This is sort of a SO of the cold shoulder thread, but also a lot of other threads.
In the cold shoulder thread multiple peas said things along the lines of "I take pea fashion opinions with a grain of salt."
I've noticed that in any thread about new trends or current fashion, the peas poo poo everything. I don't think I've ever seen a thread where the peas liked a style.
So my question is
What DO the peas wear?
What do you wear on a daily basis? What is your style?
And some follow up questions to my big main question - Do you like fashion? Do you enjoy clothes? How much effort do you put into your outfits? Do you accessorize?

In the cold shoulder thread multiple peas said things along the lines of "I take pea fashion opinions with a grain of salt." Perhaps because this group is worldwide, with such a large variety of geographic areas, ages, and income types, there just isn't any one good answer to a question about something so personal as fashion?? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I mean, I don't personally like the 'cold shoulder' trend (BTW- that's a stupid name, in my opinion) but that's because in AZ, I'd get a really awkward-looking tan line if I was outside, and inside with the A/C, I'd freeze to death if I wore a top like that. I would call myself a 'classic' dresser most of the time; I avoid trends for the most part. In my day to day life, I wear business casual or casual clothes; my job doesn't require me to dress up. I like reading fashion magazines occasionally but I don't pay attention to 'fashion' or trends when putting together my own wardrobe, nor do I like spending a lot of $$ on clothes. I'm a thrift-store, estate-sale, consignment store clothing shopper. Because of that, my clothing tastes / likes can be pretty eclectic. And I'm at a point in my life where I don't care too much about 'fashion' or trends, or what other people think of my tastes in clothing.

During the week, I have somewhat of a uniform for work. I wear pants, typically the BR Sloan pant, plus a cute top and a blazer or cardigan. I always accessorize and my outfits are planned out for the week on Sunday.
After work, I'm wearing workout clothes which are also accessorized with a Sweatybands headband and matching shoes. On the weekends, I get dressed too and not in workout wear. Depending on the weather, I'm either in shorts or jeans and a nice top and shoes. I don't wear flip flops unless I'm in swimwear.
To answer your question, I would consider my style to be preppy/classic. I mainly shop at Nordstrom, BR, and JCrew if that tells you anything.
I love fashion and clothes!

I go between leggings with tunics, maxi dresses, jeans with a tank top and cardigan and fit and flare style dresses. I'm much more likely to buy solid colors over patterns, but I have recently bought two dresses and a blouse with a floral print.
I love clothes but I can only wear my nicer stuff on the weekends. I work in a manufacturing setting and while I no longer deal with the messy side of things, it is still a pretty casual office. Last week I wore a striped tunic, leggings, boots and a cardigan and got asked multiple times about my plans after work because I was overdressed. Everyone in my office wears jeans, t shirts and hoodies. The CEO interviewed me in shorts and his idea of dressing up is a button front short sleeved printed shirt.
Today I am wearing bright blue dyed jeans, a relaxed linen blend blouse that's white with a small blue pattern, ankle booties, and a simple Kate Spade initial necklace and I feel a little over done for my office, but would feel pretty casual for my weekend looks. I gravitate towards dresses on the weekends because they are an effortless way for me to feel more polished and more comfortable than jeans. A-line fit and flare dresses with spaghetti straps are my favorite.

I would say I'm a pretty classic dresser most of the time. I wear black or gray dress pants to work with some kind of dressy top and usually a cardigan. I am also loving Lularoe skirts with my tops and cardigans too. In the winter I pair things with black boots or booties. In the summer I tend to wear wedges or flats. I do not wear earrings as my ears are really too sensitive for them. I wear a small, clear nosering. And I do wear necklaces but my necklaces are usually small. I don't do chunky jewelry at all.

On a daily basis I wear trousers, blouse or knit top and cardigan, usually necklace and/or earrings, sometimes a jacket. If I am meeting with higher administration I wear a suit. I am walking around 6 out of 8 hours, shoes are functional and supportive. I never wear high heels and never wear dresses or skirts. I wear a variety of colors and patterns and accessories. I would not decribe myself as fashion forward, I dress right for the day although usually fairly simply and am not interested in trends or what people think I should wear. Dress code at my level is a step up from business casual but there is no need for a suit everyday, my teachers are mostly casual and as long as each person is clothed and clean I don't police my staff dress. Fashion is not important in my life although I do enjoy things that look and feel nice to wear.

I am a few weeks from age 60. I am overweight and short. I look terrible in everything.
I like many different fashions but not for me on me. I have a huge stomach so everything I wear has to cover it. Tunics are my best friend. I like oversize because when clothing sticks to me all I see and feel is rolls. I don't like clothes for fat people that mimic clothes for skinny people. Dress Barn does that - they have a shirt available in size 2 to size 4X. Someone is not going to look good in that and it is most likely the fat person.
I don't wear cute shoes anymore because I am overweight and I hate the look of me being fat in any kind of heels. So I wear flats, usually oxford style. At home I wear either sneakers or some kind of slip on shoe. I don't care for leggings but I like pull on pants at home. Sweatshirts are great. Lazy, no effort clothes.

I enjoy fashion and knowing what the trends are, even if they're not for me. My dil pointed out that I do have a winter/visiting Philadelphia uniform: skinny jeans, wedge heel bootie or sandal, tunic with a front tuck (or tank and cardigan) and a long pendant necklace.
My hairdresser/friend is very fashion forward, so she'll give me a yay or nay when I'm interested in trying something new. My dil will too, but even though we're the same size/shape in general, she is 30 years younger! She can pull off a lot of things that look or feel silly on me.
I feel challenged by keeping up with what is new and fun and keeping a small, tightly edited closet.

Every single time I see a pea thread asking about shoes, I hate every shoe linked. lol Would you share some links of shoes that you do like? It's funny that you ask this question, as I was just thinking about fashion and the different threads I've read on the peas about fashion. Just this morning I got complimented on my outfit, and I was told that I always have such cute clothes. I dress a little more trendy, but I'm also on a budget and can't afford to buy new clothes every season. I have some basic classic pieces, but every few months I like to go into clothing stores and see what is new, and get a few pieces that are fun and trendy. I also enjoy dressing up a little, so I'm usually a little more dressy than the occasion calls for, but to me I don't mind because that is the way I like to dress. I enjoy finding the right necklace to go with an outfit, and making everything come together with accessories. I'm one of those that feel that Society dresses far too casual for the occasion most of the time. I'm not talking about a run to the grocery store or other errands, but going out for supper, or going to an appointment, I'm usually always surprised at what someone has chosen to wear.

I am a teacher.
I wear mostly cigarette style pants from the Loft with either flats or a heel. I wear a cami with either a sweater or blue over it most days. I also like leggings, tall boots, and long tunics or sweaters.
Weekends are mostly workout wear or jeans with booties.

I wear short sleeve or long sleeve tees and yoga pants on a daily basis. Not the tight yoga pants, the old fashioned kind that are like regular pants. Jeans sometimes. Dress pants and a nice blouse for church or dates. Pants are all basic black, brown or navy. I don't wear skirts or dresses. I don't think I have a style. I'm not interested in fashion. I do appreciate cute flattering clothes, on myself and on my friends. I notice flattering colors, too. I put in enough effort to ensure that everything is covered, that my clothes flatter me or at least conceal what I want concealed. I want to look neat and appropriate for every occasion, that's important to me. I don't accessorize much beyond an occasional necklace.

What do you wear on a daily basis? For work, I wear a typical business casual, black, navy, grey or khaki pants, with a shirt and sweater, jacket or blazer. It's pretty much a uniform. I do accessorize with scarves and necklaces.
Weekends are jeans or leggings with a fun top and boots.
What is your style? Very monochrome with a splash of color in a necklace or scarf. Sort of classic looking. I do like interesting prints so I have some cool tops.
And some follow up questions to my big main question - Do you like fashion? Yes. Do you enjoy clothes? Yes. How much effort do you put into your outfits? Not a lot Do you accessorize? Yes. But simply.
I wear what I like. I really need to loose some weight so I am probably a little more boring then when I feel better about myself.

I am not a clothes horse and the thought of clothes shopping is torture. My style is pretty basic/classic preppy. At work I typically wear a skirt with a cardigan or sweater and flats. Most of my separates I have purchased at Costco and most pieces are quite a few years old (4-7 years). I’d like to do a capsule wardrobe, but that would require clothes shopping so it hasn’t happened. I don’t wear heels because after years of not wearing them, I’ve finally gotten rid of all the odd corns and calluses they caused. I also wear between a 10-11 depending on style and cute shoes just don’t come in those sizes and I refuse to wear shoes that hurt my feet. Leisure time consists of jeans or sweats and in the summer shorts and flip flops. At this point, if I never see another woman in skinny jeans with tall boots, tunic sweater/long cardi, cocker spaniel hair and “statement” jewelry it won’t be soon enough. I realize probably a lot of peas wear that look but i'm just so over it. I like to look at fashion and I’m all over Go Fug Yourself at awards season, but I have no desire to follow the trends. I have jewelry but never think to put it on. I’ve been wearing the same necklace for about a year, it never comes off. It’s a good piece of classic jewelry (Tiffany linked rings in gold/silver) and I don’t have to think about it. Earrings is where I need to get better. I usually think about it when I get to work...too late!

I'm boring - tee shirt with trousers or capris usually. I think it's a combination of not really having a ton of money to spend on clothes; not being comfortable with my body (I'm fat), and not wanting to invest money in clothes I'm hoping to lose weight and not fit.
I'm starting to upgrade my wardrobe a little - I'm 46 and I want to look more grown-up but I'm still a homemaker so I'll still be more casual than someone who works in an office or corporate environment.
I think shoes and nicer tops are going to go a long way towards improving my wardrobe and that's where I'm focusing my efforts right now. I've found a pair of brown and a pair of black shoes that'll work with jeans or trousers (and are an upgrade from my red tennies, lol). All my trousers are neutrals (khaki, black, brown, grey, and a pair of dark denim trouser cut jeans) so I'm pulling colour in with blouses - most are still solid but I'm hoping to find a couple of prints that I like. I'm happy with my winter/long-sleeved tops so focusing on short right now that will carry over to capris/long shorts/summer skirts - need to find dressy black summer shoes (to wear with skirts/dresses) and casual brown/tan summer shoes (to wear with capris/shorts)...it's hard finding comfortable shoes with arch support and not high heels or thongs or slides that don't make me look 90, lol.

Has anyone seen the documentary Advanced Style? I love the way they talk about fashion in that film. One of the ladies said
I am an artist. My outfit is the portrait I paint to present myself to the world everyday.
They talked a lot about curating outfits, curating their closets.
That's how I've always thought of fashion. It's an art form. It my way of expressing myself to the world everyday.
In high school my teachers called me "Myshelly and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Wardrobe" (my soul would have been crushed to death if I went to a school with uniforms). In law school and at law jobs everyone called me Elle Woods after the character in Legally Blonde. People have always talked about my clothes.
I guess I would describe my style as Southern boutique girly girl. I like to wear things that are unique. I don't shop at department stores often. I don't wear jeans or tennis shoes or yoga pants or any athleisure wear.
Right now I'm very into palazzo pants, ruffles, fringe, Pom Pom trim, tassels, kimonos, pattern mixing, lace, tulle, layers, lots of color, florals. I dress up on a daily basis. I always have jewelry, shoes, a purse, nails, and a Yeti or RTIC cup to match every outfit. An outfit isn't a complete outfit without the accessories.
I enjoy clothes. I enjoy the attention I get because of my clothes. I'm always getting compliments and people always ask me to take them shopping.
I like it when people pay attention to details in their clothing. I shouldn't be able to see panty lines, bra lines, bra straps, or the line of your pants waist through your shirt, nothing is more unflattering that the pop of a button closure sticking out and drawing attention to a woman's stomach. I don't like it when people's nail polish clashes with their clothes.
I think it's absolutely possible to be comfortable and cute and I hate it when people use comfort as an excuse to just give up.

Left to my own devices I'd wear sweats every single day. However...not appropriate for either job. So to work I wear black pants, a short or long-sleeved basic pullover type shirt, and a sweater/jacket/something. Always. And the minute I get home I rip off everything and put on my sweats. In spring and fall, before the heat/ac is on, I might wear a long or short sleeved tee shirt, but in winter and summer (with the cold ac) it's always a sweatshirt or sweater. Comfort is my goal. lol

I love this thread. I didn't weigh in on the cold shoulder trend, which to me is different from the off the shoulder look that many on the thread seemed to use interchangeably. I'm surprised at the negative reaction to the cold shoulder look, because especially as women age, the shoulder, as opposed to the underside of the arm, remains a pretty part of the body to look at, as it's not as subject to the ravages of gravity. I don't have any of these because the places I buy clothes don't seem to offer them, and I wouldn't wear them in the winter as I don't like my neck and shoulders to be cold. I would totally wear it in the warmer months if I found one I liked. As far as the off the shoulder look, again--wouldn't wear in the winter, but then there's also the bra issue. Bra straps would ruin the effect and I'm not crazy about strapless bras. I have 3 basic types of clothes I wear: walking the dog clothes, regular/going out casually clothes, and special occasion clothes (weddings, holiday parties, etc.) Walking the dog clothes in winter are schleppy with lots of layers to keep warm and dry. Summer is a LL Bean skort and cotton tank. I do not differentiate between my other daily clothes and casual going out clothes, so I often get from DH, "Why are you so dressed up?" and from friends, "You look nice!" These tend to be a dress, pants or a skirt, a top, a sweater or jacket, boots and a scarf in winter, and switching out the boots and scarf for necklace and sandals in warmer weather. I always put on that "third piece" which makes an outfit feel polished and complete. I'm not really a ring or bracelet person, but will throw on a bracelet(s) for a dressy occasion. But even my special occasion clothes adhere to my style: simple lines, luxurious fabrics, sporty features like dresses with onseam pockets. What I wore to cashier at our band winter festival this past Saturday was a Gap black linen long-sleeve tee with white pinstripes, J. Crew mustard pants with rolled cuffs, a Michael Kors black cotton open sweater with sleeves just past elbow length, a Banana Republic blingy charm necklace and black Converse high-tops. It felt casual but together. When DH and I went out for dinner later to a medium upscale local restaurant, I wore the same thing. If it had been colder out that day, I probably would have switched the necklace for a floral scarf, because I love the juxtaposition of stripes and florals. If I had to characterize my style it would be casual, sporty, a touch urban sophisticate in terms of simple lines and my standard color palette of black, gray, navy and white. There's also a tad of romantic, prep and punk. I'm eclectic, LOL. I was sick a few years ago and literally wore nothing but black yoga pants, tee shirts and sweatshirts for three years. Once I started feeling better, I wanted to start looking better but sort of found I didn't fit into my former clothes both physically and emotionally and from an age point of view. I had to start over, figure out who I was and then start restocking my wardrobe. I started reading fashion blogs for older women and that was immensely helpful but man, talk about enabling... So I've learned lots of valuable info: 1. For any question asked on 2 Peas which begins: Am I too old for..., the answer is generally no as long as the important bits are covered. What you should ask yourself instead, do I have the confidence and do I feel comfortable when I wear this? 2. One thing I've noticed is that the older Peas stay very close to their "age-appropriate" shops. Don't get me wrong, I haunt J.Jill because their silhouettes are flattering to my apple shape, and they use a proponderence of natural fibers which are two of the most important criteria for clothes for me. But even J.Jill has started featuring what I characterize as "old-lady" colorways--those pastel lavenders, pinks and blues that scream "Come take me away to the Home!" that I see in the resurrected Coldwater Creek and other labels marketing to women over 40. So IMO, if you are going to wear old lady colors, give them some structure, sophistication, and crisping up with black or gray or navy. And please, dear God, get your pants altered. I see SO many over 40 women, who are typically overweight, wearing pants with huge legs and a big puddle of fabric at the ground. Narrowing and hemming would take 20 pounds and 20 years off you. Oops, kind of got sidetracked. What I was going to say that women over 40 should venture out, especially for shoes and accessories, into lines that cater to younger women. I'm not what I would consider a slave to fashion trends by any means; I've determined my style, which helps streamline my shopping process. But I do like my look to be fresh, because I like to feel as young and vibrant as I can at 58. I hate to see, and I see it a lot around here, women over 40 who've had just sort of given up. I've found, and I wouldn't have believed it, but I do feel better about myself when I make an effort.

What do you wear on a daily basis? What is your style? And some follow up questions to my big main question - Do you like fashion? Do you enjoy clothes? How much effort do you put into your outfits? Do you accessorize? *** I would say most days I wear Gloria Vanderbilt jeans from Costco and a T-shirt, long sleeve in the fall and winter, short sleeve in spring and summer. I probably have 200 t-shirts and I'm not even exaggerating. In the summer I wear shorts or the occasional pair of capris. I have one or two pairs of tennis shoes that I wear every day until they fall apart. My style, if I had to come up with a descriptive, would be "blend into the background as much as possible" LOL. I like practical things that hold up to washing and wearing and feel comfortable without looking sloppy (as in, muffin tops or backsides or boobs hanging out, or anything that's obviously too small or too tight). I honestly don't pay much attention to fashion. I too am older (50), short, somewhat overweight (down 20, 20 to go) and I have weird proportions so it feels like nothing looks good on me. I don't like wearing skirts and dresses. I have a very hard time finding pants that fit right so when I find something that even remotely fits, I just buy a bunch and go with that. Which is why I have a dozen pairs of the exact same pants, and now all of them are too big but the next size down is still too small. So for those reasons, no, I don't enjoy clothes and I loathe clothes shopping. I hate it with the heat of a thousand suns when I get invited to something where I need to dress up, it's almost painful spending money on something I know I'll probably only wear once. As for putting effort into outfits? What's that? If it's clean and suitable for whatever the weather is that day, it's good enough for me. DH couldn't care less and wouldn't even notice if I bothered, so I'd only be doing it for me. If it's something you (general you) enjoy, then by all means roll with that, I'm not judging what anyone else does with their time or money but it isn't anything that gives me any pleasure at all. Other than my watch and a small pair of yellow gold hoop earrings that I never take out, I never wear any jewelry. I stopped wearing my wedding rings when I was pregnant with DD and almost couldn't get them off, now I can't get them back on and getting them resized is more effort than it's worth to me. DH doesn't wear any jewelry, not even a watch. And ditto on the shoes! Some of them are just ridiculous. I got a catalog in the mail the other day from the place I bought the tennis shoes I needed right after my foot surgery last year advertising all the "hot new shoe fashions" and I literally laughed out loud, saying, "OMG, who would actually WEAR any of these? They're hideous!" And then I promptly chucked it straight into the recycling. I have no room in my life for a shoe that looks like a strappy sandal and an ankle boot had a baby.

Love the Advanced Style blog--in fact my over 40 Bloglovin' fashion blog category title is Advanced Style. I think it's AWESOME that those 60, 70, 80 year olds and beyond are still making the effort to be creative and put themselves together every day. They are such an inspiration to me. Your style is the very antithesis of mine, but I love it when people make the effort to really determine their style and execute it every day. I love the potential to be creative every day with your style.

I agree with so much of what you said! Especially about tailoring, I tend to buy cheaper clothes (because I tend to shop from wholesalers, but that's a different thread). I learned to sew and can hem, take in, add darts, etc. It instantly makes clothes look more expensive and more flattering, I find my style changes every few years, not to be a salve to the trends, but just with my mood, personality, what is happening in my life at the time. I don't want to invest in pieces and not be able to change.

This is sort of a SO of the cold shoulder thread, but also a lot of other threads. In the cold shoulder thread multiple peas said things along the lines of "I take pea fashion opinions with a grain of salt." I've noticed that in any thread about new trends or current fashion, the peas poo poo everything. I don't think I've ever seen a thread where the peas liked a style. So my question is What DO the peas wear? What do you wear on a daily basis? What is your style? And some follow up questions to my big main question - Do you like fashion? Do you enjoy clothes? How much effort do you put into your outfits? Do you accessorize? 1. What DO the peas wear? I dress both work and play like Chico's and J.Jill, casual, comfortable and effortless. 2. What do you wear on a daily basis? See #1. Linen, cottons, clean looks. Hate dark and draped. 3. What is your style? I don't know what I would call it, lol--classic? I like to be comfortable like right now (for work) I have on a pretty black/cream striped longer, short sleeve shirt and black Capri pants. It's a (new) and really cute look, I really like it. Ralph Lauren-ish? I can wear denim to work (not ripped, distressed stuff) I live in jeans at home, sometimes legging if I'm not going out (I just don't like them or pajama pants as "pants" ). I will wear work out gear if going to the gym. And some follow up questions to my big main question - 4. Do you like fashion? I appreciate it, I like art and can see clothing as a creative and signature way to create a person's look. But no, generally speaking, I'm not a fashion lover! 5. Do you enjoy clothes? As a general, daily thing-no. I HATE shopping for clothes! If I find something I really like, I'm the girl who buys it in all the colors! I'm not totally under the fashion rock though--if I wear something that gets complimented and that makes me feel good, then yes, I most definitely live THAT about the outfit, 😂. Today's outfit is one of those days. I had on different (long) pants and before I left the house I ran back upstairs and changed ( and I rarely do that!) and was happy that I did. 6. How much effort do you put into your outfits? Minimal. If it was too hard, I'd go crazy. 7. Do you accessorize? Sometimes. I wear my rings 💍 and often funky "arty" pieces handmade by local artists. I like long necklaces and use pins to hold a light cover up jacket or scarf or will pin a pin to my necklace! One thing I never wear (anymore) is a watch or bracelets. My favorite watch (a beautiful divers watch) band broke and I just cannot wear another, and no one makes my diver watch anymore so I cannot replace the specific and unique band. Bracelets drive me bonkers!! 😂 I don't think twice about buying awesome shoes or bags. I always buy what I like without wincing at cost on those two things. I carry both a handbag and a messenger/briefcase type of bag every day. And sometimes 3 bags depending on what I'm doing at/for work. I think that covers most everything
