Yeah to your daughter. It will be an exciting time for her and she will see and experience many things. I wish her the best and hope her time in the US is filled with fun. She will have memories that will last a life time. I was an exchange student to Sweden for a year and it was one of the best experiences of my life, it was hard at times but it was so worth it.

One thing we have learned is it's cold there. It can be hot, cold, windy, rainy, tornadoes, and have an earthquake all in one day! LOL My sis lives in Kansas and it happened! I think the only thing it didn't do that day was snow! .. the earthquakes are quite mild - but they do get them!

I live in Kansas. We get surprisingly little snow, and our winters have been pretty sparse and warm the last few years. But that's in eastern Kansas. If she is in the west, it could be a little different. Welcome to your daughter, and I hope she has a great time! What city will she be in?

The summer can be hot as hell, so if she'll be here during the warm months, warn her she'll be awfully toasty if she comes prepared for it to be cold!

Aaahhhhh squeal!!!! If you we ant to pm me the location I can hopefully give you more detailed information about the area. And can you define "cold"? LOL. As others have said, it's spring here and 73 degrees (fahrenheit) My kids wore shorts to school. Now in December through March, yes we get cold, and snow and other crap that falls from the sky. Depends on what time of year she's going to be here. I went to school in the western half of the state and grew up in the eastern. Where will she be at? Happy to offer tips.

Another KS pea checking in & wondering what town she'll be in. Our poor excuse for state government is every bit the embarrassment that the Trump administration is, so she'll probably hear about that while she's here.
Summer (potentially all the way through September and into October) can be hot and is certainly humid, but fall is truly lovely. Unless she's going to be in western KS, she probably shouldn't expect much if any measurable snow, and there may be a few bitterly cold days (highs of 10F or less), but for the most part it's not it's not terrible (evidence: when I asked the Subie dealer to put a block heater on my car, no one in the shop had ever installed one before).

Interesting place for her to land! The midwest is very different than the rest of the country.
I hope she is able to travel and see some of the rest of our beautiful country. And I'm not saying that Kansas is not beautiful. I live in the desert and most people would not consider it beautiful, but you know what they say about beauty.
I tell people when they ask about living here that "it's nice because no matter where you travel, its different than home"!

How fun!! Do you know what city?? Unless you want that (understandably) unknown. Another one from the Kansas area. If she is near Kansas City there is so much to do!! If she is not near a big city, she will at least see where our farmers are at! haha.. The weather can be quite different month to month! There is a Wizard of Oz place somewhere in KS.. if she knows that movie that might be something fun?? I've never been there but I always see signs for it. LOL.. Sure it is a typical 'touristy' thing. There is also where Laura Ingalls Wilder (if she even knows who that is) lived near in Independence, Kansas (not to be confused with Independence, MO)
Anyways, whatever she is going to do, I hope she enjoys!

Our poor excuse for state government is every bit the embarrassment that the Trump administration is I don't want to derail the thread, but just have to say I agree on this one. Other than a brief time as a surly teenager I've always been proud to say I'm from Kansas. I can honestly say I'm embarrassed for my home state, and can't believe what's currently happening. (evidence: when I asked the Subie dealer to put a block heater on my car, no one in the shop had ever installed one before). Bwa hahhahahahaha. When I first went to school in Montana I kept asking people why they had electric chargers on their cars. As an aside, did you actually need to use a block heater here? I know we can get stupid cold, but not like in the northern states. There is a Wizard of Oz place somewhere in KS. it's in Liberal! (out west) Dorothy's house

Bwa hahhahahahaha. When I first went to school in Montana I kept asking people why they had electric chargers on their cars. As an aside, did you actually need to use a block heater here? I know we can get stupid cold, but not like in the northern states. NEED would be overstating things a bit. The last Subie I had came from Nebraska (where it tends to be colder/snowier), and it already had one installed. As it happens, there are conveniently-placed power outlets where I park for work, so after 10 years of being spoiled by hopping into a car where the heat was warm immediately, I decided to go ahead and get another block heater installed on the new one. Since my car's always garaged when I'm at home, I only use it at work, which really only amounts to 3-5 times a winter, I'd guess. We also considered that Subies generally have a higher resale value in colder climates, so it should theoretically boost resale value. The reality, though, is I'm just a little spoiled (and I don't care about, like fancy sound systems or something, so I got this instead).
