How does everyone organize all our pretties?
By color? type? by type then color? another way?
What containers have worked/not worked for you? What ways/systems have worked not worked for you?
Discuss.
I will be back later, we have two activities back to back, so leave me something to read when I get home and crash out on the couch LOL!

nothing really works for me. I have all kinds of boxes, organizers, trays, carts, I can never find anything. I just muck around until I find something I like.

I sort by type.
Stickers are all together, and sorted in subcategories by theme.
Enamel dots together.
Alpha stickers, including Thickers, all together.
Flowers in a jar together.
Sequins all mixed together in a jar.
Stickles all in a plastic bowl together.

I keep my enamel dots on binder rings. Same with bling.
Sequins I store in divided containers same with wood veneer.
Die cuts I store in the iris photo containers.
Stickers I store either on a clip it up or in a jewelry tray.
I'll post some pics in a bit when I can pry my butt off the couch lol.

I have a variety of containers on open and closed shelves. I try to keep type of embellishments together (wood veneer, cb diecuts, flowers, etc) but I also store items from a collection or kit together with the related papers & stickers.
I started out with plastic carts with drawers in them, and when I moved to built in shelving, I repurposed some of those drawers as containers on shelves and then subdivided them to keep different themes or colours separate.
I use a number of CTMH cases. They house stamp sets, but also inks, and PL cards, and paints, and stains. I like them because they are basically grab & go, so I can use them on my storage shelves, or just pick up by the handle and head off to a crop. I also love the sewing notions tote I picked up years ago. I have eyelets and brads and other metal items sorted by theme and colour into little bead trays that fit into that tote perfectly.
Most of my letter sticker sheets are "filed" on my counter top. The rest of the sticker sheets are with their collection. Every once in a while I pull them out and sort them by colour, but the rest of the time I leaf through them until I find what I am looking for.
Some days, I can just open a door, reach for a large or small tub, and put my fingers on the exact embellishment I need for this project. Other days, not so much. I may have stored that really cool set of cb banners with Birthday stuff, or kraft coloured stuff, or cb, or...
Good question. Looking forward to all the answers.

I am a color person. I have the Michaels 3 drawer units, 4 of them, with a drawer for each color. I have buttons, sequins, enamel dots, bling, sticles, stamp pads, fibre, ribbon, you name it, in each drawer. That works for me.

Thanks, canadianscrappergirl for all the photos! What size is the container you have your wood veneer pieces in? And where did you get it? It looks like a larger version of the bead/sewing notions covered trays I have, but besides being full of other stuff, I don't think they would be large enough for my wood veneer.

It's 10.5 long x 7 inches wide and I got them from the jewelry section at Michaels!

canadianscrappergirl , love the photos. You are quite organized. I sort by type for most things. All alpha stickers in one cube holder, all flowers in another, all naked chipboard in another, doilies and rub-ons in another. Small embellishments are kept sorted by type or color in those tool caddy things for pegboards. I have some jetmax drawers that keep stickers, and other styled embellishments. Hearts, stars and butterflies each get their own drawer. I have another unit for PL styled cards that I separate the cards by size and orientation. www.flickr.com/photos/8826873@N02/shares/0800Y9

I store by type. Most of my embellishments I have on my clip it up on the corner of my disk. I made some holders for washi tape (out of old cotton reels and dowels) and they also stand on my desk. I also have a few embellishments that I put into page kits so I have a bunch of supplies to work with.

I have my smaller embellishments like brads and snaps and what not stored by color in boxes called Sortables by Making Memories. I have no ribbons or flowers. I store all stickers on my clip it up. My chipboard pieces are stored in plastic photo boxes. My larger embellishments I have stored in a 12x12 flat case with removable walls to make bigger compartments by ArtBin called the Super Satchel. Those are some of the things I can think go at the moment.

That's been my system for awhile too, but I haven't been mucking deep enough, so there's a whole lot of stuff I haven't used because I forget it's there.

I store most embellishments by type/material (wood, rubber, etc) in divided plastic containers, but die-cuts and chipboard are often with the line of paper or kit if I have it. Alphas have their own box.

I keep my wood veneer in the plastic container from Michael's. It is the only one with the brand of Everything Mary. It is the perfect size with movable slots. It sells for $8.99. I also keep my washi tape in several of them.

Mostly by color but sometimes by type. Just about everything except sequins and enamel dots are by color. Which I really like since I don't get stuck on not having the 'right' size/shape/shade of an embellishment. If I wanted a button and don't have the right one, I might find something else that will work instead.
My sequins are separate just because of the container they are in. Enamel dots are separate because they are on my desk and usually come in multi colors per pack.

I too use the @elaynef system! I have one of the tall skinny Alex drawer sets from Ikea and I have tried my best to sort within the drawers, one for washi, one for wood veneer, one for extra adhesives, etc. Those three drawers are manageable..the others are a mess of miscellaneous embellishments where I couldn't decide whether to sort by embellishment type, or collection, and appear to have changed my mind several times in between. On top of that, I have the assortment of boxes, bags, baskets, iris containers, all with their fair share of goodies. Further, I can't seem to decide whether to store embellishments with the paper collections or separate, so some are spread onto my paper shelves as well. Needless to say, it's a mess.

I organize my embellishments in Iris cases by theme. This would be stickers, chipboard stickers, journaling cards, whatever has a theme.
Non-themed items like enamel dots, washi, wood veneer, brads, buttons, etc. are all kept together. by type. I have clear plastic boxes for these things. I also have a great 1940's vintage cabinet that once held office forms. It has 9"x12" drawers. I keep tons in there.

Awesome! I loved reading all the replys! Thank you ladies. Our first event was so overwhelming we bailed on the second. DH and I are both battling headache/migraines which were exasperated by attending a bowling party for a 4 year old (3 hours long!). Can you pass the Advil? OUCH! Anyway I organize stickers/etc by them, in containers from walmart. I have three containers and will NOT get more. One is boy/girl/family. One is brads/flair/bulky and one is for Bmx/seasons/holidays/calendar/labels. I recently took all my bits and pieces/diecuts and bought a five drawer container from Michaels and sorted every.single.piece by COLOR. I NEVER EVER thought I would do color (they were previously stored in the iris photo cases like above) but since doing it I have used WAY more than before. I have red/pink/purple, blue/green, orange/yellow, black/white/brown, and then multicolored. It has worked fabulously for me so far. Washi is stored by color in a k cup (I think) holder right next to me. Enamel everything is by dots, then color, shapes then basic colors in a bin I store in a cubby at my desk since I use them on every layout. Wood veneers are stored in these from Harbor Freight, they work great for me. Sequins by color in these from Michaels. I LOVE that only ONE compartment opens at a time and you have to push the sides of the end and the compartment you want. NO spilling or slipping around! flowers are by color in iris photo containers (from when I switched die cuts over) but I still don't use them OOPS! Chipboard (bare) is just thrown in a plastic bin. I never use it but the kids do. So I store mostly by type then color.

My scrap space is in my Living Room. Things need to be put away. I have a wicker basket with a lid. Inside I have gallon storage bags sorted by ROYGBIV with pink, white, black, gray, and tan at the back. Those are generic embellishments. Smaller themed embellishments are stored in gallon storage bags in my expedit in a basket. If I have a lot of one theme, those embellishments are stored in Iris cases.
It works fine for me. I'm more of a paper and die cut scrapper, so I have to really remind myself to use those embellishments. I need to have them separated out or I know I'd get frustrated with having too many things together.
When I scrap, I tend to think in terms of color rather than type. If there's a blank space that needs something, I think I need to add red, yellow, blue, or whatever color to that space. I also look at the size of the space. Like adding a bigger embellishment like a tag or brads or enamel dots for something small.

refugeepea I use one end of our LR, too. I purchased an armoire years ago. That is where I store my paper and photos. The paper is stored vertically in 12x12 envelopes from Hobby Lobby and Michaels. My IKEA table is behind the sofa, so I can leave things out on it. My kids are grown and gone, so that is not a concern. I do try to buy pretty containers.

The short answer is I tend to first sort by type. After that, I then sort by color if possible. That accounts for about half of my embellishments. The rest is still by type but with little to no sorting. For example, all of my bling is tossed into one of two drawers (labeled bling and big bling). Small random embellishments are simply sorted by color into a large case that has those 4x6 photo boxes. If I can get my room cleaned up, I need to do another room tour on my blog. The one that's up is from 2012!
