It took me a while to get used to the various critters and creatures in Australia but after 18 yrs, not much phases me anymore. Except for this. As a born and bred Midwestern girl who really appreciates a hard freeze in the winter, I've come along way from the first time I found a cockroach in my house and tore the place a part looking for all the others. There weren't any. This though, I don't think I'll ever get used to it. If you're offended by bad language or spiders, don't watch. I will say it wS pretty funny to watch after when I realised my dd had filmed the entire thing. It's apparently just over 3 minutes. I'd have sworn it was 3 hrs! youtu.be/dNBo8gy981c

Omg. I actually even like spiders but that- I probably would have closed the door and moved.
I woke up once when I was living in Taiwan and there was a giant spider, 8-9 inches across on the ceiling right above my head. It's the same feeling... Shiver.
You were a good sport about that one!

Haha!!! Yuk! I never ever kill Huntsman spiders, I let them roam free in my house. But if I found a gazillion babies in the house then I would definitely be getting out the can or Mortein on those suckers!

We don't kill Huntsmen either as they hang out near the ceiling and eat bugs and don't bother anyone. This poor mama or papa or whatever it was got caught in the crossfire when it started repelling down towards me!

Why didn't you just torch the place? I'm pretty sure that's what I would have done.

Okay wait....there were babies in that video also? I was so focussed on the big one that I didn't notice babies. omg. Now, do I dare go back and watch? It remind me of when I lived in West Africa. omg omg They had this bug that we all called a cockroach but I have no idea if he really was. The thing about him was that he could FLY!!!! And he was too big to step on so you had to spray him. And then run like heck. Except that then you didn't now where he was. Fun times. Not. Okay, I'm going back in to rewatch the video. eta: Back, and I thought those little black dots were just the ceiling tile. Do you mean that if you left them alone all those little guys would grow up to be as big as the big one? Have I ever mentioned how much I love our winters and the freezing that goes on? AussieMeg Remind me never to come visit you. Even though my mother's family is all in Australia and I could make a nice trip of it. But if you let those things roam freely around your house....?

I don't mind spiders but I don't think I've ever seen that many babies in one place. Like AussieMeg I usually leave the huntsmen to go about their business until my Dd sees them and freaks out.

Yes, the little black dots were all newly hatched spiders that I'm guessing would have turned into Huntsmen as they are the only kind of spiders we get in the house aside from the occasional daddy long legs. These things were already pretty big and recognisable. There were hundreds or thousands who knows - just way too many. That's why I went crazy with the bug killer. It's one thing for them to hatch in the roof or outdoors or wherever. When it happens indoors they are fair game. I shiver to think how many might have grown up in the house!!! This is the second time it's happened. They literally came out of nowhere but last year, there was no adult Huntsman with them when they hatched. And it happened in the the same place; the toilet.

That big one was fine but the bazillion babies...ugh! My dh is more of a freaking out crazy person about spiders than I am. We tell a funny story about one that was on our bedroom ceiling one night...it's hilarious because when I start telling it the spider is tiny and when he butts in and finishes you'd think the spider was enormous.

I guess I'd be starting a renovation project to add on a new bathroom and I'd leave that one to the spiders. Just chop it off the house and burn it!

I cunningly left my door open all night and yay, it is now half way down the hallway heading for my daughter's room! We never kill them but if they start jumping or RUNNING ACROSS THE FLOOR!!! we have a special spider catching device that we use to capture and release. It is a see through plastic cylinder that is closed at one end and open at the other. Place it over spider (it's about a metre long so no chance it will land on us) and it will run down to end. Cover open end with plate, run outside (door already open in readiness) and throw spider into garden. Corinne

I totally had to drown a Huntsman in Mortein the exact same way when I was living in QLD. No babies though. That's the real concern here! I think you handeled it perfectly!

When I was younger I used to put them on my hand and chase people with them. PS. If it's a white tail spider those bastards get sprayed and squished.

I would be out of there so fast. **shudder** As long as I know their rough whereabouts, it's fine. We do kill Redback Spiders because they are poisonous and can make you really ill. I just found out that my daughter used a back scratcher and "diverted" the spider I mentioned before into my grandsons' bedroom so it didn't get into her room! He's been on holiday in Bali and returns home tomorrow. Corinne
