I feel so badly for you. I have had them several times on my face, neck or side. Until I had to change medical health care plans, I had an open prescription for an antiviral so I could get immediate medication whenever I started to break out. Unfortunately, I now belong to an HMO that only prescribes a medication that when I looked it up online states that it "used to be given for shingles, however there are more effective medications now on the market." My HMO also doesn't allow the shingles vaccine unless you are age 65 or older so I had to pay $150 elsewhere to get it.
I did find that soft cold packs wrapped in a non-abrasive fabric like flannel helped. I also found that ibuprofen worked better than acetaphetamine. I hope you feel better soon.
