get why she had to talk the way she did. I felt she was doing it more for show.
Now Ashley Judd on the other hand....I thought she kicked ass!!!!!!!

I have serious doubts that the Secret Service will be visiting with her. I bet if average Joe American said something like that then they would more than likely get a visit.

Of course what she said is inappropriate. Regardless of who lives in that house, it is our house. Our taxes go to fund that house and everybody in it. Why would we ever condone behavior that will only harm us.

Did anyone read the entire comment?
“I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House,” Madonna said, but she “knows this won’t change anything.”
Just because someone fantasizes about something, it doesn't mean they will act on it. She obviously knows her fantasy is not the answer. Should she have said it outloud.

I cringed when I heard about this, because I knew some people (who likely weren't supportive of the march in the first place) would focus on that moment and completely dismiss and ignore all of the positive and meaningful parts of the day.
My opinion on what she said? Wrong and inappropriate. I don't support any talk of violence, no matter how angry one may be.
ETA: I also cringed when a friend of mine on FB absolutely lost her mind over what Madonna said and then proceeded to go in later that night and share a meme that included a quote from Ted Nugent. 😒
