According to DH I'm the only person that finds it disrespectful and inappropriate to wear swimwear when you're not at the beach or the pool. I'll give you the parking lot of the beach or pool, the backyard if you have a pool, heck your own house if you have a pool.
I don't have a pool and don't live particularly close to the beach. My nephew came in here today sans shirt and my niece was in a tied off t-shirt and bikini bottoms. I think it's inappropriate. Yes, they were on the way to the beach and it's hot out, but not hot enough to be half naked in my house.

Well, I would typically agree with you, but we did take DD to the park last week after swim practice and she was still in her suit...she did have a cover-up on, though.

I would be fine with the situation. Family on the way to the beach wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest.
I don't like to see swimwear in the grocery store or at restaurants. Just bugs me.

Let me just say it is NOT appropriate at the bank. Lol. Witnessed that yesterday. Not pretty either!

I agree that since they were on their way to the beach, it was ok. I wouldn't want them wearing them to a family bbq or something like that though unless of course, it involved swimming.

I'm in 100% agreement with you Christine. Pool, Pool deck, Splash pad, Water park, Beach, Parking lot of either of those or your back yard. That is all. IMO, anywhere else is inappropriate, at any age.

I live at the beach in a heavy touristy area. I don't mind seeing someone in swim wear with a cover at the grocery store or wal mart because it is usually a tourist. I myself have had to run into one of those places either on my way to/from the beach. But I do have my cover up on. Now the mall or a restaurant warrant clothes IMO.

I wouldn't have had a problem with them stopping by my house on their way to the beach. But honestly, I think swim wear needs to stay at the beach or the pool. Not out in public.

Pool, beach, waterpark, at home... Boys? Anywhere, they look like shorts Girls? I think at least a pair of shorts unless you are actually at the water area or sun bathing.

My neighbor (about 60ish) and very full figured wears hers to work around her yard. She was bent over with her backside facing our house doing her weeding this morning when I happened to look out the window.
And they don't have a pool. She just likes to be in her bathing suit, I guess.

We always wear cover ups that look like summer dresses. But we usually go to the pool and straight back home. When we were on vacation, we did go to eat a few times and to putt putt golf once in our cover ups... but we were at a beach/touristy town, so we saw a lot of people doing the same.

I live at the lake and have a pool and won't wear mine around unless I am actually swimming or in the boat. I probably wouldn't have a problem with someone on their way to the beach, especially if they are young. I do have a problem with people wearing them in the grocery store or restaurant. Even the restaurants on the lake require a coverup if you eat inside.

I have to admit I am a real beotch and will comment to DSO if I see someone outside a pool or beach or a backyard with others in swimwear. I am judgmental that way. I have lots of bikinis. They are pretty and look good on. In DSO's hot tub or at the beach only. ONLY. I hate swimming pools.
Saunas are fine too.

Beach towns are notorious for this.
If it's a tankini top, I don't mind it with a cover-up skirt or something. I don't like bikini tops or topless men in restaurants or gas stations for example. Too much skin.

I have a pool and wear a cover up to walk from my house to the pool- so I guess I really don't think anywhere is appropriate! LOL

I stopped at the farmers market with my 6 year old on our way back from the pool with friends the other day. I had on my suit and a cotton dress over it, she had on her suit and a tunic length cover up. We both had pool hair because we didn't shower there. I didn't think anything of it until now. I'm still not bothered by how we looked though.
I wouldn't have taken her to a restaurant or the mall, but the very casual outdoor market, I wasn't worried about that.

Only *at* the beach or pool. Not driving to, not stopping on the way. They should dress the way they would any other time they are visiting you.

Not a kitchen tour of a cruise. I swear there were 2 or 3 women in bathing suits and cover ups on a kitchen tour of our cruise, I was pretty appalled. My mil joked with me afterwards that clearly we were over dressed for the occasion...and these folks were clearly retirees so its not like it was young kids who shouldhave known better and it was something you had to book in advance so its not like they joined on their way back from the pool!

I wouldn't care if they were on their way to the beach or pool. Most coverups look like sundresses anyway so if I am going out anywhere in my suit I throw one on. But we live on a river and spend days at a time in swimwear.

I lived in beach towns near San Diego for 15 years. I got used to seeing swimsuits in non swimsuit locations. Tourists would shop on their way to/from the beach. I only really minded in restaurants (unless they were right on the beach and more like snack bars.)
if we're sitting in real chairs, indoors, eating a meal, I don't want to be sitting near damp, sandy/sweaty/chlorine smelling people.

I use to work at a deli in a grocery store for extra income and a employee came walking in (her day off) in a thong and bikini top. Nothing else..at.all. She was very large chested and honestly had a body of a 20yr old..she is in her 40s i believe. We all just stood there though with our mouths open. Just wasn't something you see everyday at the local grocery store

I live in tourist central... I see swimwear everywhere, all year long! At Target, the grocery store, the mall, Panera, you name it, we see it! Usually it's either a bathing suit under a cover up or a guy with swim trunks and a tshirt, but it's pretty much the norm here, especially this time of year.
For the record, I only wear my suit at/on the way to the beach, pool, or water park!

I grew up in Southern California and everyone I knew had a pool in their backyard. We lived in the summer in our swim suits and flip flops (we called them thongs, which means something altogether different now). I could not care less if someone wears a swimsuit wherever they feel comfortable. But then again, I don't have a problem with people wearing sweatpants to the grocery store sans makeup.

Although, the only time I see someone in swimwear outside those areas, is when we're on vacation in Spain or Greece. No one's stupid enough to do it here, the cold would kill them(or at least make it extremely uncomfortable).

I am normally pretty easy going about attire for day to day - I'm fine with dropping the kids off in PJ pants, sweats at the grocery store, etc. I draw the line at swimwear. That said, in this case, where they are on the way to the beach, I wouldn't have an issue with it. I also wouldn't be bothered by it outside, at say, a park/the farmer's market, etc, post trip to the beach/pool.
Even though I get it, I'm still a bit bugged by the double standard that says it's more acceptable for men because their swim trunks just look like shorts (assuming they aren't one of the 10% or so I still see wearing Speedos around our beaches).

Personally I would not have had a problem with my niece and nephew coming to my house in their swim wear, especially if they were on their way to the beach.
I think it's inappropriate at a shopping mall or restaurant etc but fine at a private dwelling. Especially for kids.

I live in a beach area and I hate to see women wandering around in skimpy bikinis in bars etc but what really gets my goat is middle aged, and older men, thinking its fine to be topless every where!!!! Several of our local supermarkets now have to have signs on the doors requesting cover ups!

I would say: your own house, the pool, the beach, the waterpark, rivers, lakes, and any time you are on the way to any of those places with an appropriate cover-up.
I don't care if you are wearing your swimsuit other places, just throw on a tank top and shorts or something!
