My Beloved cannot abide the word 'moist'. To the point of being ridiculous about it. My favourite word is 'valetudinarian'. I try to drop it into a conversation at least once a day. Off to look up this word . . . I'm intrigued

I like the words SERENDIPITY and SHENANIGANS. Also HUNKER. I don't like the word JOURNEY in phrases like "my weightloss journey..." I too enjoy the word shenanigans! My least favorite word is moist.

The first great word that comes to mind - calliope.
The least favorite - sucks.

Least favorite: Creosote. I'll use it in a sentence for you.
"DH won't shut up about the f*cking creosote."
Favorite: Warm.

Favorites: frisson, cartouche, scarlet, heliotrope
Least favorite: I think the N word goes without saying. It will never pass my lips. I also can't say "pussy" very easily, but I don't have the same aversion to the C word. Clumps, clotted, and curdled all disgust me just because of the visuals I get.

I wish the word "crap" was not used so prolifically. I particularly abhor when people refer to any type of items as crap -- for example, a pile of paperwork on the table as in "Please excuse all my crap." Can't we just call it stuff? Or any other more innocuous word. I also dislike the word "fart." It's crude in my opinion. I agree with you! But somehow when my kids leave their stuff all over the place and don't pick it up, after a couple of days I call it "crap"! I can't say "fart" either!

Among my favorite (sounding) words:
Mellifluous Munificent Percolate Imbroglio Twee Proprietary Serendipity Perplexed Gallipoli
Least favorite (sounding) word: Car - especially the way I say it, sadly. I dismay myself several times each day.

My least favorite word is "never". Especially when people use it to say "I would never......". Life has a way of handing you situations you didn't see coming, leading you down paths you didn't expect, and leading to choices you couldn't imagine making previously. So I try to avoid using "never" in that way, and am always distracted by that same thought process when I hear someone else say it. The older I get, the more I find wisdom in the "never say never" advice. Least favorite - chat/chatty, spendy,, pricey, panties, preggo, sucks, and any other "trendy" words. Add surcie, sammie, pressie, and lots of other cutesy words to that list. One of my favorite words is serendipity.

I have 3 current favorites that I have been using a lot lately: magnanimous fortuitous bandicoot DSO calls my dad a "silly old bandicoot" and it makes me giggle. I love it so much. (Not sure my dad is quite as keen on it though LOL!) This is a bandicoot, in case anyone is wondering. It is a marsupial native to Australia. I quite like serendipitous, I might start using that one instead of or as well as fortuitous. DSO and I also use the F and the C word faaaaaaar too often (only in conversation with each other or like-minded friends). Sorry to those who are offended by those words! My least favorite word is panties. I'm much more aggrieved by the excessive use of panties on this board than the F bomb.

I loathe the words pussy and tit. I think they are so vulgar. I mean, I hate them so much so that I want to throw something at someone when they use either of those words. However, I take no issue with the word fart. I totally agree. I physically cringe every time I hear the "P word". Of course, that means that people in my family think it's hilarious to say it. I admit to having a trash mouth to often, but that word NEVER, ever comes out of it. A previous poster says they hate "douche" and I use that one much to freely.

I love the word trollop but don't necessarily use it in its true, old fashioned meaning, more as a lighthearted insult... "Ye daft trollop" The word phlegm makes me want to heave, especially as I am actually sitting here eating my breakfast right now.

I LOVE threads related to words ! I also love the word shenanigans and Tom Foolery ! I remember manyyyy posts on the old two peas board about the hatred of the word moist . It doesn't bother me, but I can totallly understand why it bugs others. Cacaphony! --hate it !!!! I also dislike journey used the way others said! Another VERY disliked word mentioned on the old board a lot was panties. Doesn't bother me, but I usually say "undies". We have a very hard time saying FART, too! We call them ducks, air biscuits,
or toots
A few people I know and love have been WAYYY overusing the word intentional lately, and it BUGS me for some reason....I think because it sounds too forced/ trendy. I see it on facebook too often lately, as in: "I want to be INTENTIONAL about _____. Not a word; but I HATE the expression ("look like") as in... "What does (life, career, love, etc.) LOOK LIKE for you?" I HATE that !!! P-word and C-word.....HATE !! ---------------------------------------------------------------

Two medical words I LOVE:
1. tensor fascia lata (thigh muscle)--- I think it sounds like something very pretty and elegant 2. salpingoophorectomy (pronounced: sal-pingo-ooh-for-ectomy) ( removal of fallopian tubes and ovaries)

I like the word magnanimous for some reason. Years ago my coworker used it in a regular sentence (English is her 2nd language) and I was really taken with how she said it and very impressed she did. So I like that one.
I hate the F word. So crude and crass in my opinion.

My favorite word is incandescently. I love it! I remember hearing it in Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" movie Keira Knightley is describing how her new husband can call her Mrs. Darcy when he incandescently loves her. I knew the meaning of the word but just hearing it like that made it sound so beautiful. Incandescently. It sounds like the love is all lit up inside.
I love words so most of the ones mentioned so far don't bother me so much. They are words. Pussy to me brings me back to when "pussy" meant a cat. I guess it's because of all of the reading I do.
The word I hate is the "N" word. That one I really do hate.

I always taught my classes to say flatulate though since it did offend some people.

My mom used the word pussy all of the time for kittens. When I taught first grade, she came to my room and read the Owl and Pussycat and brought muffins. I love the word pussy, but for me, it has a different connotation. Now my dad could say every dirty word in the book, but he wouldn't say the C word.
