I love this thread. My boss is wicked smart. He uses dollar words all of the time (big fancy words). I love to hear him talk and then scamper to my computer to look them up. He thinks I am taking notes on what we need to do, but I am really just writing them all down. Most of the people who know tell him they need a thesaurus to understand him. The other day I had to teach him a comma rule, so I think we are pretty equal now.

Love this thread! I don't have a favorite word, but I have been thinking a lot lately about the power of words. When the millionth political rant scrolled by in my facebook feed today, I thought to myself how awful and non-pc the slang "libtards" is... makes me cringe. Along the same lines "special snowflakes" is soooooo condescending.

I love so many words! Palindromes are my favorites to see out and about- like civic and level.
I enjoy writing the word government, but I'm not sure why? Random, I know.
I loathe current abbreviated words- totes, adorbs, sammy, etc. like fingernails across a chalkboard.
I'll have to think on this and add more. Fun to contemplate!!

I have 3 current favorites that I have been using a lot lately: magnanimous fortuitous bandicoot DSO calls my dad a "silly old bandicoot" and it makes me giggle. I love it so much. (Not sure my dad is quite as keen on it though LOL!) This is a bandicoot, in case anyone is wondering. It is a marsupial native to Australia. I quite like serendipitous, I might start using that one instead of or as well as fortuitous. DSO and I also use the F and the C word faaaaaaar too often (only in conversation with each other or like-minded friends). Sorry to those who are offended by those words! My least favorite word is panties. I'm much more aggrieved by the excessive use of panties on this board than the F bomb. Ok AussieMeg, I might be back on to one day visiting Australia if I could see a bandicoot! But if any of those creepy spiders come my way I am out!!

YES! I LOVE the word kerfluffle, too! And many other Yiddish words! One of my other faves is vaklempt (reminds me of that hilarious Saturday Night Live skit where Mike Meyers played a talk-show host named Linda Richman..... also....he'd mention a topic and say "discuss amongst yourselves" ..... I also enjoy the words SCHLEP and SHTICK ------------------------------------------------I also LOVE to learn new words, so I googled anniebygaslight 's "val·e·tu·di·nar·i·an"ˌvaləˌt(y)o͞odnˈerēən/noun1.a person who is unduly anxious about their health.-----------------------------------------------------------ScrapbookMyLife ....Thanks! Another new one I learned, thanks to this thread:Solivagant (Wandering alone, wandering along, rambling along, solitary wandering).I'm surprized I've never heard that one.----------------------------------------------------------Our parents are/were very educated and well-read, so we learned a TON of fun wordsfrom them since we were young. They also made us look words up inthe dictionary---very often! Can you imagine if we'd had google?

I adore you, but I feel like I might drive you crazy. Then you'd be just like my husband! Lol.

I mentioned TWITLER last night to DH---assuming he'd heard it already, since he CLOSELY follows everything political whether by reading or TV . Nope, he hadn't...and he LOVES it....he thinks it's brilliant I also told him I'm pretty sure someone here came up with it....

I like discombobulated. I also like the word epididymitis, but I might not like the sound of it so much if I had those parts! Trying to think of words I hate...maybe I'll update later.

My least favorite words recently are BABY BUMP and DEBUT, as in celebrities debuting their baby bump. I also abhor the word SCHMEAR. I prefer to ask for my bagel to have cream cheese.

My new favorite word - assinine! (if i spelled it right! LOL!) Least favorite 'pussy' I hate even spelling iti I hate that it was used for the woment thing, trump thing and anything else that's it's associated with. I just HATE the word. Other than that the only two words I can't stand are Kiddos and Pregger or Prego- don't have either or have never been, but I the words still make cringe and Slay. I can't figure that one out. Maybe cause it's trendy!
