it strikes me that he could still be unfamiliar with the protocol. No there was a thread here when he over dominated a hand shake with another leader in the same room and chairs. He knows what he's supposed to do. He could see out the corner of his eye that she leaned in and said something to him.

His base likes that he did that and dislikes Merkel.
Day after day I keep reminding myself that people who supported someone who brags that he grabs pussy will support anything.

He's a creep and his jerkitude is dangerous.
But he didn't get to this place alone. I worry there are worse events to come while we focus on this uncouth being. We need to keep identifying the forces behind him that led to his election. Those in power that got him on the ticket...
I don't pretend to know if those powers that be are Russian, Breitbart, or others. But it's starting to eat at me that somethimg else is out there.
Or I've read too many modern espionage novels, it's just as surreal.

You can (and should if you're a prominent world leader) still behave with basic good manners despite disliking someone. But ignoring her and not even making eye contact was peurile.

Twitter is giving me some good laughs. Which we need since we are all doomed under this idiot.
My faves: If Trump were German his name would be Tiny Hans.
Angela Merkel has a PhD in Quantam Chemistry. Trump misspelled the word tap. Not exactly a meeting of the minds.

There is no better way to get disparate entities to pull together than to have a common cause....he's providing it!!
Others within the Union may not like Merkel, but I bet they will stand by her against the person they (and the rest of the world) already perceive to be an uneducated (with regard to at least the basics of diplomacy) and weak leader.
I honestly can not see why the party is not reigning him in more effectively - surely the entire Republican party can not be this ineffectual?

I've watched a few of the clips. I'm not sure it was intentional. It's really loud in the room. Lots of cameras clicking, shouting, and photographers being thanked out of the room. Trump looks a bit adaze toward the end. I'm no fan of his, but it strikes me that he could still be unfamiliar with the protocol. The man is the President of the United States. It is his job to be familiar with the protocol, and if he still isn't he needs to do so ASAP.No Not only that, but he HAS had other world leaders come to the WH and hasn't had an issue remembering to shake hands. On top of that, Ms. Merckel leaned over and ASKED him if he wanted to shake and he blatantly IGNORED her. Nope. He's an ass.

I'm really really shocked that the Republican Party is so ok with all the Russia stuff. I'm guessing they won't come down from their 'we won so deal with it neener neener neener power play' and DO anything until Trump erodes THEIR power. We can only pray that's not too late.

I honestly can not see why the party is not reigning him in more effectively - surely the entire Republican party can not be this ineffectual? This is what I can't understand. Change in Washington comes very, very slowly because there are so many people who have their hands in things. Any president who wanted to make changes had to work with his own party, at least; and, often with some members of the opposing party. Trump seems to be able to steamroll everyone, and no one in the Republican Party seems able or willing to reign him in some. Politicians are like chess players. They are always making today's decisions based on what their objective is for months or years down the line, and I can't understand what the Republicans' objective is with letting Trump behave like this.

Add rebuking Germany for not paying their fair share to NATO, and he also pointed out that Germany's acceptance of immigrants was a mistake. I don't even know if we have an idea of diplomacy today. Tillerson's insults to North and South Korea along with presidential insults - what a day! The only thing he's done right for me is saying to Merkel what no one else has had the guts to say ( certainly not our leaders!) . I agree he needs to learn diplomatic skills - but I don't suppose there is a way of saying that diplomatically !

From WaPo:
"Security experts quickly attacked the flaws in Trump’s logic. On Twitter, former U.S. ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder wrote that increased defense budgets by Germany aren’t transferred to the United States. He also pointed out that NATO decided to make the 2 percent requirement mandatory just a couple of years ago. The alliance gave all member states until 2024 to reach that goal, and Germany is on track.
“Trump’s comments misrepresent the way NATO functions,” Daalder told us. “The President keeps saying that we need to be paid by the Europeans for the fact that we have troops in Europe or provide defense there. But that’s not how it works.”

It seems to be a mix of conservatives who still support Trump, people who loathe Trump, and people who are nervous about him. That's my best guess right now based on what I'm reading. I do believe that his budget will run into trouble in the Senate.

Tillerson's insults to North and South Korea along with presidential insults - what a day! Germany should be paying their fair share as should every other member nation. Merkel already admitted that Germany was unprepared for almost 1 million immigrants and has said she would tighten up on the number allowed in. Of course she wants to win another term so how could she not make that promise. Just how did he insult South Korea? North Korea he can insult all day long as far as I'm concerned. That country deserves no respect form the US. Why is it okay to insult North Korea? Honestly, it seems to me that given the instability and petulance of their leader, the LEAST smartest thing to do would be provoking them by insulting them. Its especially important to be diplomatic with people like that. Kind of like other countries are treating Trump, come to think of it.

I honestly can not see why the party is not reigning him in more effectively - surely the entire Republican party can not be this ineffectual? I think that the Republican Party is happy for him to keep carrying on like this, because it provides a smokescreen for what they are doing in the congress. While we are all talking about his tweets and bad behaviour and frequent golf trip, they are able to pass legislation without the scrutiny it might otherwise get.
