I didn't see a new thread for the month so thought I jump in with one. In my quest to retain my sanity with a DH home most of the time, I have been getting out of the house more. I've hit the thrift stores twice this week.
On Tuesday I met a friend for lunch and stopped in at a thrift store in her area and made several finds. My favorite is a Dritz velvet needle board, used for pressing seams in velvet and corduroy for just $3! I've always wanted one but they are rather pricey. My search online came up with prices between $60 and $80, so I am very happy with the cost. Can't wait to put it to use! Also bought a quilt kit from the Smithsonian Institution that is a replica of a quilt in their collection, a large vintage needlepoint canvas, a 1/2 yard of Laurel Burch quilting fabric that is no longer available, and a gorgeous silk scarf by Worth. All that was $11.50.
On my way home I stopped by a Goodwill store on a whim. I never find anything in Goodwill so was surprised to find 2 small needlepoint kits and a Ravensberger Puzzle ball, all new in the package. Cost there was just $3.60.
Today I dropped by a different thrift store after I had my hair colored. Found a needlepoint Christmas stocking kit, a bag with several cross stitch kits and the cutest little vintage creamer, all for just $18.50. I have collected creamers and small pitchers/milk jugs for years, only buying what catches my eye. This is a cute little blue/white one that looks like a Dutch windmill. It is stamped on the bottom "Made in Japan". Did a little research tonight and it turns out to be something called Marutomoware, most likely from the 1920's or 1930's. Part of the reason I enjoy thrifting so much is learning about the things I come across.
Has anyone else had time to find any bargains this week? Plans to do any thrifting this weekend?

Wow, you found some great stuff! I was looking online for some Laurel Burch fabric a while ago - it's very hard to find and even if you can find it, the cost is CA-RAZY. I'd probably squeal out loud if I found it at the thrift store! We've been in a real slump lately and haven't found anything exciting with one exception. My guy stopped at a Savers on his lunch hour and found a marbled Bakelite bracelet to surprise me. He even refinished it for me since my arthritis is making it hard for me to get them as shiny as I'd like, but really I think he was too curious about the real color to wait. We're going out treasure hunting this weekend so hopefully I'll have something fun to share by Monday.

I've been looking for fabric to recover the seats on my kitchen chairs. It's either been way more than I wanted to spend or not quite what I wanted. I stopped at a thrift store I don't get to often and found a piece of this fabric and snatched it up. It's an indoor/outdoor fabric and the piece is 3 yards. I paid $3 for it. It's way more than I need, but a friend has already called dibs on the leftovers. lol

They were small and very cute.

It was a 'scrap bag' from Keepsake Quilting. Those "scraps" were 1/4 yard cuts and there were 11 of them, all LB fabrics from 2007 and 2008 lines (including some Christmas prints). It has been lovingly stored in my stash, waiting on the right pattern to inspire me. I am tempted at times to list it with an ungodly amount just to see if it sells, but I just can't part with it. I am envious of your Bakelite bracelet. That is something I would love to find but really don't know enough about to start spending money on. Looks like something I need to start researching. Good luck with your treasure hunting this weekend!

I found a mid century Christmas table cloth in mint condition at an estate sale. It was day 3, so I was stunned it was still there. I love it, but if it really is worth the $400 one sold for on etsy, someone else can love it!

I stopped by salvation army and it was 1/2 price day! It was busy! I got 2 birthday cards and a really old book by 1 of my favorite authors that I haven't read.
31 cents was my total.
My people are going to be really surprised to get a "bought" card...I almost always send handmade. Maybe since they are almost antique, they won't mind.

I collect Jadeite and found a McKee plate at a garage sale this morning for a quarter. That garage was a mine field of treasures. I also bought a ziplock bag full of old marbles, and an antique trunk, each for $5.
Do you ever go to a sale that's so good, you keep walking around and around, making sure you didn't miss something amazing?

$5.37. Shirt is brand new. Hope to do something with red stuff for table decor. Jar has name of my workplace. Overhead conversation : we could sell this for $100 on ebay. Talking about a cast iron pan with 6 indentations...like for eggs? But they didn't buy it. It was $5. Hoping for a Comment on my wallpaper

They are still being made and I seriously doubt they would get $100. If that is so I could sell the two I have for a nice sum.

@elaynef - I love that pie plate! Hoping for a Comment on my wallpaper Are you talking about your cat border? Cute! Are you a cat fan/collector? Your table & chairs remind me of the set my late in-laws had.

Your table & chairs remind me of the set my late in-laws had. It was my mother's dining set so there is a possibility it is the same as your in laws. No, my family makes fun of my wallpaper though. I still like it. I know, it is gorgeous. Had to have it and I don't bake or eat sweets. Maybe chicken pot pie.

Hoping for a Comment on my wallpaper Ha ha - if you love it, then it's awesome. I only recently parted with my pretty rooster border. My family laughed at me about it, too.

Is that a mouse admidst the cats? I like the simple ness of the border, it almost looks like a classical pattern. Animal borders aren't my thing, but I have other quirky pices that give my family pause. Individuality is a good thing! 😍

How did everyone do over the weekend with their thrifting and bargain hunting? I stopped by the thrift store today. DH really needs to go back to work! All these trips to "run errands" just to get out of the house are beginning to add up! Absolutely nothing much in the fabrics/crafts department. Week before last I happened to be there the day they were clearing it all out. They had literally had filled a huge 30 gallon trash bin with everything and were bringing a few new things out. The area really did need a good cleaning up. They've been overpricing things for a while now and it just sits. Meanwhile, people just trash everything and then it ends up worthless. Better to price realistically and move the merchandise, right? No idea what they did with the old stuff, but today the shelves and smaller bins were nearly empty. Probably a total of 5 sewing patterns, a half a bin of yarn, maybe 10 ziploc bags filled with spools of thread and a couple of partially completed crewel sets. So nothing followed me home from the fabric department today. I did find several things on the office supplies aisle though, some to keep and some to list. A tin of Fiber Castell pencils for just $1. There were 6 new pencils inside that will join my supply drawer. Bought an unopened Magical Garden poster to color. That will be part of a Christmas gift. Also to keep is one of those Magnetic Poetry sets, but in French - and for just $3! Can't wait to brush up on my French with it. An unopened package of Creative Memories 7x7 page protectors that will probably be listed at some point. The most interesting find was a set of stamps with the sign language alphabet. The package was still in the original plastic, so never used. That will be listed as well. Looking forward to hearing about other finds.

I had to drop DS off at the dentist yesterday so I ran over to the nearest Goodwill. Little did I know that it was Senior Citizen day which I am eligible for!! Whoop whoop.
So I scored a bunch of tops most of them sold for $5.99. Got quite the assortment: no sleeve, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve and a sweater along with a nightgown. Actually threw them all in the washer when I got home and wore one to work today!!
Was also able to pick up a bunch of cups and saucers for a co-worker. She is having a tea party baby shower this fall and that is part of the party favor.
Definitely a great visit.

I stopped by goodwill this morning to kill some time and found a few things *I* donated to another thrift store. A jewelry box (which is how I knew it was my stuff), a couple of Christmas throws, some unique glasses. So disappointed.

We didn't find anything over the weekend. And it was 50% off everything at Savers so I'm pretty sure they were breaking the fire code in that place! I've never seen so many people in a store before. (And I worked in a mall for many a Christmas season!) They were actually issuing numbers for the fitting room like at the cutting table at JaAnns: "Number 83, there is a fitting room available..." I pretty much walked in and walked right back out, but not before seeing a woman trying on pants in the middle of the aisle. Just stripped down to her panties and proceeded to try and jump-jiggle into jeans that evidently were two sizes too small. I guess I just don't want a bargain THAT much.

I'm a newbie here. Stumbled across your boards looking for something else.
I love thrift shopping. I knit and crochet and make hats, scarves and fingerless gloves for my church's homeless outreach program. So whenever I can get good yarn at low prices I grab it up. Last Saturday I got about a dozen skeins of good worsted weight yarn for a little less than $6. And my Life is Good t-shirt collection increased by 2 shirts that I found for around $3 each. They're about $25 new for the short-sleeved variety. I think my all-time best thrifting deal was a $150 J Jill dress that I got for $4.98.

It's always nice to have a fellow thrift enthusiast join in the fun! Your deals sound good. Yarn used to be a good deal around here but they've gone a bit crazy with the pricing this year. Just recently I saw a new skein of Red Heart acrylic yarn marked at $3. When a thrift store starts charging more than Joann's does, things have gotten a little out of hand. How often do you get out to check out the thrift stores? I'm finding it can be addicting.

I just found a vintage Christmas tablecloth in my parents' basement and am very curious since I don't recall it at all so it is probably from the 60s unless my mom was given it by someone else later.

Thanks for starting the thread this month, **GypsyGirl**. I'm having some issues with internet. I went to the auction Saturday night. I know I'd been posting how the last few auctions hadn't been great. This last one made up for it, the crowd was thrilled. From the new stuff, I bought a couple of pair of work gloves. From the grocery stuff, I bought some boxes of cereal, snacks including a new kind, granola cups filled with almond butter, yum. From the used/estate stuff: - Paperweight for my sister's collection, $4 - Locking, Lucite display case with vintage jewelry inside. Some of the jewelry is ugly as heck. At least half of the jewelry is still on their original cards. I really bought it for the case. One of my kids has some pricey Magic the Gathering cards they want to sell at the next tag sale and it will be a good way to keep them safe. $12.50 for all of it. - Vintage globe, $1 - Mixed tray lot which included: a pair of new, Mikasa crystal candle holders, Raku pottery vase, 3 inch tall ceramic stein, and a pair of beet shaped salt and pepper shakers, all for $1. I wanted it for the salt and pepper shakers. The rest I'm putting in my tag sale box. - Pair of glass bookends by DAS designs. Both have their paper tag on them. They look like carved ice. One side is smooth and the rest are not. There is an anchor design that looks different depending on which side you're looking at, $9. - Plastic shoe box with a minimum of 25, new in the package, aluminum bottle/can openers. I only wanted a few, so I'll be putting most of them in my tag sale box, $3 for all. - A lot of 2 filled plastic shoe boxes. All I wanted was one thing, a new in the package, horsehair shoe buffer. That was in one box along with new in the package, metal dog combs and new packages of kite string. I started raising my card and the auctioneer added the second box. That one was full of new highlighters and Pentel Superball pens. So, I'll keep the buffer which I wanted and the pens. Donating the dog combs to the shelter, highlighters to school. Donating the kite string to school if they want it for the garden. $3 for all. Pretty happy because I was willing to pay $3 for the buffer which we needed. - 4 full size decorative flags, $1 each. One is still in the packaging. Both of my sisters use them. One is a birthday one with Woodstock and friends wearing party hats, another has Snoopy coming out of a Jack-o-Lantern, a Christmas one that says JOY and another one in a fall motif. - A large lot of decorative tins. I haven't counted them to see what the price averages out to. All together they fit in one large box and two medium size boxes. Most of them are collectible, dated candy tins. My favorites are vintage, English, candy tins. They are embossed and have the best colors and shapes. I'm keeping those for sorting and storing buttons and notions. The others are going into my tag sale box. When I was packing them up, a lady sitting nearby said that the one tin sells for $25-30 on eBay. I haven't looked yet to see if that's true. I'll be happy to sell the ones that I don't want for what I paid for all of them, $12.50. - My best deal of the night was a entire table full of Christmas decorations with some random books with them. Most is vintage, some is newer. The vintage is awesome, the newer is not. A decent size tin full of vintage glass ornaments caught my eye. There was also a vintage blow mold shaped like a star that looks like santa as a gingerbread cookie, there are some on eBay if you want to see. All of the rest is going into my tag sale box to recoup some of my cost. There were some serious bargains to be had, but seeing how my husband dropped me off I had to keep it at my seat and I was out of space fast. There were 2 green depression serving dishes. They sold for $1 for the pair. 3 full bee Hummels, along with 3 Goebels sold for $10 for the lot. A pink depression covered vegetable dish sold for $2. If depression glass is going to start going so cheaply, I'm going to start collecting the green. One of my auction friends won the bid on an Indian necklace of heishi and carved animals. She didn't even pay $5 for it. It was good quality and it looks amazing on her. I was super excited for her. If it had been anyone else I would have jumped in on the bidding. I've got finds to report from the stores but one of the kids is hounding me for the computer so I'll post again when I can.
