Wow, I love this place. We resent the people who paid to help keep the site running like we're accustomed to. Also, clicking on a picture takes too long. Awesome.
(By the way, thanks to the admin and those who contributed.)

A click is pretty easy, but I'm conditioned to do that because I do most of my surfing on my phone.

Maybe the Hoff eating a Jell-O mold while surfing and NSBR and clicking on pictures to see them better! :-)

Well it certainly shouldn't cause drama. Who would be upset that the 1st 18 people who could offer $5 and were online at the correct time get a little banner? There are far more and bigger things done and said here to start drama...please let us focus on those and let's drop this one. ETA - I neglected to also say a big thanks to the Admin. It is greatly appreciated and you do a good job IMO of keeping control and not having control. Exactly this. Thank you all for stepping up so quickly!!!

annabella, I see what you're saying... clicking on the photos, then having to click the 'back' button to get back to reading the thread. I have to admit, I don't really like the 'site supporter' badge either, since it does have a bit of a us/them connotation- TO ME. That's on me, I own it. And my BF would hate it if someone gave him a RAK of a free breakfast-- he just doesn't like feeling like he 'owes' people, in general, at all, ever. Guess I don't much like it, either, since the site supporter badge kind of rubs me the wrong way. lol.

I knew as soon as the banner issue came up this was where this would go. I don't care about the banner. I didn't attempt to pay so i'm not feeling stiffed. But i've been here long enough to know this is going to be an epic thread.

I really don't care how people post things. If I'm on my computer, it's quick to click on a photo and then click the back button. If I'm on my phone, I just pinch the screen to enlarge it. Some people have trouble figuring out how to post photos. I'm just happy to see the photos being shared. It's ok if you just scroll on by.

Huh, and here I thought maybe those who contributed would have wanted to remain anonymous, guess I was wrong. I truly don't care either way, but I do want to say Thank You to all those who helped. well, I didn't know there would be acknowledgment on my profile and I wouldn't have raised my hand and shouted "it was me!I gave $5!!!!" But I also don't care that anybody knows. I use this site a lot (as my post count can confirm) and I was on the board and willing to contribute. I think the way admin did it was admirable. She figured out how much she needed and cut it off at that using PayPal. She could have collected from everybody who offered, not done the badge and kept the overage which could have been hundreds or thousands of dollars. Doing it the way she did and adding the badge shows that she only took enough to cover the cost. There is no conspiracy and no want to show people up. I wouldn't have even noticed had this thread not popped up. And yeah, I could eliminate the badge and may do so in the future, but I'm sure that would draw questions as well.

Thanks to everyone who contributed and to Admin for setting up the Fotki account. I was all set to donate and by the time I made it back to the thread it was all paid up. I sent $5 to an animal shelter in Houston in place of my 2Peas donation.
I'm not the least bit miffed or upset about the banners, it was such a small amount of money it isn't surprising it was raised so quickly.

But i've been here long enough to know this is going to be an epic thread. Exactly. I could care less about the banner. I could care less about having the ability to post pictures or badges or avatars or whatever. I don't do that here, but if others want to, that's great. I don't feel slighted for not being able to help admin defray the costs but I do think admin does a spectacular job and deserves oodles of thanks. I also think that eventually this will become some kind of issue that some people didn't support the cause and they're penalized/judged in some way because of it.

I can't imagine that not being one of the 18 is going to get you judged. It sounds more like the 18 are going to be judged.

Thanks to admin, and thanks to the 18. Thanks to everyone who posts pictures in whatever way they know how. I was not on the boards when the call came out, so I will continue to participate in the board w/ my sarcasm, worthless info, and occasional recipe. Wear your site supporter badges with honor. Peace, Love, and Scrapbooking.

It's hard to read with all the colors on a blue background. So people are contributing money so they can continue to upload tiny pictures to their posts? And in turn the admin has a list of those people's names and addresses? People contributed so EVERYONE can add pictures to their posts, including **your** peacock avatar. It takes money to run this board and all of its functions. Up to this point admin has been shouldering the full cost alone. A change in photobucket's policy means we lose the place hosting the smilies and avatars. She asked if some of us would consider helping pay the cost of hosting so we keep the smilies, the personal avatars, sigline images and anything else ANYONE wants to post. The admin now knows my name but does not have my address. My personal avatar is NOT hosted at Photobucket. It's not hosted anywhere. It's saved on my iPad an uploaded directly to my profile.

If I had just skipped over this post I never would have noticed the banner. Sometimes things should just be left unsaid.

Unless we don't allow that to become an issue. Even if the 18 were to lord it over us (which I doubt they will), we are thousands next to the 18. We, as a group, don't have to allow any "privilege" to come of being one of the 18. I'm one of the ones who offered money, but I was too late to make the first 18. It's all ok. I wanted to support this place if the Admin needed money. But I have A LOT of other places to spend my money. I'm ok with missing out on the banner. And would like to offer a big thank you to those who stepped up so quickly to keep us running smoothly!

*Should* it matter? No. But let's be realistic. This is the NSBR. And those who have been here any length of time know they should just put their big girl panties on and deal with it. It was strictly a timing issue. If you happened to be on the board when the call went out for assistance, then sent a message to admin , you had the chance to contribute. This is one of those time where we here at NSBR like to say "life isn't fair". As voltagain pointed out, we did this so the entire board could benefit. I've never seen so many people get pissy over the fact that they couldn't contribute $5 to an anonymous person via PayPal. If ya'll really want to relieve yourselves of $5, please make a donation to the relief efforts of Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma or any one of the many disasters currently occurring in the world. Best idea here. Everyone do it. Send it to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) or PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance), my two favorite disaster relief organizations.

Ah Peas. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
I'm tired so I'll keep this as brief as I can.
Whilst well-intentioned, there is bit of misinformation on this thread, so I'll try to clarify. - The photo hosting that's just been paid for to replace Photobucket is where we (will) keep smilies, anniversary badges, badges from the old board, and any other images used across the whole site. They don't take up much space but as every page that's loaded tends to have many of them they use a lot of bandwidth. - Signature images are either hosted somewhere by the individual user, and/or are the badges mentioned above, which anyone can use. There's no option to upload signatures here. - Avatars are either hosted somewhere by the individual user, or uploaded directly to Proboards. There's no cost for the latter. - Images in posts are again either hosted somewhere by the individual user, or uploaded to Proboards and added as an attachment to the post. We have limited but generous free space for attachments - when we run out old / irrelevant images will be deleted to make space for newer ones. Attachments are uploaded full size, the software only displays a thumbnail version in posts initially (most likely to save on bandwidth by only showing the full size to those who request it). To see the full size version you just need to click on it, and my preferred method is to open in a new tab.
As for the banner, I didn't see it as substantially any different than our posting ranks or anniversary badges - all visible ways in which we differentiate between ourselves. It was intended as simply a way to acknowledge that a few people did something nice for us all. More fool me.
Drama of some kind follows just about everything I do here - too many people with too many views for me to ever please everyone. I'm used to it. Whatever. But it seems to me pretty sucky to make people who by pure chance happened to be in a position to help feel at all bad for doing so.
Eh. I don't do brief.
