Can it just be Sunday already??? I'm not one to wish away a weekend, but I can't wait for this episode!! Anyone else? I'm ready. I've scouted the internet, listed to podcasts, reread Claire's return to 1766... I've been thinking about this for weeks! Bring it on! I really, really wish that it was on Saturday instead of Sunday. We usually watch it Sunday afternoons with On Demand, because DH goes to bed at 9:15pm on work nights and it's on at 9pm here. I'm not waiting to watch it until the next weekend! But in my mind, it deserves it's own time for viewing, when the lights are low and I'm not distracted with making dinner or finishing up weekend chores. Especially this week! I like Sunday nights, things quiet down here quickly then. But I don't think I can wait, I need to find 79 quiet minutes before that and that is going to be a challenge. So which podcasts are you listening to. In my quest to find my replacement podcast to TSats here's my review of what I've listened to: The Official Outlander Podcast-goes without saying this is in my weekly rotation. I like Toni Graphia hosting it, there seems to be fewer dead spaces as there are when Ron Moore hosts (I think he gets engrossed in watching and forgets to talk-lol) Sex and Whiskey- I just don't like this. I think I miss the dialogue not to mention the f bombs and the speed at which she talks is annoying. Can I Just Say- Still hoping they add Allistair, but did not really like their podcast as much as I hoped. They are very articulate, but I decided they are way too critical. I want to listen to people who can point out a few negative things and not one that feels negative about the majority of it. A Dram of Outlander-snooooze. That was a waste of time. It was like listening to a meditation tape. Outlander Cast-I have been listening for a couple years. They are very chipper unlike the above mentioned podcast. But I think Blake is kind of a buffoon. I will tolerate it though. The Outlander Podcast- This one is new to me this year and they are growing on me. Sometimes they make some off the wall comments (like last episode and them wondering how long that lobster had been sitting out) and I kind of like that. They are book fans and die hard about the show so I think this will be my Tstats replacement. Save

Saturday night at 11:00 my butt will be parked in front of my TV, and my husband knows to go away. NO ONE is going to spoil this for me! I stay up late, and had forgotten this was a bye week. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I remembered last weekend!

FINALLY! What did y'all think? * Loved the set, again. It wasn't what I was picturing but is so beautiful and had so much depth! * Really liked the new older Fergus, but boy do I miss young Fergus. I just thought he was amazing. * Very happy with the portrayal of Mr. Willoughby so far. Did not care for his character or even much of his plot line in the books, this seemed less 'silly' so far. * Ian was okay, pretty neutral on him so far but he's a favorite character of mine so I look forward to watching him develop. * The aging on Jaime looked pretty good, not close to mid-40s, but I can see the progression. I think his hair helped. But Claire still looks exactly the same. She's supposed to be almost 50 I think. I hope my boobies look that good when I'm her 'age' And geez does she have beautiful skin! * Next week's episode looks good!

Be still my heart - I am so glad to see them back together again. Sam is just an amazing actor IMO. The print shop is much fancier than I imagined it - not sure why. I did like the actor portraying Willoughby, but I am not buying this actor for young Ian yet. I mean he seems like he's a decent actor in the short scene we get with him, but the look of him is just not right in my mind. Of course, Sam wasn't a dead ringer in my mind for Jamie either until about 5 minutes intp season 1 and he blew any other images in my mind out bc he was so perfect. I don't know how they could have aged these two better without them looking fake or overdone, but neither of them looks 5 years older to me, let alone 20! But I'm fine with all of it lol, I'm just glad they are back together again! DH is on the golf course this morning so I'll watch again with him when he gets home this afternoon to pick it apart some more, there was no way after the break I was going to be able to wait an extra 4 or 5 hours for him to get home. Ooh, and The Walking Dead is back tonight - what a good TV day! Woop!

So woke up early and dh was already downstairs so I check to see if it's on On Demand and like a kid on Christmas morning I pressed that play button like my thumb had a mind of its own. So I'm halfway through and my husband opens the door and it went down like this
He knew better, just did an about face and walked out. Lol.
I loved it. I will watch again later and come back to discuss.

I'm very disapointed that this week's episode was not on On Demand. Probably won't get to see it until next week. :-(

This is petty but why does a 16 yo (young Ian) have a receding hairline?
Mr. Willoughby was so much better than I expected. I read that this was a very difficult translation to screen - they didn't want to use racist tropes and the text seems to do just that.
Which brings me back to a different question that I can't remember from the books - do we yet have a resolution to the mystery of Joe Abernathy and Geillis Duncan?

Am I the only one who thinks they did a bad job of casting older Fergus? Wasn't he at the very least 10 years old when Claire left? He should be in his 30s now. That actor seemed early 20s.

Overall I really liked it, but I wish they hadn't inserted Jamie telling Claire about Willie after he'd first been learning about Brianna. It was such a departure from the book and really detracted from the scene I thought. That scene should have been just about Jamie, Claire, and Brianna.
I like young Ian already, I can tell I'll like him (and the actor playing him) much more than Brianna, but I liked him more in the books too. I wish they had kept in the book scene where Ian senior first sees Claire, but maybe they'll add it in the next episode. I'm still neutral on the new Fergus.

I really enjoyed the episode. I think Fergus seems appropriate for the amount of time that has passed, however I really really miss young Fergus, because he was such a cutie and a really good actor. I thought the bedroom scene was a little drawn out and almost a little dull. I guess I was hoping for something more passionate like the wedding episode. But again, I really enjoyed the episode as a whole.

What about Claire's hair???
It was a hot mess.
I guess it was supposed to be because she dyed it?

I didn't care for Claire's hair, but I thought Jamie's looked odd as well. Shouldn't Fergus have lost his French accent by now? It's been 20 years!

I LOVED it!
I was very happy that Jamie told Claire about Willy, I didn't like it kept a secret for as long he did in the book. I think there was some shortchanging in his emotion over seeing the photographs of Bree, but that was in the directing and editing, so that is where I lay the blame.
I like Fergus. In the book he was about 30 at this point, and Marsali was 15. They have made her a little older, and picked a younger actor, and it works for me.
I was fine with the aging--hated Jamie's hair. This production team is terrible with wigs and beards. Pube beard from last season should go down in history as THE WORST BEARD EVER.
Willoughby is so much better than in the book. BookWilloughby almost made me hate Diana Gabaldon, he was a racist cartoon of a character.
I'm so glad they the show dedicated so much time to the physical reconnecting of Claire and Jamie. It captured the awkwardness, love, tenderness, and passion that I imagined.

Has anyone been able to download the latest official podcast? It hasn’t uploaded to my app yet, but that podcast is always wonky so I’m wondering if it’s on my end or theirs.

Ugh, they take so long to upload that thing. It is frustrating. Glad to hear it’s them and not me, and I can stop frantically searching for it. 😄

I'm late to the party this week! Too many theatre seniors needing recommendations and photos of their work has kept me busy. As usual, I LOVED the episode and I've been thinking about it a lot all week! First, some links. I loved this analysis and Diana must have, too, because I found it from her Facebook feed : Half-Lives and Slow Burns. Here's the official episode recap from Outlander Community: Season 3, Episode 6. I'm amazed at how real Green Screen is these days. And there's a closeup of the Print Shop sign! And the Inside The World www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbyeUx2AQf4. I don't know why I can't find these on the Outlander site! I had read up some before the episode and reread Voyager last week, so I was READY! But really, it wasn't like I thought it would be, but it was perfect. I loved seeing all the little details of Jamie's life pre-Claire, and really loved the retelling of Claire's appearance through Jamie's eyes. I liked the slow tease of Jamie going to his appointment and meeting Yi Tien Cho. I really liked how they changed this from the books. He was a much more respectable individual and less the stereotype of a Chinese man in 18th century Edinburgh. And then the wedding night, part 2. Sigh. So lovely. Some parts did echo the wedding night, but it was so much it's own. I'm a military wife and have quite a few deployments under our belt after 27 years and this is what it felt like for me. The excitement of seeing each other, seeing how time has changed us, feeling the uncertainty of coming together again, getting to know each other and just the strangeness of seeing each other again... I thought they captured it all. From the previews, it does look like we see at least some of the book's next events. I'm curious to see what they kept and what they changed. DH and I were talking about what we thought they needed to keep to stay on the story line. But lets face it, a lot more happens in Voyager and there are only 6 more episodes to tell it! I do wonder why they aged Ian (maybe because of what happens to him in the next episode with "Mary?" I did like Fergus. We know from the books that he keeps his accent (and that's not unusual for immigrants). I did think he looked 30 and appropriately dashing. Let's face it, none of the show actors are really the right age. whisper: just let it happen... I did think Claire looked younger than in previous episodes. I wonder if that was to convey some vulnerability of the situation? Or maybe it's just the candlelight--we all look good under the wattage of a few candles.

I did try The Outlander Podcast this week and I liked the chatty parts, but there were FAR FAR too many reader's comments. Surely some of them could have been edited? Yes, we get it. Claire didn't see the lunar landing. Enough! But I do like the back and forth chat. As for Sex and Whiskey, I want to like it, but last week's was like Lani was reading from a script or book report and this week it was SO short. I'm not sure what's up with that. All I remember is Lani complaining about Jamie's drape/cape and I loved the cape/drape thing. What happened to the daughter who was supposed to be doing the podcast too? Although I'm not sure an 18 year old (didn't Lani say she was 18?) has the maturity or perspective to add much to the discussion. I was all set to listen to the official podcast while I was grocery shopping, but couldn't find it. Maybe next week, as I have a ton of photos to edit. I don't have a commute, so I don't have a good time to listen other than when folding laundry. I do agree with you about Ron Moore--I think he gets distracted and starts watching the show. But then, I know I would!

Watching today's episode now and it has strayed far from the book IMO. From the death of the exciseman in the book at Madame Jeanne's, Archibald Campbell (who does not fit the dour personality in the book at ALL) and his sister and Young Ian's first time with a girl, Claire meeting Ian again the first time...It's all way off base. If I hadn't read the books I'd be none the wiser I guess and the story flows fine, but as a devoted reader it feels like too much is changed. I do realize, of course, that they have to condense the story to get a whole massive book into one season AND convert it all from page to screen.
Eh, I'm just whining and i"m not even done with episode yet so maybe I'll feel better when it's over!
Can't wait to hear what you guys think! I'm going to stop pausing to type here and add more thoughts when I'm done...
ETA: Don't like this uncomfortable arguement/conversation with Jamie and Claire right now either. I do have some admiration for Jamie's Batman moves during the fire though lol
