I figure it's time I posted something light & fun, given all the posting I do about politics, or ranting re: passive aggressive grandmothers. I was at the Starbucks drive-thru a few days ago, getting a regular old mocha, and I noticed they now have these 'blonde' espresso drinks. What does that mean? Why are they calling them blonde? What is the difference between what I'm used to? If you've tried the blonde espresso drinks, what's the verdict? Same with the iced tea. I noticed an ad on my FB today for 'Iced WHITE tea lemonade.' Has anyone tried white tea? What is it? I do NOT like green tea, so when I want a cold drink and I'm being responsible & not getting a frapp, I'll get an iced black tea lemonade.

I got excited for a second, until I googled "What is White Iced Tea?" and I got this ... "Steep 4 white tea bags in 4 cups boiling water, then chill. Bring 1 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar to a boil, add tarragon, and steep until cool. Sweeten to taste with the resulting tarragon syrup, which will add a licorice note to the tea." ..... taragon? licorice? No thanks!

The peach green tea lemonade tastes like those peachy-o ring candies. I usually get an iced vanilla latte or a black tea lemonade.

Black, white, and green tea are basically all from the same plant, the leaves are just processed differently. Starbucks had a white blueberry tea several years ago that was delicious. I wish they'd put up more descriptors on how this one tastes, though. It's still on my list of stuff to try, but I usually am way more in the mood for coffee. And I'm guessing that blonde espresso just comes from lighter roasted beans so it's not so bitter, although I thought that kind of defeats the purpose of espresso.

Blonde espresso is simply the least roasted espresso. The flavour is more acidic but supposedly friendly for those who don't find dark roasts appealing.
White tea is young tea leaves that are processed the least.

Blonde espresso is simply the least roasted espresso. White tea is young tea leaves that are processed the least. Sounds like a half-step up from drinking water. Says the woman who makes her coffee at home with the darkest roast and adds espresso powder for a little extra depth and kick.

White teas are my favorite. They are very smooth. I order their Youth Berry hot tea when I go to Starbucks. I have not tried the white tea lemonade though.

I'm going to go try the white tea drink. I like white tea a lot, it's very mild and smooth, has a slightly grassy delicate tea flavor, no bitterness at all unless you overbrew it. It's supposedly very good for you too.

Does white tea have caffeine? Yes, but no more than black or green tea.

Have you tried Starbuck's green tea? It's not like "regular" green tea that you'd get at a Chinese restaurant. So good, especially Iced Peach Green Tea with Lemonade. mmmmmm I'm going to have to try the White tea lemonade sometime.

It's not one the ones you asked about, but I had a coconut milk mocha macchiato yesterday and it was delicious! I am non-dairy, so yay!

Starbucks Barista here!
White tea is sooooo gooooood! Very little caffeine (completely safe for pregnant women), it has the most antioxidants compared to other varieties. The flavor is very mild. I like it with half of the sweetener (we use liquid cane sugar to sweeten) and one pump of peach syrup. Or, half the sweetener and a scoop of either strawberries or blackberries, shaken. Peach is tops, though. If you've ever had Joy tea at Christmas time, it tastes close to that, but less strong.
Blonde espresso is a different roast. Someone above me nailed the description pretty well, that it is roasted less and has a brighter, more acidic flavor. If you like breakfast blends or coffee-shop blends of coffee, this is a good one to try! That being said, if you try it in your caramel macchiatto, you almost definitely will not notice it. The difference is only really noticeable if you drink just the shots, or an americano, or something that doesn't cover up the flavor too much. Pro-tip: the darker the roast, the less caffeine it has, so blonde roast (which is processed the least) is your best bet to maximize the pep in your morning cuppa. Same goes for the coffee.

Those iced teas you described sound delicious! Is the white tea a light green color? A car in front of me the other day got a very light colored iced drink with strawberries in it that looked really good. I was going to ask the barista what it was, but thought it might be too stalkerish. Lol

I was going to ask the barista what it was, but thought it might be too stalkerish. Lol No, you should definitely ask! If I had to guess, it was probably the strawberry acai refresher, since that's the drink that the strawberries are intended for. Try it flat or sparkling! There's lots of fun ways to customize that drink. You can try the "pink drink," which is strawberry acai refresher (SAR) with coconut milk instead of water. Or the Capri Sun, which is SAR with lemonade instead of water, and mango flavoring (caution because this drink is pretty sweet, so I like to do half SAR and half green tea base to cut some of the sugar). People are trying this new drink with half of a pink drink, and half of a green tea latte, and layering it... it's pretty but does not taste the best, imo. Everyone should be a barista at least once in their life.
