I also forgot to pay I just discovered poshmark which is an online place to buy used and new clothing. There was a dress that was out of stock at a retailer I just discovered so I wasn't very hopeful but lo and behold someone had it nwt for $100 off original price because it was too big. Then she offered 25% off if you bought two or more items so I bought some T shirts, one of which is a limited edition Disneyland shag shirt and through some magic, the shirts triggered $.99 shipping and I paid a couple dollars less for the dress with the shirts than without. Then I found another similar dress with a different pattern and you cab make an offer, the person said she was accepting almost every offer because she needed to move, so I offered her $65 when she was asking $100 as it was the same brand, and price that the first seeker was asking and she had worn it before. So I have two dresses enroute to me that are less than the price of one new and they're both sold out. Hopefully they both fit since one is a M and one is a L. The nice thing about poshmark is that they don't release payment until you inspect the clothing. The annoying thing is they email you several times a day so I have a feeling I'll have to unsubscribe to their emails.

Grom Pea great deals! I had a two year old pair of jeans I wished I had a backup. I found them NWT on Poshmark and became a fan! I want to learn about selling there. I found a Tori Butch tunic/mini dress at thrift last month for $2, but it was one size too small. I'm sure those pricing didn't have a clue. I pointed it out to a woman I don't know but regularly exchange pleasantries with and she bought it. Again, I don't think she knew much about the brand but thought it cute. Afterward, I thought I should try to sell on PM.

I have super big calves but it listed a calf measurement and it was fine, but I realized when I got them the probably measured the brain size like 8 and in a 6, so I was out of luck and they've just been sitting in a box in my closet. I also like how one seller flat out said she has cats so some fur is included in each package, that makes me laugh because I have a cat and know exactly what she means!

I am constantly amazed at what nice brands she gets, for such reasonable prices! It has been a great thing for her as she builds her work wardrobe. She has even sold some things as well. I need to look at it more often for myself.

I'm still trying to figure out how these boards work with quotes and stuff.
Someone said they hoped I'd join the craft threads. I'll see if I can find them and check that out.
And someone else asked how often I go thrifting. I go about twice a month and yes oh yes it's addicting. I retired the first of June and can go more often now. Before retirement it was my Friday after-work activity.

I'll see about the second dress as the large fits so well the medium is probably too small but there's always when I lose weight and the large is too big, since I've been going to the gym. :-)

I went to a rummage sale over the weekend and got a few items. A game for DS, and some rubber stamps for me, and a few old cabinet card style photographs from the very late 1800s.

I don't normally go to thrift shops. The few I have been to in our area are either not "thrifty" (ie expensive!) or filled with actual junk. Dd took me thrift shopping in Austin, TX and it was a completely different world!
My best find was a purse that is very much my style. It was marked $30, but because they computers were down and we had to wait a few minutes to check out, they gave us each $5 off. I paid $25 for a designer purse with a retail price of $375! It looks like it was barely used at all and the original tag was inside one of the pockets (along with a card for a limo service). It's an Isabella Fiore bag.
Dd is very good with brand names and was pointing out all sorts of clothing items to me. She paid $28 total for a pair of Toms boots, a Free People top, a dress and another top that she liked.

I found a mid century Christmas table cloth in mint condition at an estate sale. It was day 3, so I was stunned it was still there. I love it, but if it really is worth the $400 one sold for on etsy, someone else can love it! Do you have a picture? I just found a vintage Christmas tablecloth in my parents' basement and am very curious since I don't recall it at all so it is probably from the 60s unless my mom was given it by someone else later.
It looks like this one,but I seriously doubt it's really worth $400.

That design is more of a 1950's design. At one point several years ago it might well have been worth $400. Today, I would doubt if you'd get more than $100. Now if it is mint with original tags (like the one in the link), it would go for more. Signed, the woman with wayyyy to many of those vintage tablecloths!

I just visited one of my favorite thrift stores in the tiny town where our lake house is located. I paid $1 for a Martha Stewart book called good things. The book is in great shape and I thought it would be fun to take it home and flip through it. It's twenty years' old, but has some great recipes, crafts and home organization tips. I definitely think I'll get a dollar's worth of entertainment out of it.

It's a cute one. You might want to check out this article about the designer, Pat Prichard. She was quite a prolific textiles designer mid-century. If you do decide to sell, be sure and mention her name in the listing because there are collectors who look for her designs specifically. Pat Prichard Remembered

It was Buffalo Exchange, which I just learned is a chain! We went to one that is sort of behind it but that wasn't as large and didn't have as many interesting things. I Love Vintage is across the street (one Guadelupe), another interesting place to check out.

DH's cousin is getting married in a few weeks. We got a Facebook invite last week. I suspect it came because mil said something to the cousin's parents. Granted, this wasn't a long engagement. One of his siblings announced it early June. The wedding is labor day weekend. We accepted because we know it'll make his grandma happy.
Anyways, I know it'll be dressy enough that I'll need something to wear. The dresses I do have are too formal. I decided to look and see if I could find something. Worse case, I'll buy a new shirt and cute sandals to wear with my slacks. I actually found a dress on clearance for $18. It's a couple sizes too big but I've been able to alter other clothes to fit me better so I overlooked that. At the register, another percentage was taken off due to a special they were running. So the dress came up as $10. Then, because the belt was missing, another $3 was taken off. I got a $60 dress for $7. I have a sash from another dress that looks good. I'll have to tuck in the sides a couple of inches but otherwise, it's perfect. Best part is that there's blue flowers on it and I was told that their colors are navy and gray. It's casual enough that I can wear it for other stuff.
$7!!!!

I've been trying to donate stuff not buy more but...we dropped off a bunch of bags at our Goodwill (they recently opened a new bigger store here and closed the old, dingy one) and of course we had to check out what there was...
I got 2 books for me and 1 for DD10, DH got a ton of Lego, and DD10 spotted a Harry Potter broom for 4.99 that'll be perfect for her Hallowe'en costume.

I went to the auction Saturday night. Here's what I got:
From the new stuff, 3 very big rolls of labels, $6 total.
From the grocery items, gum, 4 packages, $2 total.
From the used/estate stuff:
- Vintage, Fuzzy Wuzzy Soap. We would occasionally get these when I was a kid. The bear would get fuzzy because of whatever nontoxic stuff was put on it. And, when you got to the center of the soap there was a little prize. I'll take before, during, and after pictures to scrapbook so if I have grandchildren they can see how we got our thrills in the 60s. $3
- Mixed lot of vintage glass decor, $1. Included a cute, small glass urn which I'll keep. The rest will go into my tag sale box.
- Lot of 6 pins, most vintage. One is Kirk's Folly brand. $1 for all. I'm keeping one and selling the rest.
- Vintage, glass, footed candy jar in a blue satin finish, $2.
- Mixed lot, vintage home goods, $1. One thing for my sister, and the rest will be donated.
- Fiskars shears paired with a random backscratcher, $1. Backscratcher being donated.
- 3 drawer Sterlite organizer for my husband's tool room, $1.
- 3 piece soda fountain style table and chairs. Fits whatever size doll is next size up from American Girl dolls. $2 for the set. I'm guessing that my sister who collects bears will want it when she sees it.
- My deal of the night, 3 tape dispensers. 2 are Scotch ATG 714 and the third one is a U Line H726 masking tape one. Drum roll please, $3 for the lot.
Attendees still sticking with lower bids for the most part. It felt like this was the first weekend where we've had good weather the whole time, so maybe they were out hitting the sales.
I went to three tag sales. I bought three little containers at one.
I'm happy to report that I brought a trunk full of stuff to Salvation Army. So everything that I've bought at auction, in my box lots, that I didn't have a plan for is out of the house.
While I was there I found a 10x12 light tracer for $3.99.
Hoping to see more posts on everyone's travels this weekend.

Well.
Made a trip to the BIG city last weekend for school shopping (well ok it was for a ballgame but we shopped while there). Stopped at a couple of Goodwills on the way, then went to a Salvation Army store and a Savers (first time there for me!). I probably won't remember what all we got but I'll try:
Jeans - 3 pr for me, couple for daughter 1 and a pair for daughter 2 Shirts - several for the girls, 3 for me. semi-formal dress for #2 for homecoming dance Couple of jackets for #1 Pillows that match each girls' bedding fabric, zippered storage "box/bags" for #1's dorm room - if she doesn't use them I will couple of unique bowls to plant little succulents in for dorm room Full skein of ILTY for $2 and a mill ends bag for $4 couple of pairs of shoes for #1 casual dress for #1 light jacket for girl #2 light sweater for me some jewelry nice shirt for my DH 2 hunting shirts for my FIL top for my MIL probably some things I'm forgetting
<AND>
11 (yes, 11) sweaters marked at 50c each at Salvation Army to deconstruct for yarn. Several of them were a nice heavy cotton, which will be awesome to use for making baskets etc as Christmas gifts. Probably close to $300 worth of yarn if bought new skeins, for $5.50.

I bet there is a case of that soap in my parent's house. My father would have never let us use something that could have been a collector's item.
I wonder if it would still work.

My best find of the week is not very exciting, but still .... My old ironing board finally gave up the ghost, and looking on Amazon I was shocked at the prices of new ones. Found one in perfect, as-new condition with a nice, clean cover on it for $4.99 at my local Sally Ann store.
