I'm bringing over a meal to a friend going through chemo. She has requested tomato soup and grilled cheese. Seems easy enough, but I'm trying to figure out a way to get them there (4 sandwiches) without them getting soggy. I can only make 2 at a time in my largest pan and from door to door it's about 10 minutes. Any suggestions? I can package up the soup first, so ideas for best packaging material to get them there?

Is there any way you could have them made, but grill them at her house?
ETA, that is so nice of you!

The thing is, steam is what's going to make them soggy, and there will be steam because they are piping hot and getting wrapped in cool whatever.
But here are my best suggestions.
I would make each sandwich, set it aside to cool a bit, then wrap each one in tin foil. When you get to her place, turn on the oven (to like 350, you don't have to wait for it to get up that high), unwrap each sandwich and put it on a cookie sheet lined with foil, and pop them in the oven to rewarm/hopefully re-crisp as you warm up the soup. Or they can do that, too.
Or, if you are staying a bit, preassemble the grilled cheese but do not cook. Wrap in wax or parchment paper. Cook at her place.

I would ask a place like panera for an extra carboard sandwich box with holes so they can breathe.

My DS used to like to take grilled cheese for school lunch. The only way he liked them, was wrapped in paper towels so they didn't get soggy. They didn't stay warm, but maybe try paper towels and then foil over them? Or how about heat up a (dry) crockpot and transport the paper towel wrapped sandwiches in that?

If you can't prep and then cook at her place this is what I recommend. We get a lot of heated sandwiches to go and they are soggy when we get home if we don't wrap them in a napkin before we leave the restaurant. Side note: have you ever put mayo inside your grilled cheese sandwiches? So good!

Thanks for the ideas. I think given how much I can prep them at home and how little time it would take, I'd feel comfortable finishing it at their house. She's a pretty laid back person in normal circumstances so I don't think it would bother her to have me in her kitchen 10 minutes.

If I were chemo sick, my kitchen would probably be a disaster and I'd have to do a lot of cleaning to get it ready for you, which defeats the purpose of the meal. Just ask her preference. She may prefer warm and slightly soggy sandwiches at the front door than hot and fresh in her home.
