Someone asked for reviews on it and went to Joann's to buy it and was told they can't sell it because it is being recalled. Said they called their customer service line and confirmed it. Anyone know why and what is going on?

Hmm, well it seems to be missing from the JoAnn and Michael's websites. I know for sure it was on the JoAnn website so perhaps it has been recalled. It's also not listed on the Hampton Arts website. The plot thickens...

I know there was talk about the noise the hinges made on some of these if I'm not mistaken. I'd be surprised if they did a recall just for squeaky sound though... But who knows?

The hinge on mine doesn't stay in the same spot...it wiggles a mm or 2 and that means you can't stamp a second time in the same place unless you know the lid didn't wiggle. Found that out the hard way...not something I thought about. I have 2...so if they've been recalled, I'd like to know HOW to return them since they are clearly defective in terms of what I view as it's primary function: restamping badly stamped images.

I got my stamp perfect at HL half price. The hinges a little loose, but I haven't had an issue yet. My main stamper is my Letterpress, but I use my Stamp Perfect in my production runs. Stamp card face with LP and card back w/SP.

I have both sizes of the Hampton Art press, and they both work just fine. Maybe I got lucky.

That stinks I'm glad I bought the other brand but it was just a matter of luck. I hope everyone that needs a replacement can get one.

I read that the owner of the MISTI was granted a patent. Perhaps she has threatened legal actions against them.

Pretty sure that she got the patent. I also read that the Tim Holtz copy is also affected.

Can someone provide a link to an online source that tells about the Misti getting a patent? I am just curious.
This might explain why recently I keep receiving emails from different online sources with different brands of the stamp positioners drastically reduced in price. One email today states, "Fine Print: All Sales on these are final. This version of these items will not be sold in the U.S. any longer."
Also, where does it discuss online that the Tim Holtz brand is affected? I am wanting to purchase one of those.

Hmm interesting. Maybe that's why. I still can't believe she got a patent though.

I'm sure this type of press exists for all sorts of other processes...it's pretty lame, though. I love the look of the TH one and hope that it is at least released (even if at a steep discount just to get rid of the inventory).

I don't believe the MISTI is patented. There is/was a patent pending, and it can be renewed for several years, for a fee. After making my own, and telling others how easy it was to make it, I got a lot of barking, no bites. The MISTI is a sort of dressed dressed up version of one made in England.

It's trademarked, but I doubt it's got anything more than a provisional patent, if that.

I'm dying to know if the Tonic/Tim Holtz platform will truly be affected/not sold. Does anyone have the skinny on that? I've been using a cracked Misti and have been so excited for this one. Their products are so sturdy with great support/service, and Tim's detail and innovations have me completely sold. I'll be extremely disappointed if we can't get our hands on it.

Ugh, I hope it's not true! The Misti is so overpriced. That's why I never got one in the first place. I too would appreciate some links to these rumors.
I really want the Tim Holtz one. I can't believe that Tonic would invest in product development if they didn't do extensive research on the first. I'm crossing my fingers that Tim's becomes available for purchase soon.

I support the creator of the misti. I hope she wins. It sucks for inventors (little guys) to get their products/ideas stolen by the bigger companies. I think it's a shame they do that. I won't buy the other product just because it's cheaper. I've had no problem with my misti. She deserves the credit. I know good many of you guys don't like her for various reasons. I don't.

Maybe you've had no problems but many have. Not just people here but I've read about issues on lots of other boards and groups. I had to jump through hoops to get my cracked misti replaced and she was rude about it.

My Misti is a piece of crap. I've handled it with more care than you can imagine and it is cracked all over the place. I admit that it is a great tool, but the customer service offered by the creator and the very public legal threats put a bad taste in my mouth. I paid close to $100 for it and expected a lot more from it than I got. I have pre-ordered the new Tim Holtz one, not because of the price but because it looks to me like it is a solid piece of equipment. So with that being said, I hope she loses!

My Misti is the best thing I've bought for stamping. I don't really think it's that many people who had an issue with her, it's the same people being very vocal, over and over. I see the same people posting negative Misti comments about the product and the inventor on many boards, in two Facebook groups and also here. There was a concerted effort led by one of these people to bad mouth her and to copy her product first by someone in India. IMHO that was very mean spirited. There was also an effort to break or crack Mistis so that some of these people could get a free replacement. It was very dishonest, and because of that, I think she had to be very careful how she offered replacements.
I have a Misti that is two plus years old. I use it daily. I'm not careful with it, in fact, you might say I'm careless....and it works great to this day. I was gifted the Hampton arts knock off for Christmas, it's already broken. It's a flimsy piece of junk that didn't last more than a month. At least the magnets are ok.

I've done a lot of research and have never once seen where people were purposely breaking their misti. Can you post sources?
Also, there have been plenty of different people posting problems. Trust me-I have read tons on this. And it's not only the quality issues. I think most people know that startups have growing pains from time to time. It's the owner's attitude about the whole thing, not to mention her tantrum (that I saw with my own two eyes) on the facebook group she ran. And her threats of legal action to anyone who mentioned the misti in groups, videos, etc.

They know they can get away with that. It's just wrong IMHO That's what bugs me.
