Do you snore, or stop breathing while sleeping? Beside being tired, do you get headaches often? Might be sleep apnea.

Poor sleep and headaches? I'm dealing with the same issues right now - I would guess allergies.

If you have a partner who sleeps in the same bed as you, ask whether you snore or seem to stop breathing. But that "I get 8 hours of sleep but am still exhausted" feeling is often a sign of sleep apnea, so even if you don't snore, you may want to mention it to your doctor. The activity tracker would help you show what your sleep patterns look like, although I'm sure it's not as accurate as a formal sleep study.

He didn't *think* he was sleep deprived, but he was tired all the time, would get sleepy while driving, snored loudly and I could hear him starting and stopping breathing repeatedly. Once he got tested with a sleep study, he was shocked to learn that he was waking up hundreds of times a night. A CPAP machine fixed the problem right away.

I used to be able to share a hotel room with her but I cannot do it anymore. She is either waking me up sawing logs or I'm worried she will stop breathing for too long. I do agree with the other posters that you may have some apnea. Try sleeping with a Breathe Right strip for a few nights and see if it helps. If it does, then you at least have a place to start and can use that info if you decide to see a doc about it. SaveSave

My uncle did a sleep study at the hospital where they monitor his sleep pattern for a night and then offer recommendations. One thing I heard from him was that he thought he was sleeping but my aunt would tell you that he is constantly moving/rolling/waking himself up without realizing.
So may be try to talk to tyour pcp to see if he can suggest something

This was me. I thought I slept decently, but I was always tired. I had a constant headache and my asthma was hair trigger.
My sleep study revealed that I did have mild sleep apnea but they couldn't tell if it might become more severe as I fell deeper asleep because I didn't go into deep sleep long enough for the test to get a good measurement. The tech said he'd never seen anyone stay in R.E.M. As long as I did. I was also having mild heart flutters.
When I discussed the extended R.E.M. With my mom and DH, they pointed out that I am a very light sleeper; any sound out of the ordinary immediately wakes me up. I think I developed this habit when our dog became older and needed frequent bath room trips. It probably didn't help when DH had his stroke and I spent every night listening and waiting for him to have more problems.
I have a cpap machine that, for the most part, is a true blessing. Not only does it help me breathe deep all night, but the air is humid and I no longer have nose bleeds. The machine makes just enough noise that I can't hear every creak of the house, but not enough that I couldn't hear if a family member called out. My headaches and asthma have gotten better, too. I still have chronic insomnia, but that's a whole nother issue.
if your insurance will cover a sleep study, i highly recommend it.

My problem is if I get up to go to the bathroom anytime after 5, I have trouble getting back to sleep. I take Tylenol pm or benadryl most nights just to help me sleep. I feel that if I didn't get up to go to the bathroom, I would sleep well.

Start with blood work to rule out things like blood sugar and thyroid issues. Get a sleep study after that. My husband was shocked to find out how many times each night he was waking up. If it's none of those, try eliminating bread and sugar from your diet. That helped me a lot.

Thanks everyone. I do take a sleep aid every night. And I known I'm a restless sleeper, even more since since my back issues.

If you have pain issues (since you mentioned your back) that could be part of it.
I really want my Dh to get sleep study done. I had one while we were trying to diagnose my fibro because I was so exhausted. Yeah, I only got 5 min of REM sleep! No apnea though.
