This is a spin-off of LavenderLayoutLady's thread. Looking back through your albums is there something you wish you did better.

tracyarts said in the other thread how she used lots of physical memorabilia which is something I always mean to include but feel like it so rarely happens. I also wish I didn't go through the no journaling, just cute photos stage, but they were cute photos and cute pages.

I don't do much journalling or story telling. Years ago I did more of it but for a long time now it's been the absolute basics.

using more physical memorabilia is one I always wish I could conquer- but I can never remember where I stash that sort of stuff.
More varied embellishments and more 3-D type embellishments is my answer, I think. Also more Silhouette cuts!
I have a huge stash of wood veneers, bling, decorative brads and die duts, flair, washi tape, ribbons, rickrack, craft floss, stencils, mists, etc. but I always seem to end up using the same few types of [generic] embellishments on my layouts- punched circles, flowers, and/or leaves, a few enamel dots and a word sticker or two, and that's it. No machine sewing, no rickrack, no ribbon, no fancy background treatments like woven papers or inked edges, no texture paste, no stenciling, misting, hand-sewing, etc.

journalling - I'm good at the basics but I've never mastered the heartfelt, emotional journalling - possibly because I'm not good at expressing emotions in flowery words in general.

Journal. I am creating pages from 2001 and wish I would have written more down. Although when I read my old journaling, it cracks me up.

crimsoncat05, totally forgot about sewing - machine or hand. I so love the look but am too lazy for hand sewing. 950nancy, since I don't scrap current photos I often wish I took better notes too. myboysnme and Linda, I used to only put down basics too. Or worse, no information at all! I think it was a journaling section on get it scrapped that help me be a wee bit better, but still some pages just need the basics.

Use my tools. Like others i seem to gravitate to the same few embellishments.
I'm a who, what, where journaler. Sometimes when i read the journaling on online pages i cringe a little. It's just not my style and a lot of it is so overwrought to my eye.

Journal more; but just the basics. I have quite a few pages with no date written, or no notation of who is in the photos. I mainly scrap events, so a story doesn't need to be told. I wish I could get that layering look down and do it fast. I do enjoy a finished album, so I continue to keep it simple.

Looking back through your albums is there something you wish you did better. I wish I had bought an inexpensive sewing machine to stitch on my layouts. It was super popular for quite a while, but I could never justify the expense since it would have been the only thing I sewed.

I love my pages the way they are, and wouldn't want to go back and change any of them. I noticed when putting my dgs's copied pages into his album that not all of my earlier pages have dates on them. Wish I had done that. All the pages I currently do are dated.
I am also always trying to learn new ways to create interesting pages. I want to master the 3 cluster page design. And make more use of my dies and stamps. I am also continually working to improve how I blend inks and use other mixed media on my pages. I really covet the skills that create those lovely layered backgrounds: my attempts tend to just look muddy and messy--and not in a charming way!

hmmm- I have a couple layouts in process right now, and because I came back to read the updates to this thread, I think I'm going to add some different embellishments to it! Either hand sewing, flair, wood veneer, or something like that. Thanks for asking this question, LisaDV.

I have a whole room of Rubbermaid bins full of memorabilia. I need to sort it out so I can use what I want in my PL books or on a scrapbook layout. I get so mad when I come across something I saved, but I have already made a page. Sometimes I can figure out a way to include it, but sometimes it doesn't go.

Because I store my photos in 9"x12" manila envelopes, I add the memorabilia right to the envelope. That way it's all together.

I would have to say journaling. I do have pages where I did tell the story, but most of my journaling is the basic who, what, when and sometimes where.

I wish I did more hand stitching. I have loads of templates, embroidery floss and twine, and even my beloved Sew Easy tool. But A) it never occurs to me to do it and B) it takes forever.

I am pretty good about adding in memorabilia. I wish I did more mixed media. I love Inkie Quill's style. Of course she often does a 9x12 with a single photo. I do 12x12 with 3-4 photos. If I do mixed media, I often end up covering up the pretty bits. I will have to try to incorporate my many supplies a different way. Maybe make a mixed media tag for a title or something.

I want to encourage those of you who said "more memorabilia" - it's never too late to go back and add it if you still have it or find it later. I do this ALL the time. I bought a bunch of 8.5x11 page protectors, different size pocket pages, etc. and I stick stuff in. Then when I go through the album again, it makes me happy to see it there.

I thought about just taking an album and using a fuse tool and labels and putting all the memorabilia in the back because I always forget it.

those are both good ideas- I always think the memorabilia should be incorporated INTO the layout, you know? but I have plenty of regular page protectors, and I have the Fuse tool, so I could totally do something like that. Either add it into the middle of the layouts, or at the end of an album, in the case of my vacation album. That IS one reason I want to make a mini album to go with the 12x12 vacation albums, though, too- to use some of the random memorabilia on the pages / flaps / pockets.
but one of my other issues is FINDING the memorabilia- I have a couple piles of stuff, they're just not organized. that would probably be a good weekend project sometime.

I use mine all the time and it makes the pages look very pretty and really adds that extra special touch to them. I bought mine at Costco for under $150 and I only sew paper with it and it's held up really well. Wish I too remembered to add memorabilia in when I make pages, but I always seem to forget. I have a whole container full of memorabilia that I need to go back and add in, and the pile keeps growing.

Journaling. My earlier pages have very little journaling. I notice the scrapers I admire the most have pages heavy in journaling.

I wish I used my Cameo more. I need to pre-plan some titles so I can cut them all at once; the same with die cuts.
I love hand stitching but wish it didn't take me so long sometimes; so maybe there is a sewing machine in my future?

There are two things I'd like to do better. One is memorabilia, as many have mentioned. I am so careful to collect it while we travel, and label it with destination and date, then I forget about it when I come to scrap the photos. I would also like to master the art of layering and clustering embellishments. It looks so good when others do it, but mine look like I have thrown random stuff at my page.

I wish I did more stitching on my pages, I love the look, just don't want to drag the machine out- maybe I will do that this weekend!

Journaling. I am really bad about that. Really bad. I need to be better! Imagine you're gone (morbid, I know) and your grandchild is an adult and looking through the album. What would you want him/her to know about you, about your family, about our times? That helps me a lot when I'm journaling.

I prefer to put the memorabilia in a pocket on the back of the LO - it's often crumpled and ugly anyways, and the cool part about a map or programme is that you can pull it out and open it up and see the details...if I put it under elements on a layout, it's stuck!
I wish I used more mixed media - spice up the backgrounds a bit - but it's so much extra work! I grab photos and dive right in.

I love the idea of stickers, not the old Mrs. Grossmans style but nice cardstock stickers. I would be embarrassed if the average person saw how many I own. And dare I admit that my little girl probably would love to play with them but I give her the cheap kind instead (non-scrapbooking stickers). But I never use them on layouts. So I really need to use some stickers on some layouts (and not in the dreaded sticker sneeze).
