I said back when he was arrested, I have never been so disappointed in an athlete in my life. I followed him since his days at Florida. He was such an incredible talent and was given the world... and he threw it all away. Such a waste. I'm so sad over the whole thing. I'm having a hard time believing he did it he killed himself; he was just acquitted of the double homicides and was awaiting appeal for the earlier conviction - he had hope. I feel like someone was upset about the acquittal and took him out. Although never a fan, I agree that suicide itself, its timing, & a lack of note or previous indicators seem out of character. Plus, he was supposedly under 24 hour suicide watch in the mental health area of the prison...

I live in MA and I'm glad that my taxes can now go to something more worthwhile...like maybe fixing potholes...because this POS chose to take the coward's way out of his well deserved prison sentence. But my heart goes out to his daughter and the family of Odin Lloyd (and his other victims). I posted something along this same line on FB.

The prison stated, according to every news source I've seen, that Hernandez had demonstrated no suicidal ideation; thus, he was in a regular cellblock. If Hernandez had said or demonstrated that he was suicidal, then he would have been in a mental health unit and probably on suicide watch.

The New York Post stated that he was on a 24 hr suicide watch (which didn't make sense given the outcome of the situation). After your post, I looked around a bit and saw reports saying the opposite. It's a sad situation all around.

I am in total agreement with those of you shaking your heads about the athletically (and perhaps in other ways) gifted who throw their futures away. The suicide before the team was hosted at the WH has a weird parallel with our local ex-Olympian who is currently serving his sentence- the darling of the London Olympics and Paralympics made a suicide attempt just before the opening Ceremony of the next Olympics- it was reported his regrets peaked at that time due to his having to see on TV what he was missing out on.
