After thinking about the issues I would have needing to unlock the iPhone X during driving - either having to have my face in front of the phone or inputting my 6 digit passcode - I decided to go with the 8+ this year.
I am on the ATT yearly NEXT plan, so was up for a new phone. Since I am only using 50GB of my 128GB 7+, I decided to go down to the 64GB. There is no way I need 256GB - big mistake to do away with 128, IMO. So, my monthly payments actually dropped $3.50. I can live with that.
So, I have a Gold 64GB 8+ coming next Friday. I wish they were doing Rose Gold for the new phones, but no such luck.
Anyone else order a new iphone today?

I'll be ordering the 256 GB X. I have a 256 GB 7 Plus now and have about 220 GB of content on it, so I definitely will use the space.
Also bummed about no rose gold - I'll be getting white.

I'm probably skipping this year. I have a 7+ and I have the upgrade program through Apple. The 8+ doesn't have any amazing new things that aren't in the software update. I'm really interested in the X but will wait till next year when they fix anything that turned out hinky.

I can't upgrade until the middle of November, so that is actually good because it will give me time to decide what I want (8S or X) and I'll be able to hear first hand reports of the X. Unlocking the X phone while driving is not an issue for me since I don't use my phone while driving and it is against the law anyway out here. I do wonder though what if the faceID glitches and can't recognize you! LOL!
I have a 64GB 6S right now, and I have to keep an eye on how many videos and photos I have because I am constantly close to running out of space. I don't know if I'll get a 64GB again, or go bigger.

Once I figure out where to preorder (Sprint or Best Buy) I will be getting the 8+. I agree about the hassle of facial recognition. I don't want to have to raise the phone up to my face every time I want to use it.

It does look very tempting. But I am a get every drop of ketchup out of the bottle girl. So I am going to wait until my 6s is dead. I just bought a loopy case for my phone and I highly recommend it. I use to drop my phone every day and now that I have a loop to hold on to I haven't dropped it since. Jen

I love that you can use any Qi charging pad - it doesn't have to be an Apple charger. I can't upgrade until the middle of November, so that is actually good because it will give me time to decide what I want (8S or X) and I'll be able to hear first hand reports of the X. I play music off my phone while driving, listen to audiobooks, use Waze, etc. So, while I'm not texting, I do need to unlock my phone from time to time while driving. Unfortunately they are only offering 64 and 256GB for storage. It sounds like you will need the bigger one, though. I don't do video on my phone, so I'm okay there.

Nope. I'm keeping my slide phone and spending my money on a second vacation of the year. Good gracious they are making bank on these high cost phones! These phones almost seem disposable with so many people needing to upgrade all the time.

I am an Android girl and just got the 8+ so no dog in this fight. elaine, you mentioned the cordless charging. I got that with this phone and I am in love. I found a charger for $10 at Walmart and it works just great on it. This is the first time I have splurged on a phone. Good luck with y'alls decisions.

When it's time for an upgrade (sometime next spring) I'm going for the X. It doesn't bother me about the facial recognition or 6 digit code to unlock the phone. I never use it for anything while I drive (it's too much of a distraction and driving is hard enough where I live). The camera on it sounds awesome!

I've had a 6 for three years and am upgrading to the 8+.
Now to find a case. I liked the Speck Candyshell Grip, but the colors they currently offer are boring.

Quick question... how long does the pre-order last? Or does it just continue until the release date?

This last release is so ridiculously overpriced on the backs of underpaid workers, I decided to switch to an Android. I'm pretty much over Apple. And watching the mess they're making of my home town seals it. Done and done. Apple is dead to me.

But if you think that Samsung and other Android phone manufacturers produce their phones any differently, they don't. As far as overpriced, the base prices for Apple's new models are $699/$799/$999. Samsung's comparable models are $756/$840/$960

I was thinking about upgrading my Samsumg S5 to the S8 in a couple of months when my plan runs out, but now I'm wondering whether I should wait for the iPhone X instead. I haven't looked into the X yet, I'd be interested to see how they compare in both features and price (Samsung and iPhone). I have no particular loyalty to either brand. I really only want a great camera.

My 8+ actually cost less than my 7+ (But with less memory), so I don't think there was much of a price increase for the 8+. My 7+ a year ago was $879, so the X isn't that much more expensive especially given the new tech. That said, we all have lines we won't cross, so understand deciding it was/is enough. I'll be interested in hearing how you like an android after you've had one a while.

DH ordered the 8+ 256 for me today. It's a belated big birthday gift.
The plan is to get this now, and upgrade in 12 months to the X.
I'm so excited... In spirit, I'm an early adopter, but financially have always had to wait a year or two to get a new edition phone/tablet/computer. I currently have a 6.
Not this time!

I still have a 5s and it's dying. I have to charge the battery twice daily. Apple suggested resetting it to see if that would help the battery since their tests showed no battery problems. It hasn't so I'm thinking an upgrade is in my near future. But it won't be the 8. Probably a 7 and I'll gag all the way through the process because those phones are so grossly overpriced it isn't funny. I checked the Verizon website and the price of the 7 has dropped so I may go next week and see about upgrading. And I'll give them hell for not giving a discount if you pay the whole amount up front. My son keeps telling me to go to an Android, but I bought an Android tablet a few years ago, kept it for 48 hours, reset it to factory settings and took it back and exchanged it for an iPad. I don't think I'd be happy at all with an Android phone.

I just upgraded to a 7+ because I dropped my old 5 version.. I think it was a 5? lol.. But I am the one to use it till it dies.. DIE DIE DIE.. I keep really good care of my phones, except once I forgot I left it in a bag and apparently I kicked the crap out of it all day long under my desk. I about died when I realized my phone was the target of my foot. And this last time about 2 weeks ago, I took off my case for whatever reason and couldn't get it back on. I had to go to work and right there on the cement it just fell and the whole screen came off.. I could pop it back in but the button was all messed up.. but it was really old and NO memory... 16GB (or whatever it is called).. every time I took a picture I had to delete 3 of them... such a pain. So yeah I plan on having this one for many many years.

I'm due for an upgrade from the 6+. I thought I was going to go for the 8+, which I'd be fine with. After looking at the features of the X, I'll probably hold out for that. It's a little smaller than the plus, but the screen size is similar. I can't decide if the face recognition is convenient or annoying. The camera is the main reason I want to upgrade, but there.are other new technology benefits that appeal to me, too. I'm also bummed that they don't have Rose Gold or 128 Gb. Can I go back to plain silver or gold? Yuck.

I have a 6s plus and was waiting to see the new phones before I decided what to upgrade to. I've been going back and forth but I really think I'm going to go with the 7 plus. I don't think I see enough differences that matter to me between the 7 and 8. So I THINK that's what I'm going to do.

I have an S6 Edge right now and I paid cash up front for it (I hate paying monthly), so I'm not really ready to upgrade, but when I do, I'm going for the Note I think because of the way that I use my phone (not for calls). Okay - back to Apple talk!

I can't decide if the face recognition is convenient or annoying. I have it on a Microsoft Surface Pro and I swear it's the best thing ever. But I can see how it would be a pain for someone who does use it will driving. I don't use my phone that way, so I'm hoping by the time I am ready to upgrade mine, it will be an option on Android. It was one of those things they mentioned when I bought my Surface Pro and I thought it was an unnecessary gimmick but I love it.
