What amuses me is that Trump's wife, touted as the "right" kind of immigrant, really has almost none of the attributes favored based on this criteria.

No. I gots 28. I'm too old and have a Masters Degree in the wrong field, apparently. I also don't have the kind of money they're looking for in terms of investment.
Ridiculous.

Nope, too old and my masters degree is in English. The really sad thing is that all the foreign hires my college has made ( and wants to make) would not qualify because our starting salary, even with a PhD is only $45000 and that's with 12 years of teaching experience. I wonder if it applies if they are here already & need to renew? If so DS's school could loose a large portion of their staff. The proposals are for green card (Permanent Resident status) so once you are in, there isn't really any further look at your work/income/education status. If someone is renewing, they are on a limited visa that is often tied to a specific job.

I wouldn't qualify - too old and not trained in an area that pays well. Thankfully, Germany saw their way fit to let me stay as a permanent resident.

No. I speak decent English, have two Masters, but I still wouldn't make the cut. Oh well, at least I would be able to emigrate to Canada.

Nope, I don't qualify.
This is actually a bit scary as I'm a US Green Card holder and I have a Canadian BA and MA, and am bilingual (English and French) and my salary is pretty good. I just can't imagine trying to immigrate now! I missed it by 3 points. WOWZA!

I got 22 points. I do wonder how many points you get for being a Nobel Laureate or an Olympian. Haha I've just tried that using Mo Farah's details:- Age 34.....1 point High Sch Dip....1 point Fluent in English...12 Jaob..no.............0 Nobel Prize.........0 Olympic medals... yes a few ....15 Investments.....no..................0 Total 36.......I've got no job and I think I'll keep my investments in the UK, I was born in Somalia but with UK citizenship and I'm Muslin ( how does that fit into Trump's ideals?)........but it's OK I can speak fluent English and I've got a few Olympic, World and European championship medals......looks as if I'm allowed to stay. My family and I already live in Oregon. With no disrespect to Mo's achievements, I think he's a wonderful person as well as an athlete but how shallow is a criteria that you are fluent in English and have a few Olympic medals as a criteria to enter a country in comparison to ..... a Doctor/surgeon under the foreign professional degree but with excellent English, no job ( as yet) no investment planned, no Nobel prize and no Olympic medals.......with 25 points I'm not allowed into the country! So if I was an excellent cancer Doctor the US would rather sacrifice all the benefits and knowledge from that person to someone who has a few medals.......

Hope he doesn't start deporting Americans who don't live up to his expectations. I only got 18 out of 30. Wonder how many he would get?

It's essentially replacing H1-B as it gives a huge incentive for anyone with an advanced degree in stem with a commiserate job offer in that field.

Wonder how many he would get?I know he his Master's is from Wharton, so assume it's a business degree without a dual degree in a STEM field, so only giving him credit for his bachelor's: 6 Job over $155,000: 13 Investments of at least $1.8 million: 12 points Gives him 31 without even having to debate his English ability.

Keeping out a highly regarded cancer doctor is just a specious argument. One can and should debate whether there should be such a heavy weight on STEM applicants, as well as the athletic/international award section, but the reality is it scientific or medical researchers would be utterly unaffected by this legislation.

Wow, I guess I need to pack to ship out. I scored very low with my age, not having a million dollars, no medals, and no degree in their required fields. Both of my parents were born in Canada and I still have relatives there, but I doubt even they would want me at my age. So what option does this leave me? Maybe I should buy a boat and float about on the ocean until I die.

Based on that questionnaire, I scored a total of 2 points for my age!! I have a college diploma but not in any of the categories. I am not a millionaire, nor do I have a Nobel prize or an Olympic medal.
Good thing I don't need to move there.

The fact that an Olympic medal is worth more than a 'U.S. professional degree or doctorate in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics' tells me all I need to know.

I'm totally unsurprised by that - I also don't think it's anything new. I'm not even sure you have to have a medal now to get a significant bump. In some sports 90% of the freaking contenders from ANY country are all training here - so they must be pretty free with those sports visas.

Not even close. I'm retired, small pension, don't plan on investing any more, started working right out of high school at my job that I retired from (no college degrees, just a 2-year certificate program in my field) and I can't walk and chew gum at the same time, nevermind the Olympics. WTH does the Olympics have to do with it anyway?

It's not actually an unusual classification. I know Australia has a Distinguished Talent Visa as well. I'm sure other countries do as well.
