I live on the Canadian prairies, so the furnace never gets turned off! 😉 Our thermostat is programmable so the air conditioner and furnace each kick in at preset temps--we've needed heat a couple times in the last week or two ... but we've needed air, too ... fall is so all over the place! You speak my language! My next house will have a thermostat like that! Air or heat depending.

Funny thing that happened to us - we had our ac/heating system checked this past spring after being in our house for 2 years. Found out that our heater wasn't even hooked up. Yes, 2 winters in the house and have never turned the heater on. LOL, that's my kind of winter! Whaaaaat? Â Where do you live? In Cape Coral - SW FL. We do have one space heater we turned on for a little while to take the chill off a couple of nights in 2015. We did have the heater hooked up... just in case. Hope to never use it tho. I like wearing my flip flops all year.

I'm in Texas. I doubt if we will need to turn the heat on in my part of the state for at least a few more months. I'm currently sitting here in a pair of shorts and a tank top with the AC blasting.

Ah ha ha, no. It was in the low 90s today, we have a mild week ahead but late September-early October usually will go above 100 at least a couple times. The heat won't be turned on (well, we actually only have a fireplace lol) until around Halloween typically.

I don't think I will until it gets below 60 in the house. We had an insanely cold winter last year and it's predicted to be cold again this year and I am not ready for the heating bills that we had last year $600, a month.

The house has to be below 57 for me to consider turning the heat on for a minute. I hate the heater. I like being a little cold. It'll be January before it could possibly be an issue though. With our weather today, it will be next week. Our fall is always a little all over the place. One day 58 degrees and the next 88. We get that range in a single DAY here. I hate trying to decide what clothes to put out for my kid to wear to school at this time of year because what will keep her warm enough waiting outside for the school bus in the morning will surely be too hot when she's sweltering on that same bus coming home in the afternoon! It's crazy. I don't care if it's hot or cold, I can prepare for either. But I really hate it when you get both in the same freaking day.

Los Angeles here so no. But I usually put flannels sheets on starting November 1st because I like to sleep with all the bedroom windows open.

It has to be in the 30s or 40s outside for it to get below 57 inside the house. Yes, I realize that, but we'll be close in a matter of weeks. Our nights are already low 50's.

Somehow that always seems to get involved in year round warm weather.

It isn't odd for us to have a snow day/negative 20 one day and the next be wearing shorts. I do love that about our weather. The snow rarely stays for more than two days.

I consider today the first day of fall because it was the first day I put on jeans since the summer heat started. We've enjoyed about a week of cooler (under 80) weather but it looks like the heat will be back next weekend. We typically get one or two heat spells in the fall that we can Santa Ana winds. The winds move from land to water and are very hot and dry vs the cooler and damper water to land winds.
We don't usually turn on heat until mid to late december. But we have had some warm winters where we are celebrating xmas in shorts so it just depends.

Well, I live in a place where I usually don't turn the heat on at all during the year. Maybe a couple of days in January/February but that is it. I'm super jealous of you with cooler fall temps. It's supposed to be 105 today and the humidity was 80% when I woke up. I pretend by burning fall candles!

Absolutely not. if we ever needed the heat this early in the year I'd be curled up in a corner crying. We still have window fans running and we even still have the window a/c unit in, just in case.

We've been as low as 45 at night here in the last month but we have not turned on the heat and kept the windows open!
I won't turn on the heat until after November 1st--I absolutely refuse lol!! And when it gets turned on it's never set above 65.

Nope. This past week was the first time in a long time that the temps have been below 100F. No need for heat when the outside temperature is 97F!

I remember the days of oil heat when dad lit the furnace and the house took on that "certain smell" of burning oil. Whenever we watch A Christmas Story and the dad goes into the basement to fix the oil burner, I think of my dad.

My house has no heat source. At one time it had a wood stove in the living room but not when we bought it. Our house in Tarpon Springs had a fireplace. We are putting in Mini Splits within the next year. What are mini splits?

Same here. High of 89 today with 96% humidity. I work at a school & we just had a fire drill. I'm melting!

It was nicely chilly and cloudy yesterday, so DH turned the heat on for a while. He wanted to start a fire in the fireplace while watching football, but didn't. It's supposed to be back in the 80's again today.

For a week, we had to turn the heat on at night to keep the house above 60. And then summer returned and we're back to using the A/C. We have window units (older house, 2 story) and had put away the one for living room. One look at the forecast and I begged dh to put it back. This week is going to be mid to high 80's. It sucks watching the kids in their polyester black marching band uniforms when it's 80 out. Some of them are stinky already!

We are at the other end of winter and it is nearly time to switch the heating off.
I will be so glad - I'm one of those people who likes to open windows and doors so to have the house closed up of weeks on end is not my favourite time of the year. Don't get me wrong I love nothing more than being at home in the warmth it is just the general mood of winter that I'm well and truly over.
Mind you it won't be long until we are complaining about the heat - some of us are never happy!

We've been using the furnace for more than a week Ok I don't feel badly then! It was just one day for us. It's not warm outside today but it's not terrible either. We did get a bit of rain which is good for us. We still need more.

I long for the in between days where we need neither AC nor heat! Last week after Irma came through it was like fall and we loved it. Today was a humid 90 and tomorrow will be even hotter 😩 I am so ready for fall!
