So he is admitting that Comey might have incriminating evidence against him on tape? I feel the need for popcorn... My first thought was that he basically implied that Comey has info to leak. I don't think Trump has anything on Comey - just empty threats because he's throwing a Twitter tantrum. I'm thinking the same thing. Trump knows that Comey has info on him. And maybe Trump is threatening him by insinuating that he has him on tape. Who knows? But no matter how you shake it, it's messed up.

I read that as Trump warning Comey that he (Trump) taped their conversations. That's how I read it. That if Comey speaks of their conversations he had better be truthful because there are tapes somewhere. But with his poor sentence structure it's hard to be sure

Of the two of them, you would think with Comey's background he would expect everything he says to be recorded in some way and as such would be very careful knowing it could come back to bite him. You don't get to the very top of the FBI by being careless and stupid. With Trump, that's obviously not the case since the man has been a documentable fountain of outright lies, misstatements and stretching of the truth for decades.

I don't think Comey is stupid. You dont get to be Director of the FBI if you are. I'm sure he read Trump and his mental issues long before he got into the WH. Comey must have tons of dirt on him. Even before the campaign...
That said, Comey has nothing to lose by revealing things. He already lost his job. Unless Trump has threatened his family or something, I'd be singing like a bird if I had dirt on him.

Threatening a witness in a federal investigation, on social media? Isn't that against the law? Intimidating or threatening a witness? I understood from one report that I read that Comey has been asked to testify on Capitol Hill next Tuesday, over the circumstances of his firing and his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. This is getting worse and worse by the minute. Surely someone, somewhere can stop it.

One of my Twitter friends tweeted that we now have Bane running things - but we lack a Batman.
We have 535 people with Batsuits and Batmobiles. What we lack is the courage to put on the suit and fire up the car.

Unbelievable.
And not really unbelievable with this President... he is without dignity or common sense.
I hoped to be proven wrong about him, wanted him to surprise many of us and truly be great. It's not happening!

I really wish we had some sane Republicans here that can calmly explain how their candidate is justified in all of his bullying tactics. Honestly, I'd love to hear some rational explanation from the other side. Because all of my conservative Christian friends are very, very quiet. You're assuming they voted for him. I'm a conservative Christian who used to be a conservative Republican and I have never defended one single thing he's done. I didn't vote for him, I have actively spoken against him, and I pray often that he will somehow be removed from office, soon.

But no matter how you shake it, it's messed up. From one of the reports I read:- Michael Beschloss, a leading presidential historian, said on Twitter on Friday: “Presidents are supposed to have stopped routinely taping visitors without their knowledge when Nixon’s taping system was revealed in 1973.”
The tweet, which if taken at face value would suggest Trump has been secretly taping White House meetings, came after the New York Times reported that he demanded “loyalty” from Comey in a private dinner held shortly after Trump took office. So is he threatening Comey that he has got tapes where he promised " loyalty". Speaking the truth at a senate hearing that might mention the name Trump is now classed as being disloyal........in Trump's mind

I don't envy you, Americans, I really don't. This guy in charge is completely off the charts. And not in a good way. I can't figure out whether he has mental issues or if he's just what happens when a narcissist who's been surrounded by yes-men for most of his adult life is given far too much power. He's spot on for the main traits such as thinking himself superior to everyone else, deserving of special treatment (and who becomes very upset when he's being denied such special treatment), arrogant, entitled, very reactive when criticised, etc. Here's a good short read about narcissism and its traits. I'm not sure he's mentally ill. I just think he's mentally unstable because of his now heightened narcissism due to the amount of power he's been given... Edited for clarity.

An innocent man does not act like this. An innocent man wouldn't give two shits about an investigation and for argument's sake, let's say that James Comey did have dinner with that man, an innocent man wouldn't even have brought up the subject because he has nothing to worry about, so why even ask?
Now because our justice system is founded on "innocent until proven guilty", we should be giving that man the benefit of the doubt, but HIS OWN actions are anything but reassuring that he is innocent of at the least, lying (not surprising) and at the worst, obstruction of justice.

But here's the thing, the people I know who are Trump supporters are posting on social media "way to go" "he isn't bluffing" and are EXCITED that he is threatening Comey. They think that's a good thing.
So there you have it.

I have no doubt Comey knew he was being taped. Trump is just trying to make it look like he has the drop on Comey. But apparently, Comey was well liked in the FBI so I don't think they will allow one of their own to be systematically destroyed. There are things in the works. I'm pretty sure of it.

If you haven't seen "Idiocracy", I highly recommend it, if only so you'll be prepared for what our future holds... I disagree. The people of Idiocracy may have been stupid, but President Comacho understood his limitations. He knew that he wasn't an expert, and the things he was trying weren't working. NotSure was smarter, so Comacho was willing to let him make some decisions. We have a large percentage of the population who are fine with what Trump is doing. They don't see him as breaking the law, putting the country in danger, or dismantling the constitution for profit. They don't care about the corruption. So long as he's not a Democrat and he's a white "Christian" he can do no wrong. They are willing to live in an authoritarian society so long as it is their guy and their religion in charge. They don't want to live under Sharia law. They don't want to give up their 2nd amendment rights. But if they get to make the rules and it gets rid of things like liberals being allowed to have free speech and Muslims having freedom of religion, it is fine by them. Because THEY aren't the ones who will be on the bottom of the heap anymore. They are deluded and don't understand that when the Muslims or liberals are gone, there will be a new scapegoat. There always is. Next time, it might be them. But by then it will be too late.

Two problems. One, you have to prove that the person intended to influence/delay/stop testimony, and 45 will argue that he meant something else by that tweet. Two, it would require a federal prosecutor to prosecute him, and . . . well . . . .

Trump is really pissed that Comey and others ignore his repeated demands to go after the leakers. Mike Flynn would still be in office if it weren't for the leakers and Trump was always more interested in who leaked the info than the fact his NSA was compromised. I'm taking this tweet as a warning to Comey that Trump will go after him if any of their conversation ends up in the papers because Trump will know Comey leaked it. Except none of their conversation would fall under leaking classified information.

None of the people I know who voted for Trump for reasons like abortion, a change in government as usual (in a more rational vein), etc., are totally silent these days. For instance, you can literally see them avoid conversations or walk out of the room when the news is on. All the build the wall racists/bigots/mysognists are crowing about every single thing Trump does. They act like they believe the lies, but when they can't get around lies, they crow about the lies and are proud of them. It is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, someone needs to shutdown his twitter account. But then his self-incrimination would no longer be documented. Sad!

Is it wrong that my first thought was "the Russians planted the recording devices yesterday, after Comey was there" Hell, no. The focus on the election just masks other major issues like spying, treason, shady business dealings and the like. Besides, if Trump and Putin were on the up and up, press would have been present. The photos of White House photographers would have been published. The meeting was not normal. I don't even think recording devices were necessary. I don't think Trump would have any trouble handing over whatever the Russians might ask for/demand.
