I'm sorry it didn't work out.
I am excited you are trying the saavata though because that is the one dh and I are going to get this summer.

Patter, thanks for your update. I am reviewing the Saatva webpage now. I, again, will appreciate any reviews and comments you can give me on this new mattress.

How did you hear about Saatva? I heard from dh who has a coworker with one. We liked the thought of it because it has coils and foam, not just foam

Just curious, is there a reason you don't go to a furniture shop to try the mattresses?
I got a mattress at Macys, it's king sized, I think we spent about $1500. I needed a mattress that is extra firm and has no pillow top or anything that I can sink in to. Before this we had a mattress with a thick pillow top and I was in constant pain. I believe most people actually need an extra firm regular (no foam/latex/pillowtop) mattress, but the idea of sinking into something soft is appealing. We do have a separate two inch foam topper on our mattress, but it is still solid and firm, I don't get 'stuck' in it, I can easily get on and off it and turn around/adjust myself without any difficulty. I've never sat on a foam mattress and thought 'this would be comfortable', even the 'extra firm' foam mattresses, every time I sit on one I think 'i don't know if I can get out of it.'

I hope you find a mattress that works for you. We are coming up on the time to replace ours and I dread it. I'm seriously considering a split King as DH and I are like that couple on the Sleep Number commercials where the guy has the kitten and likes a soft mattress and the woman wants a very firm mattress. I can't do memory foam at all either. I'll probably go back to the Original Mattress Factory and get my side's mattress the same firm one I have now and he can have a soft cushy one for his side.
Good luck!

freecharlie and SweetieBugs , I will definitely post a new thread about the Saatva when we get it! I am so excited about this one. I found out about it doing a Google search and reading reviews of mattresses here: www.sleeplikethedead.com/bed-mattress-review-home.htmlYou will see that Saatva is one of the few that rates over 80% customer satisfaction. Though so does Tempur-Pedic, and we hated that one plus paid over $4K for it. And I had a chat with Saatva yesterday, and every question I asked was answered in a way that made me want this mattress more. So we are giving it a whirl. Mattress Brand Ratings The chart below includes many of the more popular and / or widely available brands (in alphabetical order). Select a brand for detailed ratings. Mattress Brand Owner SatisfactionBed in a Box: 83% Casper: 80% iComfort: 74% Ghostbed: 80% Helix: 81% Ikea: 75% King Koil: 65% Kingsdown: 65% Leesa: 78% Loom & Leaf: 81% Purple: 79% Saatva: 81% Sealy Posturepedic: 65% Serta Perfect Sleeper: 65% Signature Sleep: 76% Simmons Beautyrest: 63% Sleep Innovations: 76% Sleep Number: 77% Stearns & Foster: 60% Tempur-Pedic: 81% Tuft & Needle: 79% Zinus: 76% And likescarrots , I am tired of spending hours going to stores, laying on many, many different mattresses for 5 minutes, getting confused, and not getting a true feel for how we would like the mattress or not. Hubby and I have wasted afternoon after afternoon in the past, and we won't do it anymore. It's proved to be so wrong plus the markup on the mattresses is insane! This is one product that does not mean it's better if you pay more. We loved the process when we ordered the Purple Mattress and now the Saatva mattress. Super simple. Order online, arrives to our home, we try it, and if we don't like it they have someone pick it up for free and we get a refund. Easy, easy, easy. And on another note, the older we get, the harder it is to find a mattress. When we were younger, it was simple, and we really didn't care what we slept on. Now in our 50s, it's harder with aching joints and bad backs.

are you a back sleeper? I was having an aching back every single day, but once I got a small pillow to put under my knees (back sleeper mostly), my back pain was reduced by probably 75%. It might not be the mattress but the bend in your lower back! I have a big butt so that is hard on my lower back!

So sorry the Purple didn't work out for you, but glad you liked the "shopping" process. I absolutely agree with you that the only way to know is to sleep on it. Bummer that it was a thumbs down on the purple for you though. Hope the Saatva is better!
If you hate foam, this may not be the solution, but as you mentioned it being harder as you get older - have you considered an adjustable base? It's the only thing that works for DH. We bought ours through Costco so we could return with no penalty if we hated it (they will come pick up). Joined Costco just for that! They are crazy expensive but the only thing that helps his back... and he is 33 and in great shape! Yikes.
He slept on a zero gravity wedge pillow system for over a year before we got the bases - I think that was around $200-$300.

I have been using a pillow under my knees for years. I actually sleep with 4 pillows--under the knees, one at each side, and one under the head! And AN, hubby does not want an adjustable base. I would love to try one but looks like we won't be doing that. I just hope the Saatva is amazing! I do sleep fine on hotel mattresses. We just stayed at The Inn on Biltmore, and that mattress seems similar to what we just ordered. I slept amazing and felt amazing in the morning.

I'm so sorry it didn't work. I've had my Sleep Number adjustable bed for a month and I have to say I love it. The back pain is all but gone. I am sleeping thru the night and wake up refreshed. Wishing you the best with this mattress

Oh Patter I'm so sorry. I was going to post on my one month anniversary of my Purple on how much I love it. I sleep like the dead. Wake up with no back pain. I used to wake up hunched over and have to walk around for a couple of minutes to straighten my back out.
I love my Purple to the moon and back but I honestly think the power base is the reason why. That antigravity setting with the head and feet raised is amazing. I feel like I'm cocooned in this mattress and fall asleep immediately.
I'm a side sleeper mostly. When I lay on the Purple flat, it's comfortable, I like it but when I hit that remote button and the base starts to rise, well it's a whole different experience.
I really hope your new mattress works for you. It's amazing what a good night's sleep can do for your well-being. If I would have had this mattress 5 years ago, I probably wouldn't have near the back issues I have now.

We have a Saatva and LOVE it. We had a memory foam before this which my husband really liked but I did not. I found it too hard? I guess...I'm a side sleeper and my hips ached. Sometimes my hips would hurt so much it would wake me in the night! The Saatva was a perfect compromise for us. Firm enough for him but with enough give for me!

They are still throbbing right now from last night on the Purple. I can't wait for the Saatva to get here. Which one did you get? We got the Luxury Firm. Hoping it will be a great compromise for both of us.

Update 3/26/17Well, after almost 55 days, we are returning the mattress. I wanted to love it so badly but I ache every.single.morning. Hubby and I have decided that any mattress with memory foam just does not work for me. So, we are now trying a Saatva. It will be delivered in 9-18 days. Saatva has a 120 day trial policy with a very easy return also so we will see how it goes. Praying the Saatva is our answer! OPOur Purple mattress arrived yesterday. I was running errands, and as I got home, I noticed the FedEx man in my driveway. I parked in the culdesac and said "You have my mattress." He asked me where I wanted it, and he was able to drop it in the front door. He couldn't bring it in but kind of "dropped it in" for me which was helpful. I then got it to the bedroom until hubby came home. We got it on the bed, and I didn't wake up with a throbbing back this morning! Yes!! Hubby seems to like it too. It seems amazing. We had a $4K+ Tempurpedic that we got just a 1 1/2 years ago, and never, ever again. We thought for $1K why not try it for 100 days. Easy peasy. linda~lou has ordered one too so I can't wait to hear her feedback. So first night down and happy! The purple sample is too fun. Even one of my daughters said it's like a stress reliever just to play with it and squish it. She thought our Tempurpedic felt like laying on steel. She LOVED the Purple mattress when she tried it out last night. So if you are considering it, so far our review is a happy one. I'm sorry that it didn't work for you! I can't use memory foam either - it makes me ache too. I will look forward to your review of Saatva - we are thinking of going that route for our next mattress.

I do sleep fine on hotel mattresses. We just stayed at The Inn on Biltmore, and that mattress seems similar to what we just ordered. I slept amazing and felt amazing in the morning. DH and I were on a mini-vacation a couple of years ago and slept on a mattress that we both felt great when we woke up. We got all the information off of the tag and found a place that sold them and went and bought it. It turns out it was a Sealy mattress but one of the less expensive ones! DH has neck problems from a work accident and I have degenerative disc disease. Our previous mattress was a Tempurpedic with a pillow top which we paid big money for and we both hurt so bad in the mornings! Getting out of bed was not fun and it took a while to get the stiffness worked out of my muscles. And that mattress didn't hold up well at all. This mattress has held up well and since it was less expensive, we can afford to replace it sooner anyway. Before we slept on that bed on our vacation, I thought softer was better but I found that the firmer mattress allows me to have less stiffness in my joints (who'd of thought!). Not everyone is the same though. I hope you find a mattress that you like soon!

Well- our Purple came yesterday. What an experience wrestling it onto our bed! DH did not want to get the power base, so just using our old box spring/platform. 1st night review- DH said he felt the same as always. I woke up with slightly less pain in shoulders, less pain in back & noticeably less pain in hips. We'll see if this continues & I will keep you posted.I am wondering about my pillow also....

Praying it works out for you! I felt great the first few nights then went downhill from there. Hopefully that will not be your case. Also, be aware. If you want to return it, the return and receipt of the donation place all needs to be BACK to Purple by the 100th night or you don't get a refund. I hope someone will take it as I think with bed bugs being so prevalent in the world today that places may not want it. Purple will help me find a place if I don't.

I love reading all the mattress threads here, I find out about brands I never would have known about. I bought the mypillow, just ordered a casper pillow (which by the way the brand will be available at target next month), but am debating if I should try the Purple pillow but its such a weird concept?

I have a Purple mattress and powerbase which I absolutely love. It's been a couple of months and it gets more comfortable all the time. The powerbase is a must have. Sleeping using the anti gravity setting where your head and feet are raised for less pressure on your spine and back has been a godsend. So I bit the bullet and got the bed pillow. It ain't cheap, but oh my, worth every penny. The whole pillow is made of that gel plus it has a blow up baffle type thing that you can adjust to a higher thickness. It's completely separate so if pillow is thick enough, you don't have to use it. It's all enclosed in a really nice zipper case. I do use the baffle but just blow it up maybe less than a inch. It's heavy as hell!! But oh my gosh, it is heavenly. I'll not need a new pillow for years!

Going to revive this thread to ask a question...
Will the powerbase from one company work with the powerbase from another? The powerbases are not returnable so was wondering what happens if we don't like the mattress
