I had a shelf in my bedroom for years that I had several sentimental pieces on it. .. I took it down yesterday to paint. It's just a wooden shelf I got in the 80s and very country looking. I painted it with chalk paint in attempts to get rid of that 80s look.. ya know dusty rose and blue look.. anyways, for 17 years (I can't believe it's been that long) it held a few pieces that my dad gave me from when he worked at Royal Doulton.. And then my mom bought me a Precious Moments Princess Diana Figurine years ago, that she had to go to the actual place in Missouri where it was the only place it sold it at. (I did find one on ebay that wasn't too expensive), but still... my heart just fell to the ground. This just sucks. I put it back on the same nail, thought it was secure and put my little treasures on it. Two seconds later, bam it falls and it beheaded my Princess Diana along with the other things my dad gave me. I am just sick to my stomach. Life goes on.... it could be worse, I know... but this just makes me sad.

Can you glue her head back on? Or glue the other things? If not, maybe make a mosaic tray or tabletop or something with the broken glass pieces?

I'm sorry. I would be sad about that, too. If it helps, scrapbook it. Find pictures of the items online and print them out, then take a picture of the offending shelf and the pile of pieces to tell the story. I would totally do that so my kids would know the story about things that meant a lot to me. YMMV.

My heart fell reading this I broke a saucer that was only one of two left of my Mum's favourite china, she still drinks her tea out of a cup and saucer and I felt so awful. 'Things' can mean such a lot to us.

Even if you replace pieces like that, it's not the same. I'm sorry... I would be sad, too.

I'm so sorry. Why does it seem to always be the things that mean the most to us?

OMG!! I'm sorry! This would suck. I have several things on shelves too, and every once in awhile I will look at them, and think. Damn, I'd be screwed if they fell down. I had my DH screw the nails in to the wall though.

I'm so sorry! I had something like that happen a few years ago with a beautiful little tea set my husband brought me from Taiwan. He spent hours gluing it all back together as best he could, which was so sweet. But it was still ruined. Things like that have so much meaning, I know.

I'm sorry. Sentimental things have an intangible value that can't be quantified.

Sorry this happened.
When the 1994 Northridge Earthquake happened, my Lladro wedding cake topper broke. I was able to find a professional company who repaired it seamlessly. Is that an option for you?

So so sorry. Yeah, they, are just things...but sometimes things hold so many memories. Hope you can repair or replace, though it won't be the same. Hugs.....

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I know how you feel, I keep a lot of sentiments things. Is there anywhere you can get it repaired. I know we have a couple of specialist places over here that repair Royal Doulton. Just had a quick google on your behalf there's this one in CT but there might be more if you google. I know a couple of people that have had repairs done over here and you would never be able to tell.
