It is completely different when you are targeting one group. Actually he's signed an executive order to list crimes committed by illegal immigrants and if a sanctuary city neglected to honor the detainer: Well, I feel, and I don't think I'm alone, given the history of "lists" calling out certain groups it's a slippery slope we are on... Right now I have nothing to worry about because I'm neither an illegal immigrant nor a criminal, but when we start setting precedents like this it opens the door for a "list" someday that might have my name.

You really are determined to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear... Totally off topic but I've never heard this saying before. I always hear it as a "sow's ear", you know, going for the bit of alliteration. Save

But again, his executive order is not calling for listing names. It's an enhancement of the existing Declined Detainer Report (I believe it is changing the frequency, but would love more information) as well as listing cities that that are not fulfilling ICE requests. You can see a report from 2014 here: cis.org/sites/cis.org/files/Declined%20detainers%20report_0.pdfI've had several extremely inflammatory facebook posts on this issue hit my feed today. I am all for carefully watching, I'm not for misstating what has been done.

I bet even Jack the Ripper,s and Hitler's families loved them too. You can't compare a family love to being a good person. Most serial killers families loved them too. The opposite also exists. I know a woman whose father was well known in his community. Even now, 20 years after his death, people will see her and say "Wasn't your father.....?" and when she gives affirmation to that they start sharing with her with stories of how nice he was and how much they all liked him and so on. Behind closed doors he was an alcoholic who was abusive towards his wife and verbally cruel to his children. His daughter, even all of these decades past her childhood, still hates when people come up to her to tell her these things. She always says afterwards "Why could he only show kindness to other people? Why did we get all of the bad?". Save

Not to mention wanting to torture people, publishing a list of illegal immigrants who commit crimes (which btw did you know Hitler also had a list published weekly (could be monthly) of Jews who committed crimes?)...I could go on Is this any different than my community paper that has a Police Blotter and lists all of the local crimes committed, with names? It's different because when you gather together the crimes committed by only one small group of people it can be very effectively used to try to skew the public's opinion of that group. It makes it easier to convince people that the majority of a group are problematic or criminals. We wouldn't want someone publishing a separate list of woman who commit crimes in the US. We'd be saying "Hey?? Where are the men on this list?? They committed crimes, too!" SaveSave

We've heard that illegal immigrants are much less likely to commit crimes as they are trying to stay out of the eye of officials. We've heard they're a bunch of murderers and rapists. What's wrong with knowing the truth? 275 cities do not cooperate with ICE. So if they arrest someone and Immigration officials request that they detain them to be transferred for deportation the cities refuse and release them - even during the Obama administration when his public policy was to target repeat, violent criminals. I would like to know more about the nature of these releases. Let's get away from rhetoric and look at actual facts. Are they releasing violent offenders? Are they releasing people arrested for minor offenses and pose little danger to the community? I live in a sanctuary city (well I guess technically, I live on the outskirts). I'd like to know the information about my city. And if it's consistent with the rhetoric I hear. If they are not releasing violent offenders, I'll be more comfortable with the argument that it does more harm than good for local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE as it impacts things such as witness cooperation, etc.

It would be nice if he would treat the people in Mississippi who have had horrific tornadoes this week with as much care and respect instead of ignoring the pleas of help from their Governor. You really should check first. According the the FEMA website 1.5million had already been approved as of Jan 15th. For tornadoes that happen on Jan 21-23? Doubtful. He finally provided help on Jan 25.

He finally provided help on Jan 25. The governor said on his own Facebook page that he requested the help on the night of the 23rd. By 2:30 on the 25th there's already a news story saying that it was approved. I'd say that's pretty quick approval in federal government terms, no? And the Governor thanked him for how quickly it was handled:

I give you props for "Where there is hatred, let me sow love."
Not that everyone "hates" him, but you know what I mean.
I want to believe the guy has good intentions. Keep 'em coming.
