I finally had time to work on my Christmas journal! I got mostly caught up with the last 8 days. I'm trying to keep it simple, and the journal I'm using is lining up quite nicely with my days and prompts (it's a Pink Paislee Yuletide Christmas journal). I'm mixing it up so it's partly stories about the day, and partly responses to Shimelle's prompts, with some influence from the existing printing on the journal pages where that fits in with one or the other.
Now all I need is some light so I can take photos or do a video flip-through to share. These days when the sun sets around 4:15pm are challenging.

I got a title page and Dec. 1st done on Friday evening. I do have a few pics printed and some supplies gathered in an Iris box. Didn't do foundation pages, but have an idea of colors/what plans cards to use. Wasn't sure I was actually going to do DD this year in spite of my large Christmas stash. I am encouraged!

I don't print at home, so this year I've been uploading a couple days at a time and ordering same day pick up from Walgreens, which I can then swing by on my way home. It's helped keep me excited about the project and made it more manageable to work in chunks, unlike last year where I waited until the end of the month and ordered all my prints at once. Excited to have some time tomorrow to keep playing.

So I have days 1-4 completed, but days 5-yesterday morning (the 10th) were SUPER BUSY, which is good for collecting stories, but not working on my album. So I came home last night and came up with a great plan to finish the pages up through today and then... my photo printer died. Like, it's 100% gone, can't recognize cartridges or talk to my computer. I knew this was coming for awhile now because it's been having problems, but this time there was no temporary fix. I already placed an order for a new upgraded one on Amazon (which I'm excited about, now I'm going to be able to print 12x12!!) but it was pricey and the worst part is it is scheduled to be here sometime between the 15-20th I'm going to be so behind! I can only hope it gets here on the 15th so I have it for next weekend which was supposed to be a quiet weekend at home of baking, scrapbooking, and wrapping gifts. SaveSave

I just made a purchase for myself that is going to greatly help my crafting, including my DD. My computer is in the living room, while my printer is in the craft room. I keep my computer in the living room because my husband and I game together. So, when I print photos or journaling cards, there is a lot of back and forth from the living room to the craft room to load paper, print, reprint, etc...it's a pain. I've only gotten Days 1-3 done because of this. So, I just got a laptop...nice little HP laptop from BestBuy.com, and bonus 18 month no interest on my Best Buy card... Free shipping and it will be in my hands on Wednesday, which is the first day of my 3 1/2 weeks of Holiday leave. Happy Holidays to ME!!!

My youngest's favorite song is Jingle Bells. Here I am going through an Iris box full of Christmas themed papers and embellishments and the only bells I have are on a single 6x6 paper that I can't make work with what I've already started. *grins* Oh no, what terrible luck! Now you'll have to go purchase some new goodies... *joins in on the grinning* Now all I need is some light so I can take photos or do a video flip-through to share. These days when the sun sets around 4:15pm are challenging. Yikes, 4:15 is really early... Looking forward to seeing the first sneak(s) of your album! Yay! Another one bitten by the 2017 DD bug. My friend makes ugly Christmas sweater ornaments out of felt that are adorable! That sounds really cute. I hope you have one hanging in your tree! I am just glad I am getting into the DD spirit now! It wouldn't be the same if you didn't get in the DD spirit along with us all. I am delaying sharing more until I figure out a way to get earlier access to large photo prints. We were away this weekend so I look forward to documenting that in my album which is now affectionately being called "Dédé" (which is a familiar diminutive for the first names André and Didier) by my friends and fam'. They are literally asking me how Dédé is doing! Also, I find myself caring more about my DD/Dédé instead of preparing the little I'm in charge of for Christmas. Ahem.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying your DD mom. So sorry to hear about your printer issues lasteve1 but a 12x12 printer sounds amazing. I’m a couple of days behind with my album because things have got so busy again but that’s ok. I have ideas for stories and do have some photos I’ve taken so I just need to find a few minutes here and there to just actually get stuff written and printed.

So apparently I didn't anticipate the need I have for bells in documenting our December. I've got plenty of stars, snowflakes, ornaments, and even buttons! LOL My youngest's favorite song is Jingle Bells. Here I am going through an Iris box full of Christmas themed papers and embellishments and the only bells I have are on a single 6x6 paper that I can't make work with what I've already started. *grins* I'll have to see what I can come up with using my Silhouette or allow myself a trip to the craft store. Not sure where you are located, but Joanns has some of Tim Holtz jingle bells for 60% with another 20% off with a coupon code. SaveSaveThanks! I'll have to see if Michael's carries them. The local Joanns has very little in the way of scrapbooking stuff so they don't even carry Tim Holtz. I live in a rural area so it's at least a half an hour to get to anything besides a grocery store! LOL

I might be a bit behind... I didn't finish my 2 books before I left for Paris, but I at least have all the photos prepped for printing and all the journaling done. Right now we're cruising down the Rhine visiting Christmas markets. A few pages have built in wine stains!

I just finished working a little on my album tonight and I'm ready for bed now. I was finding myself really enjoying the process and wanting to go on after December with this type of creative 6x8 layouts/spreads. There's such a fun aspect to playing around with products and focusing on a story instead of condensing a week/month/trip into a spread. I'm not one for traditional SB layouts so this is a fun slightly different outlet for me.
Anyone ever wanted to document a year's worth DD-style? Considering how much I love minimal photobooks, I could see myself doing a parallel "Stories of the year"-centric album...

I've given up hope of my FJ parcel arriving. The 45 days is up on Christmas day after which they'll do something about it.
I need to do my album during Dec or it just won't happen so last night I sat down and pulled out a heap of embellishments from my stash to use in my slightly different than planned DD. There are a few embellishments that I know I want to include from my order so I'm filling my album with lots of post it notes so I can finish the pages once I finally get my stuff. It's surprisingly difficult to determine whether a page is "finished" when it's missing key pieces but I think I like how it's coming together.

joblackford your album is beautiful (and I love your Jack Skellington ornament!). Thanks The Jack Skellington was the best thing that came out of being sick and going to Urgent Care. I love him SO much. I do a Halloween tree (that becomes a fall/Thanksgiving tree and then a Xmas tree) and I want a whole tree full of Jacks next year. I'm sorry your FJ stuff has disappeared. That must be so frustrating. I'm glad you've come up with something workable from your stash. Hopefully the package will somehow appear before the season is over.

Chinagirl828 I'm so sorry your parcel has gone missing. I know the frustration all too well. I hope you'll end up getting your FJ goodies in the end to fill up all those empty spaces. 45 days is a looong wait, especially when the status updates have stopped all of a sudden several weeks back. *hugs* joblackford Took a peek at your IG and I really like the simplicity of the Pink Paislee December journal (and the pretty die-cut page)! The muted colours on the inside are also spot on. #alltheforestfeels Have you managed to lift some ideas from Ali's DD journal to add some prompts to yours? I love the idea that you're moving on easily each day but could also retrace your steps later on and add a stamped sentiment or extra embellishment here and there. By the way, I saw several The Nightmare Before Christmas ornaments at Disneyland last week... #alsoyestothatnarwhal

sleepingbooty I think you were the one who told me about the Yuletide album, so thank you for that. It's about 80% perfect - not quite my style, but not not my style either. I bought a bunch of Yuletide items last year and have some left over, and although they don't excite me, it really was a good solution. I like having a little decoration on the pages that I can work with if I want to. Between daily life and Journal Your Christmas' never ending prompts I have plenty to document, so I really didn't need Ali's journal. And (as I had the chance to express directly to her/Katie on IG) I just couldn't stomach that price point, no matter how clean and pretty. If they did a reasonably priced digital version (or a reasonably priced printed one!) I would have jumped on it because I really did like the style and idea. But I just couldn't stomach spending that much money on a journal. I guess I'm going to work in bursts because I haven't touched the journal since I worked on it the other day. Too many things to do!!!!

Anyone ever wanted to document a year's worth DD-style? Considering how much I love minimal photobooks, I could see myself doing a parallel "Stories of the year"-centric album... Well, I suppose that's exactly what I do. It's a 6ins high by 8 ins wide photobook, and this is my second full year. You see, oddly a 8 ins high x 6ins wide album style is all wrong for me to hold, which is why I have this size. I do the same format for WITL too, and have two books for that. I do everything digital for this, of course. I have templates I've made myself, complete with journal boxes, formatted with text to stop me procrastinating over font choice! I do occasionally throw in some full digital layouts, with papers and shadows and... stuff. In fact I made one today for this year's book... Here's a taster of pages and finished books from my blog posts: WITL 2017Yearly Book - Weeks 16-26

sleepingbooty I keep meaning to tell you, the 12 days to Christmas celebration on Hallmark channel starts tomorrow! (Wednesday) It annoys me every time, although at least they called it "12 days to" instead of "12 days of" We'll have to keep an eye out for other marketers trying to make Dec 13th into something it's not.

I am still working on getting caught up. I'm only 6 days behind now! LOL
Did you know you can get a 6s6 size printed at Walmart? You cant get it online, but if you go the store they will print it on demand. I was toying with the idea of just using my printer to print 6x8 or sending it off to get printed by Persnickity Prints, but didn't really want to wait to get that done. While the 6x6 size wont work on some templates, it will work on printing a bigger photo. I plan on just using some pattern paper on the top or bottom to make it the 6x8 size.
