Hoping to harness the power of the peas. We're in the market for a new washer/dryer and trying to decide btw a top loader and a front loader. What say the peas? Is there a clear winner?

I have a top loader. But I would like a front loader so I can make use of the space above with a counter top. I don't have a lot of space in my laundry room.

I'm a great fan of the stacked built together unit, washer on bottom with a top opening and dryer on top with a front opening. No bending over ever and takes up less space than side by side appliances.

Top loader. For the simple reason that I always seem to forget an item when starting the wash. With a top loader I can open it and toss the item in. With a front loader, no can do.

Thoroughly check them out in the stores if you're short. I discovered I can't actually reach the bottom of the washer on a top loader 😄

No top loader unless you find one with an agitator. They are forever getting off balance, spinning endlessly and refusing to drain. I love my front loader. It's a Whirlpool Cabrio, I believe.

The reason is that with the lower water, it sounds as the water is coming in. I like my top loader. I've never had a front loader. Mine does have an agitator and I can add stuff after it starts. It has a sensor to determine eater level, but I can override it and pick my own level if I want.

I have a small laundry space (basically a hallway between my back door & kitchen) so like the convenience of stacked appliances. I have an AEG front loading washing machine with a dryer standing on top.

I have never experienced any of those issues with mine. I have had more friends regret front-loaders than I have had regret top-loaders. Just my personal experience.

I'm not sure I know anyone who doesn't regret buying a front loader.

I love my top loader and would buy another. I don't think I would like a front loader at all. I am short and it sometimes is a pain to reach the bottom of the tub. I have to stand on my tippy toes and lift my boos over the rim to lean in and grab the socks at the bottom of the tub.

I have an LG front loader. I'll never go back to a top loading machine.
I do miss the ability to soak in the machine.
There is also a learning curve. Never use liquids to avoid the odor issues. Do run the clean cycle monthly, too. They will tell you that you can not overload the machine. If you want clean clothes, don't overload the machine.
I love the fact that I can launder the queen size down comforter at home. Have yet to find a comforter, quilt, etc... that is too large for the machine.

I have a front loader because I believe they are more efficient and I don't have them on a pedestal because I like the fold my laundry on top of it .

A few yrs ago a number of peas recommended the top loader made by Spped Queen. I will always have one of these. It has an agitator and it gets the clothes clean. I bought the one w a manual dial. I like simple things.

I do miss the ability to soak in the machine. I think soaking used to be necessary when people have those old Toploader who had very short wash cycle but now with the new more efficient wash machine it's not necessary anymore .

Top loader for sure!!!
Mine locks after a minute BUT I just press the start button, it stops and the door unlocks and then I can add an item. Push start again and the door relocks.
My son is only 4'5" and can stand on his tippie toes and reach the bottom.
Everyone I know who has a front loader hated their washers.

Will be buying a new set for my new home in a few weeks and without question, buying a high efficiency top loader. I cannot wait to get rid of the stupid agitator I have in my rental right now.

I have washed my flannel handmade quilt and never had an unbalanced issue. And that quilt is heavy! I have the Cabrio top loader washer and the Duet dryer. The Duet washer was front load. Even the sales guy was like most people go for the top load.

I bought mine in 2011 I think. I gave it away the next year. It was so pretty though! I still stand by my front loader as a better choice. I can stuff it full and never worry about unbalanced loads. Also, as a short person, I like being able to reach into the bottom

My son is 4'5" and I taught him to spin the tub to bring items in the back to the front so he can reach in and pull them out. Quite cute to see him up on his toes

My front loader can be opened after I start it (at least for several minutes). I much prefer the front loader. I know they aren't everyone's bag though. Mine are stacked. I think the front loaders are all HE rated.

I've had a front loader for years and HATE it! As soon as it dies, I will get a new huge capacity top loader again.
I cannot dye things in it. No soaking. Water on the floor when I need to add anything. Not a fan.
I will miss my "counter" space for folding and storing laundry to be put away but I'll live with it.
