The pressure is on to join DH & the kids to watch the fight. He is hosting a tailgate style party at their warehouse and I'm trying to convince myself it will be fun.
Anyone else planning to watch or having a party? Who do you want to win? What is on your menu?

DH is a big boxing fan, so we watch a lot, but we don't watch on PPV.
I think it'll be Mayweather in three. He's just too fast.

I'd let them have their fun and go get a massage or something instead.
I watch a lot of sports, but I can't get into boxing or mma

I think we're going to go to a party where they're projecting it on the barn. I don't really know who is who and didn't even realize they were boxing people until today but there will be wine and caprese skewers so I'll go along and sit by the fire.

I used to (like, 20 years ago) watch a lot of boxing on TV, and go to bouts, so I'm going to say Mayweather. I've heard a lot of people say that this could be the end of boxing if a MMA fighter beats a boxer in a straight boxing match.

I'm aware of the match, the BBC have ramped up the coverage this morning. My DH is of the opinion that McGregor's lack of actual boxing experience will be telling but Mayweather is 40 and coming out of retirement. I know it's all for show but McGregor's antics are annoying me.
I do wonder how the sport of Boxing will cope if a non-boxer wins.

I know it's on - it's hard to miss with all the media coverage - but I don't know anything more than that. I don't even know what MMA means! I thought they were both just boxers and wondered why all the hype. I used to watch boxing more when I was a kid - there was a show on Australian TV called 'TV Ringside' which my dad watched every week - but haven't really been interested in it since Mohammed Ali retired.

The hotel we are currently staying in has a big event planned around watching this fight (stupid o'clock in the morning due to time zone) and just from reading the newsletters, stuff at the head of the iPad menus and the default screen on the TV I have picked up the hype. My DH says it is more of a stunt than a fight. Apparently boxing purists are outraged? As a side note, how klassy these guys are- one of the featured stories had a pic of the special "pin-striped" suit McGregor wore to one of the press conferences to even things up on the klassy front, Mayweather is a convicted domestic abuser and spent last night getting lap dances? They deserve each other. Tuning out of the hype now although the event seems to be getting started over here.

I detest boxing. I don't understand why people would give a penny to a sport where 90% of participants sustain a traumatic brain injury.

McGregor is so full of himself and condescending to his opponents. I hope he gets his ass whooped.

I voted what fight even though I know about it and know that it's between an MMA fighter and a boxer. And if the boxer wins it will be Vegas' biggest loss ever. Years ago we were off to Vegas and I was at the bank taking out some US money and the tellar asked me if I was going to any MMA I was just like my SIL worked at the next till and said that's fighting, and no that isn't her thing.

I'm aware of its existence due to the sports media coverage, but have never watched a boxing or MMA match & don't gamble. While I'm not invested in the winner, I'd expect the career boxer to win at his sport, even at 40 yo.

A month or two ago ds asked if we could pay for it, so we now have about fifteen 16/17 y.o.'s coming over to watch it. I told ds to go to the store to buy chips and snacks, and we'll order a bunch of pizzas. It's gonna be past my bedtime so it's on dh's watch, lol.
I knew there was a fight, recognized the names, but didn't put together it was a boxer vs. MMA. I could care less about it, or the outcome.
I used to watch fights all the time, going to bars that were having Tyson, and other fights. Once Tyson bit off Evander Holyfield's ear I was disgusted and done.

My dh and his buddies ordered the fight. They'll be watching out in the shop/man cave. I could give a crap less about it. My dh watches non PPV MMA when they are on and always asks if I want to watch and I'm just not into it anymore. I hope it's a decent fight though for those watching. I hate when they aren't competitive.
We used to watch boxing back in the 90's, but gave up after 2 of the fights ended in the early rounds. It wasn't worth the money, even with a group of people. I think the Tyson fight, when he bit Holyfield's ear was the last one we watched on Ppv in 97.

I seriously dislike both fighters. I am an ardent MMA fan but have never liked McGregor. I refuse to put any of my money towards watching certain fighters. Jon Jones is another MMA fighter who comes to mind and is absolutely disgraceful. Anyway, I'm unrealistically hoping for a double knock out because neither deserve to "win". 😄

I haven't watched a boxing match since Tyson bit off Holyfield's ear - so not a huge fan (unless the Rocky movies count?) I don't follow MMA but DH does so I do know who McGregor is. We have a table reserved with 10 friends at a small sports bar nearby. I'm looking forward to it - the guys are all stoked and there's been so much hype. It'll be a fun get together if nothing else. I won't be betting bc I just don't know how to play this one. McG could easily lose his temper and throw out a kick and get disqualified in the first round...but maybe he's gotten himself a little more disciplined in his boxing training? Mayweather is undefeated but he's 40 and retired...McG's youth probably has a fair amount of weight. I think it's a toss up - too many variables for me to make a call! Don't know but I'm getting my rest in now for a late night -- and DS (20) is DDing so I get to cut loose a little!

I will eat my goddamn hat if Mayweather doesn't win this fight. It's the first fight of his that I've ever actually wanted him to win.

Mayweather is going to crush him. McGregor has never properly boxed before, and won't be able to use his legs. That said, I have affection for McGregor, and hope he goes down quickly. I have a feeling it will be a quick match, so people might be disappointed. That said, I wish I was watching it.

A lot of people (me included) think that McGregor is pretty disrespectful for thinking he can come into a new sport and beat a boxer with over 20 years of experience, who many people consider to be one of the best boxers to ever live and certainly the best of my generation (and believe me, I have very little love for Floyd Mayweather). Some boxing fans may be pissed at Floyd for taking this fight, but I don't blame him, I wouldn't pass up that money either.

I voted other. I know about the fight as I read the sport's page of our paper while I eat breakfast every day. Having said that, I would rather have a root canal than be made to watch a fight. Oops, maybe that is extreme since DH is having a root canal on Monday.

I picked what fight because I don't care and really only know about it from SNL.
But if I was forced to predict an outcome I'd say Mayweather will win because McGregor will get himself DQ'd for kicking or something. MMA instincts aren't easily swept aside to adhere to the rules of boxing.
But I really don't care. No way am I spending money on it either

I don't care for boxing or MMA, but because of all of the hype and the fact that I have nothing better to do I checked the PPV price. OMG- $100 to watch??? Guess I find something else to do - I don't want to see it that bad!

If it were an MMA-style fight with ground fighting, Mayweather wouldn't last minute. As they are boxing, Mayweather will take it.
