I'm so happy for you that her recovery is going well and that she's ready to phase back into school. I know this has been a difficult journey for her and your entire family. Hopefully, she will be able to put all of this behind her as a learning experience and enjoy her life.

Thanks for asking.
She is still plugging along, some days are good, some days are not. Transitioning back into school has been a bit difficult. On Tuesday she only lasted for two classes and had me come and get her. She got into the car and burst into tears. She said that she is just so sad but doesn't know why. For the rest of the day she slept and cried. That was not a good day.
Yesterday she did great though, she made it to all her classes. She had a bit more energy. She wanted to go get a couple things at Target and actually wasn't exhausted after all of that.
Today she seems a little more low energy.
We just take it day by day and do what she feels like she can do.
She had an appointment with the cardiologist earlier this week. He said she is right on schedule for healing and that it takes a long time. He said that a lot of her fatigue is caused by one of the medications that she is on. Unfortunately he can't take her off of it or even cut it back. The benefits of it are more important than the side effects that she is experiencing.
She goes back to see him in 4 weeks and at that time he is going to have her get a CT scan (I think that is what it is) to view her artery and blood vessels. At that time it will be 9 or 10 weeks since the incident and he said he would be able to tell how the healing is going.
So for now she is still not to do any activity besides walking and not to do an abundance of that. Basically he wants her to do the bare minimum.
Thank you for all of your support, it really means a lot.

(((hugs))) The Birdhouse Lady I'm glad that she's starting to be able to attend school and maybe do a few more things. I have a 17yo DD also and I can't even imagine how scary this is/was for you and her. Will her heart heal back to 100% in time?

We were told that once you have a heart attack you are at a greater risk for another. Doesn't mean it WILL happen, it just means it COULD happen.

glad to read your update, that your daughter is starting to go back to school. I know for me, it would be really difficult to adjust to changes like that, with side effects from the medication on top of it. Is she seeing a counselor?? Perhaps talking to someone objective / impartial would help her to figure out how to handle the emotions she's having about the whole experience. I would think the cardiologist (or a hospital advocate, someone else...) *might* be able to recommend a counselor that has experience in working with patients who have had major health changes. Maybe? Having her see someone professional might also help you, too... I know you love her as her mom, but it's got to be tough on you to be her 'counselor' as well; someone impartial might take some of that burden off of you.
(I hope I didn't offend you with what I wrote; I'm only going off of how beneficial talking to an impartial counselor has been for ME in the past.)

Thanks for the update. We are all pulling for your daughter! I have a 17 yr. old too, and I can't imagine that happening to someone so young. I hope she continues to improve and feels better each day.

I have thought having her talk to someone would be helpful. I don't know if SHE would be onboard for that. I would want someone who has dealt with teens and knows how to talk to them as well as someone who is familiar with heart issues and the territory that goes with the aftermath of a heart attack. I do have the number of a nurse practitioner that was super helpful while she was in the hospital. I have thought about calling her for advice but I haven't done it.

I'm so glad Kaitlyn is doing better. I know it's not the same, but I've been disabled since birth, and I expect that some of her emotional reaction is grief. She is grieving for what is lost, being fit, being able to run, being the girl she was, the future she thought she had. Over the years as each health issue took away a little of my mobility I felt like that. After major surgery two years ago I'm about 50% of what I was 10 years ago, and that makes me wonder what the future holds. The good news is that it does get better. You adjust, you find people who forget about your limitations and see only what you can do. Yes, there's people who will be mean, leave her out of things, but there will also be those who don't. You find new ways of living within your means. I have dark days; today is one because I made cards yesterday (only 3 of them) and today I am so full of pain I can hardly move! It's not easy, always pulling yourself up, but you do it and I'm sure Kaitlyn will too. After all she's got you supporting her - my Mum is my greatest supporter.. Oh, and my husband too, mustn't forget him!

So pleased things are moving in the right direction, albeit slowly. It's probably on her and your mind a lot of the time. Such a shame someone of her age needs to be so wary of doing anything. Her cadiologist sounds like a good guy.

Thanks for the update! I'm happy to hear she's better in some ways and has a sweet boyfriend. I'm sure that picks her spirits up quite a bit.
I want to give a shout out to Mayo Clinic! They saved my life and are 100% awesome in every aspect! You can go there knowing she will get the best possible care with the best team of doctors. My DH put me in the car and traveled 9 hours straight to get me to Mayo clinic in Florida after I was given about 2 weeks to live. I actually went into cardiac arrest just as he was pulling into the ER. They came out to the car and was able to revive me there. I went straight into ICU where they not only starting piecing together everything that was wrong, but started treatment plans immediately. I saw a whole team of doctors that covered me from head to foot 3 times a day. Some times they would come in at different times, but I knew that every morning and every evening that team of doctors met in a conference room and went over my case. Not only did they save my life, but gave me quality of life back that we thought was lost forever. Their treatments were hard, but worked and slowly got me back to a whole person again. I am now 3 years out and back to a full time job, with all my mom and wife duties. I'm slower and do have residual effects, but when you compare then to now, it's amazing.
