Well, the biopsy shows that the cancer has spread from the pancreas to the liver. This is considered stage 4 and there is no cure. No surgery to take out the tumor.
The plan right now is to have a port installed on the 20th and start chemo on the 23rd. We are going to start with the combination that has the fewest side effects to try to get me through my son coming home from deployment and to get me through the end of the school year if possible. Once school is out we may switch to the one with worse side effects.
We are doing some research about clinical trials because some require that you have had no chemo. I am not too sure about going this route.
I am pretty numb right now. Talking to my youngest son on the phone and hearing him crying just about broke my heart. I had to send a message to my deployed son because he was asleep by the time I got finished with my appointment. I now have to tell my brothers and my mother tonight. I am waiting until after dinner to get those calls started.
This was a rough weekend for me. I had to go to the doctor 3 times this weekend due to asthma issues. I got no sleep at all last night.
The oncologist prescribed some enzyme pills to help with the "oil slick in the toilet" when I poop. This should help my quality of life to stop that. Unfortunately, CVS did not have these pills in stock, so I will have to wait until tomorrow to get them. He also gave me some pain meds. I am having a lot of back pain due to the tumor pressing on nerves. I have to try them out at night first to see how I handle them.
Worst case scenario if I don't respond to treatment is 4-6 months. There is only a 1% chance of 5 year survival.
I have been so thankful to have you all to talk to through all of this.
