I just returned from an all day card making workshop. Loved it, loved the hostesses and the cards we made. However, did not appreciate the lady who had to counsel someone on the other end of her phone for an hour during the middle of the event. Yes, she went outside, for five minutes, then came back in and paced back and forth the length of the room. We were at little stations making our cards, so at least there was not someone leading and being interrupted in that way. I understand if there is an emergency, take it outside. Don't involve the rest of us in your business. OK rant over.

Your hostess should have said something. Otherwise, that's when I start to use my outside voice inside and turn up my music.
I am glad you enjoyed cardmaking, though!

I have to say that I am really kind of still shocked when someone decides to take personal call in a room full of people. Why? No one wants to hear what you are talking about and it ruins the vibe of what is gone on. Find a spot where you can still get your bars and get out of the room.

I'm astonished at how many people are on their phones in a public restroom! I hear it everyday at work. Not just personal calls, but calls to their dr., bank, etc. Why? Why? I don't want to hear their personal business and I'm sure the person on the other end doesn't want to hear all the toilets flushing.

I was at a crop today and one woman actually had a 5+ minute speakerphone conversation! Everyone in the room (we were in a hotel conference room) was forced to listen to every word. I don't understand why she'd think this was acceptable. Some people are just clueless, I guess.

Electronics have become so much a part of our lives that a lot of people have a primary relationship with that little block of metal and plastic and a secondary relationship with everyone and everything else.
When it bleeps (or whatever) it blocks out everything else, human or situational. They may no longer even be aware that they are at a craft day/ at lunch with an old friend/ whatever. The ultimate precedence of the urgent (only in the sense of immediate) over the important.

So many people talk sooooo loudly into cellphones as well.
I'll validate your complaint about the woman subjecting all of you to her conversation. Very rude of her.

I work a couple of days week in a clothing store. Last weekend a lady came in talking on her phone SO loud - she wandered the entire store and we could hear her from one end to the other. She was telling the other person that someone didn't want to mess with her because she would whoop their ass. It was as if she was showing off and wanted everyone to hear her. Other customers were looking at her and then rolling their eyes at us. She really made an ass of herself.

The local pharmacy that I use has a sign up saying "we know how important your call is to you, we will serve you when you have finished".
I guess the staff are tired of having part of a conversation with people who are talking on the phone.
Well played i say.

Customers would talk on the phone the whole way to being seated. Sometimes she would tell the customer to tell the person on the other end "hello" for her.

I would purposely start talking just as loud to the people around me. This is one of those times that it takes so little to fix a situation by just leaving the area.

My vet's office asks you to turn your ringer to silent when you are in the room with the vet. You have to wonder what made that sign appear. "Excuse me, dr., can you wait while my friend tells me about her weekend?"

I've had so many people do this while wanting something from me, but then shushing me when I greet them. Then expecting me to wait around until they've deemed it an ok time for them to talk. It's maddening.

I work in Radiology, when I go out to the waiting room to call a patient if they come towards me, but are still talking on their phone I politely tell them to sit back down and I’ll be back for them later after they’ve finished their conversation. The majority hang up immediately, but if they don’t, I’ll keep going on to the next patients until we get a few minutes ahead and can fit the “talker” back in. Makes me nuts.

It drives me batty when someone has a lengthy cell conversation at our crops. Makes me feel like all the rest of us need to be quiet so as to not disrupt their conversation and I hate that. You can take the cell out of the room. The other 10 of us shouldn't have to stop talking.

I think it's also because if the customer is on the phone and then there was any problem with the purchase it's harder to debate about who said what if the customer was distracted on the phone.
