I think Ali doing DITL this way is really narrow minded. Basically if you don’t want to document your day hourly or by morning/evening/afternoon it sounds like her kit would be a waste. Having just one album makes sense, I guess, but it doesn’t sound like there is much room with the kit for variation on how it’s documented. Seems to me it's a way to make it a bigger thing/profit generator. I mean, you don't need a separate album to document a day. But if you do it hourly, you need more pockets, and even dividers, right? Ca-ching! Inked is smart. But not so smart if people like me dont end up purchasing anything because of how its been done. I can tell you 1000% I will not buy this release. SO instead of them getting $30 or whatever I normally spend on a kit + embellishments, they will get nothing.

But there are enough fan girls who will buy everything and be grateful for it. Also, I think that Ali's stuff is visually becoming a hybrid of studio calico style, with Ali touches. I'm not saying that's bad, but I see more control and influence by Inked as they develop a bigger revenue stream. And they are pricing me out of the kit market at this point. Hopefully she will add some smaller shop releases this year. I miss her artsier layouts for sure though.

The one thing that’s always bugged me about the hourly approach is, if you sit in front of a computer for work for eight hours a day (like I and many others do) there’s not many ways to document this creatively.

I'm waiting to see what it will look like, but for a project to go from $20 (two DITL kits) to $63, I'll probably just recreate what I can and play along without the product. Unless it's too good to resist! Same here. I am def not getting the album... cute as it is, and most likely not getting the kit. I don’t normally like the hourly approach because I work at a desk all day, but I broke my shoulder/am awaiting surgery and this DITL will be different for sure lol.

The kit maybe. The album is an automatic no now that I see it. I don't want something branded to a project. Because if I fail the project I now have to deal with covering or painting the album and for the cost nope.
If I did it. I use the hourly for quick vacations. Last year I flew to Chicago for 36 hours to see Wrigley. I went to Disneyland for 18 hours and using the hour is a fun way to document those, but my daily life. It just doesn't work.

Sneak posted. Thanks for posting this. I'm not in the market for her product anyway, but all I can say is eh, yawn, no thanks. "Most loved piece of today" stamp that will be used once in the project at most? (I wouldn't use it at all - the wording is just awkward to me), and number stamps we all probably have in our stash somewhere? (they just look really familiar to me) Nothing looks particularly cool or fun or exciting... I don't know. If this is the best stuff ? -meh-

The stamp will not be used enough to justify its cost in the kit. And there were similar number stamps I believe in last years kit? I could have that wrong as its late here, but they look familiar.

Where was the sneak posted? It's not on her blog or Instagram (unless I missed it). Stupid business move to think people want to chase them around every form of social media.
This release pushed me into the I am over AE products camp. Her product has lost all appeal for me. It has become too homogenized with SC and now feels mass produced and cheap. AE used to have more of a unique vibe that has slowly been fading and has now completely disappeared. I'm sure SC/Inked is all about streamlining and mass producing the same over and over, but it got real old real quick. I'll be spending my craft $$ elsewhere.
I would hazard a bet that we continue to see less sold out products as other customers lose interest in the new look and feel of her products. The once inimitable AE has had some real flops recently.

And I’m sure she’ll blame her customers for not buying her stuff. That seems to be the inked party line. I’ve thought for awhile that Ali’s stuff looks pretty much the same, with the colors changed up. She’s definitely not a pattern artist. You can only use so many type based items (her specialty I guess) before it starts to feel Samey.

I'm lost with the new DITL offer and pricing. How much would a DITL 2019 album/project à la AE cost in total?
(not that I'm interested in buying, just calculating how much these simple projects are adding up to this year since it's starting to all seem very expensive)

I thought that was very telling for someone who's job is TO DESIGN things.

I can’t get over the new (?) cursive font used in the DITL kit. It isn’t her handwriting, but it just doesn’t feel like something that is appeasing to the eye or high design for a “graphic artist.” It looks cheap. Other designers do typography better. AE is just riding her name/brand at this point.

She started scrapbooking and incorporated her education into her pages which everyone went nuts for. So saying designing is her least favorite is very telling indeed. I mean what else is there? She doesn’t seem to like scrapbooking either. So that leaves what, feet pictures?

When does the DITL stuff go on sale? Never mind, I see the time now. I incorporated DITL with my PL, but I'm not doing an album this year.

The cloth 3x8s have run 19.99, so $18 worth of transparencies?). $63 total, for two days of documenting and what used to be quick projects you could add to a PL album (for $10/ea), are now extended to fit their own 3x8 album. My question is... Why? Not like she seems excited by it either. Just seems like a revenue generator. Always gotta have a kit coming out now. It's a buzz kill for me. And I agree the design is not really inspired. I wonder how much WITL will add up to at this rate?

They've got to be making up for loss of casual customers + subscribers by offering (only) the extended pack of the AE project kits these days. It started with the DD shipping format last year and has been a repeat feature since. I'm guessing they're calculating they can make as much money provided the core audience/fangirls continue to buy whatever she puts out? And when they're all out of pocket money, they'll cycle back to cheaper kits to win back people who walked away a while ago (like many of us ended up subscribing to SbtM when it first launched).

Same. I've tried to find creative ways to fill it though, like lunch break takes up one of the hours, maybe have some meetings and then otherwise focus on other things, like one hour I just talk about what I'm wearing or something. "Most loved piece of today" stamp that will be used once in the project at most? (I wouldn't use it at all - the wording is just awkward to me), and number stamps we all probably have in our stash somewhere? (they just look really familiar to me) At least they spelled piece correctly.

yep, I was able to pass on everything. I may look at the price of the digital kit once it is out, I really like the black/white circles, but I could easily stamp/emboss something similar also. The colors ruined a lot of the rest of the kit for me.

OK, for kicks I went to see the DITL kit. Only 6 3x4 cards? And two of them don't allow for real journaling? Nope. Nope. Nope.
But if anyone is interested, the 20% code works from what I am reading on Instagram. THANKS20

There is almost nothing in that kit and it's too specific for the 3x8 size. So it all was an easy pass. Which is a big deal for this product fan girl.
There are more 3x8 journaling cards than there are slots in the album for. That's poor design/grouping IMO. The dividers have nothing really to do with the hour by hour so I'm really confused as to why they're offered at all and why there are sooo many of them.
I sill have stuff from last year's DITL and bought the digital kits when they went on sale last year. So I'll just use those if I decide to do DITL this year.

I lurk in this thread having been a long time Ali observer and supporter, however I don't really buy physical product. I think I've purchased 2 kits ever (DITL and WITL, each once.)
The other day I was actually looking thru one of her books she had out "A Designers Eye" and I was thinking how much I miss the good content classes, with instruction and structure and such. Some of the classes were so good, but these follow along projects, just meh. I know the hobby has just changed some, there isn't much new things to say I guess.
I was actually looking thru my albums yesterday, and my favorite DITL was a mini 4x4 album in which I mostly used 4x4 photos and stamped the date directly on them. I also had some other configurations of 4x4 pp (I think from heidi swapp?) where I put mini photos or small elements from the first DITL kit Ali offered with the date stamp.
No matter which way you cut it, I don't think the quality is really there with the physical products and I would rather just use what I have in my stash or print digital products onto heavier cardstock.

@st.inkedBrands the sneak was on her FB group.
Dissecting the release: I don't totally hate the new kit, but I'm not a huge fan either. I think the value is close-ish to the $25 price, although the $10 kits were a little bit more value. But I don't think she's stealing money and running away either.
In general, I think the 3x8 size is very limiting. Not everyone wants to document in this size, and a lot of people like to include DITL or WITL in their regular PL albums. So not having 4x6 cards or more 3x4 cards (or including digitals) is a big miss for me.
I like the colors better than the thematic/seasonal ones that she sometimes puts out (like the Fall 2018 oranges and browns were eh). And I don't mind the script font — a nice change from typewriter font or her handwriting.
I find those chipboard pieces to be ok but way too large to use easily in a 3x8 format. I feel like they should be smaller.
